Welcome to a new team challenge!

For this challenge we will be spelling out scripture verses using the title/author of books we read.

How this works: you can use either the first letter of each word in the title and the first letter of the author's first/middle/last names to "fill" letters for the verse your team has OR you can use the entire word found in the book's title or name to complete an entire word in the verse.

Let's say you read Breach of Trust by Rachel Dylan. Your team is working on spelling out the verse Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) You could either use the letters O,T,R,D to fill those letters OR you could complete the entire word TRUST since that word is in the title.

-Subtitles count
-If using a full word, it doesn't have to be exactly the same (e.g. for "understanding" you could use a book with "understand" instead.

The list of verses we will be spelling out is posted below. Teams will randomly be assigned one and then, once they complete it, a new one will be given. Depending on how quickly teams go through them, I might add more.

Challenge will run for three months; begins February 6th and ends May 7th.

Points:
Teams receive 10 points for every verse completed.
For each book read for a verse, you will also earn one (1) point for every 100 pages. (e.g. if a book is 535 pages, you would get 5 points for that book).

RULES

*Page Count: Unless the category you are completing gives a specific page count, there is NOT a minimum page count for this challenge.
*Format: You can read any format you like (eBook, audiobook, print, etc).
*Genre: You can read any genre you like (picture books, poetry books, manga, travel books, fiction, nonfiction... anything goes!).
*Read Dates: You can use books you've started reading at any time, however you must finish the books on or after the challenge/holiday segment start date and you will only get credit for the amount of pages read during that time (e.g. if a book is 450 pages, but you read 80 pages prior to the segment starting, you would only get 3 points for the 370 pages you read).
*Rereads: Rereads are allowed for this challenge.

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I’m in and would like to be on Hannah’s team, if possible. I read 6-15 books per month, I think. It fluctuates, really.

Question: on the title word option, are we allowed to use more than one word per title (for example: TRUST and OF from the same title)? And do subtitle words also count for either option?

message 9: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Also, are the book/numbers included in what is required for spelling out? (Example: Luke 2:12)

Subtitles count, but only one full word from a book. It doesn't need to be exactly the same, though. (e.g. for "understanding" you could use a book with "understand" instead.)

Angie Thompson (angiethompson) | 338 comments Wow, this looks really challenging! I'm in! I read about 25-30 books a month.

Also, just to make sure I'm reading the rules right, am I correct that we can read books of any length, but anything under 100 pages will only count toward spelling out the verse, not toward the page points?

message 18: by Angie (new)

Angie Thompson (angiethompson) | 338 comments Also, I have some large ebook collections that I bought as omnibus volumes (e.g. The Complete Works of Jules Verne) but that I've shelved as separate books on Goodreads. Am I allowed to count each of those books individually, or would they only count if I finished the full omnibus? o.o

message 19: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 1386 comments I’m in - current monthly reading is 2-6 books.

Angie, yes - books of any length work. Also, individual books are fine, so long as they have their own page on goodreads or Amazon. I'll need somewhere to see page count. :)

Example:
Dutch Girl: Audrey Hepburn and World War II by Robert Matzen
Letters: D, G, A, H, A, W, W, R, M

Just in case it wasn't clear in the rules (and looking it over I don't think it is), when using a book for letters, it'll fill in all of those letters in the puzzle. So if your puzzle has 4 T's and you read a book with one of the letters it works for being T, it can work for all of the T's.
