Well that was quick.I absolutely loved this one. Fun, hilarious, well written. And yes, that POV and everything about it is wonderful.
The cover is great. But what color is "spilled whale oil before a match is struck?" I'm not a huge fan of random metaphorical descriptions, esp. in short stories. But that's just a small nit, the only one I see to pick. Mostly the story is enchanting. Thank you for posting.
Well, well, I normally never look at Goodreads recommendation part of my screen, but it is now showing this The Cat Who Walked a Thousand Miles, a short story by Kij Johnson. Usually GR recs are very random, but this time it might hit the spot.

We'll be reading this novelette throughout February. Post comments and use spoiler tags when necessary.
I read a story from her once: The War of Light and Shadow, in Five Dishes, which I quite liked.
