Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments COMPLETION POST

Straight On Till Morning by Liz Braswell

It's been such an amazing reading month! I've picked up so many 4 and 5star books. I'm rating this one a 4.5 stars.

Annnnd I've finished my commitments with 5 days to go! I'm going to try to finish the audiobook of Children of Blood and Bone but don't want to commit to it just in case. No telling from day to day what work will bring right now.

This was a good "escape" book if that's what you are needing right now. It's a Peter Pan retelling. I was afraid it would read too juvenile but surprisingly didn't. It read much faster than a typical 500 page book too. I essentially read it in three sittings.

But anyway, here are the cards:

Mini challenge: ship on the cover

0: Stand alone
2: character: Tinker Bell
3: character: Hook
6: title: Straight on Till Morning
9: place: Neverland
Skip: character: Peter Pan

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Escape books are definitely good at the moment. Glad you've had an awesome reading month.

We're happy with whatever everyone can read this month. I don't think we'll finish the cards (unless there's a massive influx of books in the next 5 days), but that's really understandable given the situation in the world at the moment.

Hope everyone is okay and staying as safe as possible.

Is it safe for you to go out to do the shopping considering you do have an illness as well?

Either way, be careful! And if you don't have a mask, a scarf is your very best friend!! :-) That's how I do it - I dress up as a gangster with either a scarf or a bandana wrapped around my face when I go shopping haha.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments And hooray for more books!

Let's try and rock this as much as we can even though it is a crappy situation all around and we only have a few more days to go before the end of the month!

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ah that sucks... any volunteers in the area by any chance?

We have scouts and the like running errands for people who cannot or should not go out. But we actually have a whole system set in place via municipalities as well to take care of bills etc etc.

Glad to hear you are feeling better today. Hope your trip out food shopping is successful.

Must be so hard being so far from your family. Having said that, mine are all 30mins drive away but we can't see any of them until the restrictions are lifted. Really hope your nephew stays well - 12 weeks is a long time inside for children.

Being in more than normal has bumped up my reading numbers. Don't think it'll stay this high next month but I'll see what I can do.

message 824: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments The volunteer system here is just being set up as well as the idea that supermarkets will prioritize vulnerable people. It's not working v well at the moment - my sister is on a medication which means she can't go out for 12 weeks and the supermarkets aren't putting her on the priority list

message 825: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Eurgh, that sucks :-/

Hearing the "horror" stories all over from unorganised people makes me so, so glad that our government was on the ball and that people are rallying to help each other out - then again, we're also a week or two ahead of the UK in terms of infections and peak etc etc.

message 826: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments Just realized I might be reading something with stars on the cover by complete accident haha. What do you guys think? It’s a children of blood and bones. I believe they are stars as they are on a black background but they also kind of just look like tiny dots. Does it count? I’m doing my very best to finish it! I work the next two nights in a busy ER (A&E) so won’t get much done. I’ve been listening to the audiobook so can at least do on the commute!

message 827: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I've just picked up something that definitely has stars on the cover, so don't worry if you don't get through it Kayla. Work and rest are likely to take priority and we get that.

I'd say they are stars if you do get time.

message 829: by Eldarwen (last edited Mar 28, 2020 02:12AM) (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Good morning!

So I did a little counting and it looks like we need 24 more books to finish up ALL the hands for March.

A lot, isn't it?

But I can't help but think.... can we challenge ourselves this weekend and get as many books in as possible??

Since most of us are stuck at home anyway... how about a little read-a-thon for us this weekend, with a potential extension to the end of March, ie Tuesday evening? See how much we can get done? Maybe challenge ourselves to a specific goal?

Are you with me? ;-)

Personally, I want to read Disarm today, Disavow tomorrow and hopefully also finish Thursdays at Coconuts either somewhere in between or latest on Monday. And then... I'm not sure yet but I would love to be able to try and fit in another (short) book on Tuesday. So basically, a book a day for me as I am not the speediest of readers.

How about it?

Do you accept the challenge?? :-)

message 830: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments My goal is to finish Children of Blood and Bone. I seem to like to choose 500+ page books these days... so it’s a doozy 😂 I’m also halfway through A Day In December. I will read as much as I can but I am a nightshift nurse tonight and tomorrow. I could count Sunday and Monday as my weekend and read-a-thon then, though :)

message 831: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Fingers crossed the nights won't be too exhausting! But yes, choose your weekend as you wish!! :-)

How are you liking Children of Blood and Bone?

message 832: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I'm in, will do what I can round childcare! Monday and Tuesday are going to be v limited as I'll be back at work seeing patients and trying to get to grips with all the changes in the last couple of weeks.

message 833: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hmm, yes, that is probably going to be quite challenging and exhausting! Lots of changes! And there may be more coming before you're even going in to work.

message 834: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Blackburn | 32 comments It seems our changes have come by the minute lately.

I am really enjoying it. Needed a fantasy to escape all this :) I’ve read so many mixed reviews about the writing style — however I’m listening to the audiobook and it’s so well narrated.

message 835: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments The plan is to meet up with someone who's been there first thing Monday before I start (at 8am) and find out what we're doing! Suspect it'll have changed again by Tuesday...

Glad the fantasy escape is going well. Love a good audio!

message 836: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments And that's why I love fantasy. Such a wonderful way to escape and enjoy exploring a different world!
