Book Synopsis:
FBI agent Lily Yu is in North Carolina with her lover and mate, Rule Turner, Lu Nuncio of the Nokolai werewolf clan. He is there to take custody of his son from the boy's grandmother. It's a purely personal trip until Rule, in wolf form, finds three bodies in a shallow grave. They carry the stench of death magic, which makes the murders a federal crime. Lily takes charge of the investigation and soon realizes that nothing adds up- not the motives or the main suspect, who is behind bars when death strikes again.

But murder, however bizarre, is an everyday affair for Lily, who was a homicide cop before being recruited into the FBI's Magical Crimes Division. A more personal shock arrives in the form of Rule's son's mother. Why would she now challenge Rule's plan to bring his son to live among the Nokolai? But family matters must take a backseat when the violence escalates, and there's no rhyme or reason for the next strike- by a killer who may not even be of this world.

I read book 4 about 2-3 years ago, I wonder if I'll remember enough to make sense of this book??? It's one of those series that just fell off my radar, but now that it's back I want to read it...decisions, decisions!

I'm a little behind this week, but I'm sticking my nose in my Nook as we speak! I'm trying to finish Son of the Shadows and then I'll go back and forth between The Winter Sea with Mortal Sins. I figured if I alternated it would keep me from blazing through the BR's. LOL!

So, I could easily wait a day to start. I hope this book keeps the momentum going like the last one. It was really good!

I loved the last line of Chapter 3 where Deacon tells Lily she "...raced here to feel him up." Bwahaha! Kinda scary that Rule was coated with Death Magic though. (hide spoiler)]

I'm thinking of the old man's reaction when Rule attacked and what he said was odd, too. "I didn't know!" What? That he was a wolf? Was it the man or the death magic speaking?

I'm a little freaked that the five ghosts visiting Talia are the recent victims. Loved how Lily handled the kids at the treehouse! She seems to be having a lot of maternal moments and feelings in this book. (hide spoiler)]

Cullen has really grown on me and he's a critical piece of the evil fighting team!

I'm finished and have to say that this was better than I expected. It explained a few things that happened in Blood Lines with the Leidolf clan and the mantels. The ending was totally unexpected. It's fun when that happens! (view spoiler)[I still want more Grandmother and the Dragons. I want to know what Toby's gift is and I kinda missed Gan's comic relief. Guess I'll have to keep on reading the series! LOL! (hide spoiler)]

Sure! I'm almost done with this one. I'm leaving for the holidays on Saturday and I don't think I'll get a ton of reading done while gone. Would it be ok with you guys to do the next book maybe the first week of Jan?

I finished this up now. I ended up liking it. :)

(view spoiler)[I definitely agree that I'd like to see more Li Lei/dragon interaction and also more Gan. She is amusing. I'd also like to see if Ruben starts to spend more time in Edge away from the modern metals.

The ending was great. It will be interesting to see how Isen reacts to all that's happened in DC. (hide spoiler)]
