Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments So not a step into the complete unknown if you've been here before. One of my best friends lives in Manchester so we try to get up there a couple of times a year
Fingers crossed the recruiters find you a job somewhere you want to go (though in my experience everywhere is short staffed so hopefully it'll be easy...)

Sorry, I am not able to get my head around the Mini challenge. I read the recipe, but what next? How do we score point on this recipe?

message 1003: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments For the mini, there are three parts:

1. Spell-out
We're almost done with this part and picking books as they come in to fit it.

2. Words in the recipe/text
You look for words in the recipe that might also be found in your book's text or in the book's title. Or maybe the word in the recipe is something on your book's cover.

3. Teatime story
Using 15 book titles, we write a story about our tea time party.

The idea is to bake the recipe and to prepare tea time and then narrate the tea time story to the team whose recipe we've baked.

Kate (kaaate) | 78 comments Hi All,

Long time no speak! Sorry I've been so quiet - it's been a rough couple of weeks at home. I don't think I'll be much help in the UNO challenge unfortunately due to home circumstances, which I'm sure you'll understand. I did manage to listen to an audiobook and read a book at the beginning of the month so I thought while I've got a free minute I'll add and try and help the team - if I'm lucky enough to read enough book before end of April ofcourse I'll try and add it. Hope everyone is staying safe and giving those they live with extra tight cuddles!

message 1018: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 1392 comments Cosmic Affogoto invites Galactic Creme Brulee to a tea party and a wonderful story about our team's latest quest to save they day!

One awesome day, a human named Alice strode into C.A.’s head office and demanded help in solving a mystery. She swore the DODOs on Planetfall had stolen her top-secret recipe for Galactic Crème Brulee. This is no ordinary recipe mind you. After eating a ramekin of this lovely dessert, one is game for all kinds of inappropriate activities.

Well, the C.A. powers decided, it's best to hightail it to Planetfall to see what in the world is going down. Jenny charged towards the mind capsule and exclaimed to the C.A. Keepers, “Best to plan for the worst, and get Batman and Nightwalker to tag along if we can. If we do not take this one, the DODOs may double down, and our recipe will likely be next.”

Nightwalker agreed as his goal was to get his hands on the recipe for himself and Batman went along with it because he wanted his hands-on Alice.

After enduring a voyage that was one rise and fall after another, the ship landed just north of upside down. Everyone disembarked, falling like an avalanche in the Rocky Mountains!

Jenny started barking out orders, “Let’s get this mystery solved! Keri you make sure Batman and Alice behave. Michael you are responsible for DODO patrol…get Tammie and Carrie to help you. Zoe, you and Harmony make sure the ship is ready for DODO prisoners if we must cart any of those Neanderthals home with us! Laura, Nightwalker, you are with me…let’s find that special recipe. If we are not back by sundown, please send out a search party.

“Well what do we have here,” Laura whispers. “Looks like we’ve come across DODOs trying to sell the recipe to those lying ODOs. You don’t suppose they are telling the truth to those game playing Neanderthals do you?”

“On three, 1-2-3, hands up you thieving DODOs! Nightwalker read them their rights.”

As eloquent as ever, Nightwalker complied, “DODOs, you have the right to a last wish. It must be agreed to by sundown providing you hand over Alice’s secret recipe pronto.”
The DODOs thought it over carefully, “all we ask is that if we can’t have the delicious Galactic Crème Brulee recipe, then all we really want is some of that awesome Cosmic Affogoto. To go if possible.”

Well our journey has come to an end. A toast to our UNO Pixies for a great challenge!

message 1038: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Hello friends at Team Galactic Creme Brulee. We at Team Void Tartlet would like to thank you for your galactic creme brulee recipe and share with you a story of our tea party!

It was a miserable, hot summer morning when the group of fairies gathered at the shore to hear the story of their friend, the astronaut, and his trip to outer space. Their friend had left on an extravagant adventure nearly a hundred days ago and promised to regale them with tales of his adventures upon his return. He said he would meet them at first light, but the sun continued to rise without any sign of him. The Blue Fairy, always in a temper and bored by the quiet morning, huffed, "How dare he keep us waiting?"

"Oh, calm down," the Pink Fairy replied. "You know how mortals are. Their sense of time is not as acute as ours."

The Blue Fairy folded her arms across her body in reply.

"I think it's wonderful that he even is willing to share his stories with us at all," chimed in the Green Fairy, who stood up and began to dance daintily around their tea table. "And he promised to bring us the most delectable desserts from his travels! How lucky we are!"

"I am getting rather hungry," replied the Purple Fairy. "I do wish he would get here with breakfast already."

Just then, a shadow loomed over the four fairies. They looked up to see the astronaut heading toward them, a tray in his hand.

"Oh, he's here!" the Green Fairy exclaimed, and she spilled over a glass of water in her excitement.

The Blue Fairy sighed again. "It certainly took you long enough."

"Don't be cross," the astronaut replied, "for I have the most wonderful stories to tell you. But first, we eat."

He set down the tray of Galactic Creme Brulee desserts, and the four fairies each grabbed one. They spooned pieces into their mouths and looked up expectantly.

"Well?" they asked together.

The astronaut looked at each of them separately, then leaned in toward them so they could hear better. "Let me start from the beginning."

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Tea Time Story - from Galactic Crème Brûlée for Science Brioche

This month, Team Galactic Crème Brûlée have not actually participated in a quest but they have been told the most marvellous story at an afternoon tea the team had been attending.

Wanting to share this story, we have decided to try out a new recipe for tea time snacks, created by Team Science Brioche, and we therefore invite all the members of Team Science Brioche to attend our lovely afternoon tea so that we can tell you this wonderful story.

While the Duke was sleeping, the Duchess - a good friend of the team and the one who told us this story - decided she was no longer tired and certainly not up or lying in bed doing nothing. She therefore decided to venture out into their very large gardens, despite their sometimes somewhat threatening shadows in her eyes, to go for a bit of a stroll. And maybe a little adventure, who knows?

What she did not know however was that her wish was going to come true because on this very night, their gardens had become the grounds of an incredible test of wills. Or was that more a ridiculous feat of strength?

Several people were gathered in what seemed to be an area cleared of benches and potted plants to create free space to conduct nothing less than a duel! Now, the Duchess was usually a very dignified person but she was now intrigued and wondered what kind of rich people problems these guys all had - because they had to be rich, judging from that clothes they wore.

Edging closer, she unobtrusively settled herself on one of the benches the nightly visitors had considerately moved into her path, and began to observe the proceedings. Their words weren't very clear but when one of them suddenly started shouting and the Duchess heard something along the lines of: "If I had your face, I would exile myself so as not to subject others to it!" she figured it just had to be a dramatic development between suitors - probably of one of the lovely young women standing on the sidelines, oohing and gasping when appropriate.

It brought back memories of her own, of times before her engagement to her husband, the Duke. It had not always been smooth sailing. Rather, his courting had more resembled chaos than anything else but it had made him extremely endearing to her, even if her mother had certainly not thought so. There was this one memory in particular when they had been unchaperoned and.... well this is not the time for such stories and in all honesty, it was a story she had never told anyone. It was too precious and certainly not one for afternoon tea... There would be far too much gasping and clutching of pearls involved if she did.

All the while the drama in the garden had been unfolding and her heart was beating fast by the time the men were done hurling insults and were actually proceeding to do the deed. They drew pistols from their waistbands.

And just as it was about to get interesting, the Duke stepped onto the lawn. Everyone froze as he looked them over and then turned his head to raise an eyebrow at the Duchess who was merely shrugging and grinning at him.

"What a coincidence..." he muttered though there was an amused glint in his eye. Turning to the uninvited guests, he sighed: "What did you think this was going to achieve? Have you any idea of the consequences this would ensue? The potential casualties?" Shaking his head at the sheepish looking young men who were putting away their pistols much to the relief of their female companions, he told them to go home.

"So it wasn't a lover's splat or a suitor trying to take out the other?" the Duchess asked her husband as they supervised the young men putting everything back into place before disappearing out of their vast gardens with their retinue.
"You read too many romance novels," he accused her with a laugh.
