Moneyball by Michael Lewis
Rating: 5 stars

The first is "The Cosmic Puppets" by Philip K. Dick in my goal to read and some cases all of PDK's novels in the order they were written, not published. This book was published in 1957 but was one the first couple of novels he wrote in 1953.

Sorry, I seem to have forgotten how to paste the actual link here.
It is a little different from other early novels I had read by him. There is a much bigger element of horror and fantasy than usual. I gave it 4 stars.
The second is "High Sierra" by W.R. Burnett from 1940. This is an excellent hard-boiled gangster novel that became a very good movie starring Humphrey Bogart. I gave it 4 stars.

The third is "The Empty Trap" by John D. MacDonald from 1957. this is another excellent stand alone mystery story written by MacDonald in the 1950's before he developed his long running Travis McGee character. it is a classic example of roman noir. I gave it 4 stars.

The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson
The Dutch House by Ann Patchett
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (classic!)
I loved all of these.

I'm a big fan of PKD but I haven't read that one yet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have read other books by Burnett and MacDonald but not High Sierra or The Empty Trap. I'll have to look around for those.

3.The Pawnbroker
4.A Long Petal of the Ocean by Isabel Allende
5.The Pearl Sister by Lucinda Riley

1. The monk who sold his Ferrari: A fable about fulfilling your dreams and reach your destiny - Robin Sharma
I loved it and it is definitely the most influential read for me this year. This book I will reread again and again and again.
2. Crisis in the red zone: The story of the deadliest ebola outbreak in history, and of outbreaks to come - Richard Preston
It reads like a horror book but it certainly is NOT fiction, it is reality. Such a scary wake up call.
3. A life on our planet: My witness statement and vision for the future - David Attaborough
4. Great expectations - Charles Dickens
I have to admit that his books are a slow read. But WOW, What a fantastic writing. I seriously question myself why on earth I have not read Dickens before.
I am reading David Copperfield now and love it as much as I loved Great expectations.
5. The war of the end of the world - Marip Vargas Llosa
An other slow read but absolutely worth it.
