How's everyone doing? These have truly been unprecedented months in the world, and I am finding myself really distracted, and it has been difficult to focus on my reading. Instead, I keep checking the news, reading everything I can on the protests, the voting issues (I knew that my polling place would be closed for now, so I had to vote by mail) and COVID.

I've put a timer on my Instagram (what I thought to be my only social media) but I see stuff on here as well as a coloring app I use. Ironically, the coloring is supposed to be relaxing but now I just find it stressful. It's really difficult (especially being a reader) not to look at the comments, or read an article, etc. I've recently deleted some people I follow, not because of what they post but because they are posting CONSTANTLY. It's overload and it's too much for me.
I'm trying to focus more on doing a breathing meditation, a daily walk and listening to fun audiobooks. It seems to help over trying to read an actual book. Normally I'm mad at myself if I'm not reading, just listening, but we are in crazy times and if an audiobook is going to help me keep my sanity and entertain/distract me, that's what I'm going to do!
I hope everyone is well and things are going good!

Instead, I keep checking ..."I'm really having a hard time coping with just about everything! I'm afraid to even walk out the door. So I'm staying busy - cleaning (yuk), baking, watching TV, reading. Even though I'm reading more than usual I'm not reading as many books. I've gone through my TBR list and the books I've picked are over 400 pages. I usually read shorter books. So I'm even getting stressed over not reading as many books as usual. But other than driving myself crazy, I'm good.
Honestly, I'm scared of what the new normal will look like.

It has been ages since I really looked at my Facebook/Twitter feed and I went out of Instagram, too much stuff indeed. I am using the internet mainly for booktube and Goodreads. And I consider Audiobooks as reading too.
Jo-Anne, I am with you. This seems to be never ending, I too wonder what the new normal will be. Leticia, I need to stop looking at social media. I really started watching the news feeds when the protests began, and trying to keep up with the issues. I think need to back off, and limit my time.
Hi Everyone, we have about 1 week left in the June read-a-thon. So, I was wondering. Is there a book that you read this month that disappointed you, or really didn't like?
Must admit to not reading papers, or social media, or watching the news at all. I never used to, and that isn’t going to change, I told someone I chatted with and they blocked me. my friend has anxiety so I’m just trying to help her through it all.I’m reading more than usual. I tend to give up on books that disappoint me I guess the most disappointing thing with one of my books was the ending, it was a slow burn then just rushed the romance. It was not realistic and it was a shame as I really enjoyed it otherwise
I started reading Virgin River (Virgin River #1) by Robyn Carr but got about a quarter of the way in and just stopped. I really like her books so I was surprised I didn't like this one. All there was up to that point was the set-up of the characters and town. I must admit, it's an old book and the first in the series but nothing happened!I'm pretty anxious right now and not very tolerant so I don't have the patience for books that can't hold my attention. I'm reading a lot and want to be transported in that world. If a book can't do that for me, it's a DNF.
Karen wrote: "Hi Everyone, we have about 1 week left in the June read-a-thon. So, I was wondering. Is there a book that you read this month that disappointed you, or really didn't like?"The one I'm reading now (The Dark Days Club) is a let down so far. Nothing freaking happens. You know 2nd book syndrome? But imagine it happening on Book 1!!!!
Unless the ending is spectacular, I don't think I'll continue with the series.
Karen wrote: "Hi Everyone, we have about 1 week left in the June read-a-thon. So, I was wondering. Is there a book that you read this month that disappointed you, or really didn't like?"I started House of Leaves this month and just couldnt get into it, so I put it down. I had heard lots of good things about it and I was super excited about it and it just didnt live up to what I expected it to be.
I had a disappointing experience with Artemis Fowl. I just didn't like Artemis. I don't know if it's as Jo-Anne said, about impatience with books that don't grab my attention right now, I don't know. I can be a mood reader. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for the book. I was hoping to love the book, and want to see the movie, oh well, that's not going to happen.
I haven't been able to get into Positively Unstoppable: The Art of Owning It, which is a disappointment. This book came so highly recommended and I'm dragging. And I'm not even that far into it!Karen, my husband and I just watched the trailer for Artemis Fowl and were debating on watching it.
Karen wrote: "Maybe I will watch the Artemis Fowl movie. I might just be in the mood for the movie."It's definitely all about being in the mood.
Sometimes I just want to watch a movie instead of reading the book.
Sometimes, meaning a lot, I tell my husband I don't want to sit for a two hour movie and then wind up watching 5 hours of a tv series.
Karen wrote: "Maybe I will watch the Artemis Fowl movie. I might just be in the mood for the movie."I watched it last weekend! I was expecting a bomb of a movie, with only a ghost of the original story in it (which I haven't read, to be honest).
And even though I was expecting crap, I was still disappointed by it. It's that bad!
I had heard that it wasn't good. Thanks Vivian, I won't even bother then. I always watch movies with a feeling of, I'd rather be reading.
Thanks Vivian for the heads up! I think I will wait for Hamilton to watch something. Leane, I struggle with movies on Netflix, I end up taking 3 or 4 sessions to watch an entire movie. I hate wasting my time, when I could be reading!
I think I'm going to skip Artemis Fowl too. We weren't dying to watch it, it was more like, are we really on keeping Disney + for Mandalorian?I like Netflix. I don't watch a lot of tv at all but when I do, I like to binge watch. I don't like waiting each week for a show to come out.
Which shows do you like there? I am a bit difficult on tv showns since I mostly like sci-fi and it should not have too much violence too.

I read Artemis Fowl and it wasn't bad, only that I rarely read a middle grade series, so I didn't go on with the series. Is it bad because they made the story too much for younger children or is just badly done?
Leticia wrote: "Which shows do you like there? I am a bit difficult on tv showns since I mostly like sci-fi and it should not have too much violence too."LOL. I cannot recommend anything because I like violence in my shows.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of Netflix either. Mainly because I don't watch TV. I do know people that love it because they can watch entire seasons of a series. What I've been doing with Netflix is enroll, watch a few things then cancel, because I can go for several months and not really use it. Then I hear about something that sounds interesting, and I'll enroll again, just for that.

We don't need that! Let's just make this fun... for the kids! Like a treasure hunt... but with magic!" and they just went with that.
To call it a hot mess just doesn't convey how boring and senseless this movie was! It's just a series of boring cliches used in the most brain-dead way possible.
I haven't read the book, but my heart goes out to the fans of this series!
With our Netflix movies we are going to use the app spin wheel and it helps with choosing as it decides for u
I'm kind of annoyed with myself that I haven't been reading as much as I want. Too much playing on a poker app and not enough turning on an audiobook! :)
Leane wrote: "I'm kind of annoyed with myself that I haven't been reading as much as I want. I read for 15 minutes, but then I find I want to do something else. I'm reading, but I am not sure how much I am absorbing.
