Still reading - Medallion Status: True Stories from Secret Rooms and an ARC for The Kingdom of Liars and listening to The Killing Light though since we're not going anywhere this is mostly a listen while I shower read scurry out for groceries now and then :) Not to mention A Time of Courage just came out. Shame I have to home school my kids and work from home when I have to much to read :)

Ok so I have trouble keeping up with all the made-up names, I don't think we encountered that one already ? Forget it, going back to chapter 5, the escherii seems to be the thing that slaughtered everyone except Asha at the school. I am intrigued ! (hide spoiler)]

Just started this today, also after just finishing The Great Hunt (WoT #2). Choko, did you notice the map here? This world also has an Aryth Ocean and a Sea of Storms, just like the WoT world. Intentional homage?

I've read through the first five chapters and wow, (view spoiler)[slaughtering a whole school full of kids is (hide spoiler)] an intense beginning. (view spoiler)[I'm with Elizabeth in thinking that Wirr is a prince or someone with noble blood. I'm not sure if Elder Ilseth was responsible for the slaughter...'cuz why was he and the other two Elders in Wirr's room specifically? Was Wirr the boy he had come for and not Davian? Ilseth was talking about coming for the boy with Talean, the Administrator, but when Talean was speaking with Davian he didn't act like he thought he'd be leaving with Ilseth. Questions, questions. And poor Ashe! (hide spoiler)]

V, I think it is intentional homage, because the names are, despite of spelling different, very similar in pronunciation. Particularly the names of the countries and towns. Not only, a ton of other things too... The Shadows = stilled/gentled, the Leashed, the shackle is more like the collar from Sword of Truth, but you catch my drift...

I am up to Ch. 15... This is totally up my alley◉‿◉. It just feels really weird reading it while reading WoT. I was shocked at Ch. 5, but once you figure the way the author thinks, he is pretty deliberate in his storytelling. Liking it a lot so far◉‿◉

So I started and so far i like it. An interesting start and I'm interesting to learn fully about this magic and how the rest of the world looks. The writing style is really simple though so I feel like it's going to be a quick read.

I didn't think about the WoT similarities. It's been a number of years since I read WoT though, and I've forgotten a lot.

It's really only the names of the two oceans that I've noticed, same spellings. As far as I can tell, the rest of the countries have different names. Sea of Storms could be pretty common but the Aryth Ocean, with the same spelling, seemed like maybe it was an intentional fanwink.

Through chapter 20...(view spoiler)[I'm glad that Davian now knows Wirr's secret and understood. I was expecting there to be the usual "you've lied to me for years! How can I ever trust you again??" drama so very glad that we avoided that.

Now I know who the female figure on the front cover is supposed to be. :-)

Wirr and D. are cool, but I am not sure at all about the amnesia chap. I am up to Ch 21 and the more I think about it, the more I think he must have been (view spoiler)[ a bad dude who somehow lost his memory and now is a clean slate, given a chance to become a good dude...

I wonder if the girl with the Whisper blade is going to show again. Why give her a named blade if she would be only a one show character... (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm not sure I like the addition of Dezia and Aelric. It seems like too many people now for this supposedly stealthy trip back to Andarra. Plus, it seems like a contrived way to get the obligatory female love interest in there for one of the boys (Wirr). I like her, but she has yet to prove her usefulness to the plot yet. The jury is still out for me on those two joining the group.
