This book was possibly published 80s/90s. The girl is helping an invalid I think, reading wuthering heights to her. And there is a mystery about a hiker who went missing. It's a suspense/thriller YA novel.

More things I remember:The handicapped girl was mute because she had been in an accident.
There was a hiker or backpacker whose body is found in the woods and in the end, the killer ends up being the boyfriend of the mute girl.
I found it! It was in my bookcase this whole time! All it took was moving and having to sort through the 6 bookcases that I have.::facepalm:: And it was Jane Eyre not Wuthering Heights. Dear lord...
