Linda wrote: "That happened with One Day by David Nicholls, I was ready to bin it but it suddenly got better so it got 3 instead of 2. Do you read poetry? I've read some excellent books this year. I just looked ..."

I've never really been able to get on with poetry - every time I try to read it my brain starts to wander!
'Harry August' isn't creepy at all - confusing sometimes but a good story. A bit like (a not funny) 'Groundhog Day' except instead of reliving the same day he relives his whole life over and over. I think I'd find that exhausting!

Female author N - Claire North - The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August - The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North

Actually more like 3.5 stars but I've rounded up. Really interesting concept, but occasionally a bit slow in places. The jumping around between the various lives from chapter to chapter sometimes confused me when I picked the book back up after a break. I enjoyed the story though.

Female author J - Mara Jacobs - In Too Deep - In Too Deep (Roommates Trilogy, #1) by Mara Jacobs

Kindle freebie 'New Adult Romance' read for another challenge. Not really my cup of tea.

message 154: by [deleted user] (new)

Female author F - Angie Fox - The Accidental Demon Slayer - The Accidental Demon Slayer (Demon Slayer, #1) by Angie Fox

Kindle freebie paranormal chick-lit. It was OK.

message 155: by [deleted user] (new)

Female author E - Hattie Holden Edmonds - Cinema Lumière - Cinema Lumière by Hattie Holden Edmonds

A kindle freebie that I actually liked. It's a miracle! :)

message 156: by [deleted user] (new)

First names O - Oscar de Muriel - The Strings of Murder - The Strings of Murder by Oscar de Muriel .

Really enjoyed this historical murder mystery. Liked the insulting banter between the two detectives.

Just F left to get on my first names list.

message 157: by [deleted user] (new)

New author N - Jandy Nelson - The Sky Is Everywhere - The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

Really enjoyed this YA kindle freebie about a teenage girl dealing with her grief after her sister's sudden death.

message 158: by [deleted user] (new)

Male author N - Jonathan Nasaw - The Girls He Adored - The Girls He Adored by Jonathan Nasaw

Creepy thriller involving a serial killer with multiple personalities. Scary.

message 159: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 09, 2015 09:20AM) (new)

Male author E - Cary Elwes - As You Wish Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride by Cary Elwes - As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride

A book about the making of my favourite film? Obviously I loved it.

Oooh! That looks like one for me!

message 161: by [deleted user] (new)

Kate (Trojanhorse) wrote: "Oooh! That looks like one for me!"

If you're a fan of 'The Princess Bride' I highly recommend it. No scandalous revelations, just a really nice story of how much fun the cast and crew had making the film. It made me want to watch the film again (for about the 100th time!)

message 162: by [deleted user] (new)

Female author Q - Sophie Quinn - Diary of a Size 12 - Diary of a Size 12 by Sophie Quinn

Kindle freebie. Seriously bad chick-lit. I can cope with stupidly 'quirky' characters and an unbelievable plot but I can't deal with illiteracy. Awful. Only finished it to get the Q.

message 163: by Kate, Moderator (new)

Kate | 1636 comments Mod
I'm a huge fan of The Princess Bride! I've added it to my To Read list.
Well done on getting Q. I've felt compelled to finish a few dreadful books just to get me a letter or a Country!!

message 164: by [deleted user] (new)

Kate (Trojanhorse) wrote: "Well done on getting Q. I've felt compelled to finish a few dreadful books just to get me a letter or a Country!!"

The worst thing is when you finish a terrible book thinking it will get you a country and it turns out that not enough of it was set there to count! That's happened to me a couple of times.

message 165: by [deleted user] (new)

First names F - Fiona Gibson - Mum on the Run - Mum on the Run by Fiona Gibson .

Fun 'grown-up' chick-lit (by 'grown-up' I mean dealing with husbands and kids rather than careers and boyfriends). An easy read. And it filled in the last gap on my first names list!

Congratulations Caroline! I think I have about five more to go before I complete my female authors A-Z...

message 171: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks everyone. Not far to go on my other A-Z lists now. I've got about 10 books left to complete them all. I'm thinking next year I might steer clear of any A-Zs!

Male authors Z - Christopher Zenos - Autumn in Carthage - Autumn in Carthage by Christopher Zenos

Not sure about this one. A weird mix of romance and time travel. But it got me a Z and Wisconsin for USA states.

message 172: by [deleted user] (new)

Titles Q - The Queen Gene - Jennifer Coburn The Queen Gene by Jennifer Coburn

Quick, easy read. That's the best thing I can say about it.

Only X to go for titles and I've got the latest Sue Grafton on hold at the library for that.

message 173: by [deleted user] (new)

Another category finished. Titles X - X - Sue Grafton - X (Kinsey Millhone, #24) by Sue Grafton

I think this is the first of this series that I've rated less than 4 stars. Disappointing.

Congratulations!!! Certainly a lot of Agatha Christie, you nearly used her for the whole alphabet!!

Kate (Trojanhorse) wrote: "Congratulations!!! Certainly a lot of Agatha Christie, you nearly used her for the whole alphabet!!"

I know! I've been trying to read all her books this year as well as doing these A-Z's so it made sense to use them where I could.

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

Male author D - John Dolan - Everyone Burns - Everyone Burns (Time, Blood and Karma, #1) by John Dolan

Good but not great murder mystery set in Thailand.

message 178: by [deleted user] (new)

Female author V - Amy Vansant - Pineapple Lies - Pineapple Lies (Pineapple Port Mysteries, #1) by Amy Vansant

Another kindle freebie light-hearted 'cosy' mystery. It was ok, an undemanding read.

message 179: by [deleted user] (new)

New author Y - Pamela Samuels Young - Anybody's Daughter - Anybody's Daughter (Angela Evans #2) by Pamela Samuels Young

So-so crime thriller involving young girls forced into prostitution.

message 180: by [deleted user] (new)

Female author T - Chris Taylor - The Profiler The Profiler (The Munro Family #1) by Chris Taylor .

Kindle freebie romantic suspense. Too much romance, not enough serial killer.

message 181: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 31, 2015 10:16AM) (new)

Male author V - Tim Vicary - A Game of Proof A Game of Proof by Tim Vicary

Kindle freebie courtroom drama / legal thriller. Not bad but nothing special.

Linda wrote: "Congratulations on finishing another challenge, and I see you are nearly there with the others. What are you going to do when you are done? :)"

Thanks. I've got books lined up to fill in the gaps so I should have them all done by the end of the year. Not sure if I'll do any A-Z's next year, might have a rest from them! (I say that now - by Jan 1st I may well have changed my mind). Really need to concentrate on my Around the World and USA States challenges.

Is that them all done or are there more left to finish? Thought you were taking on the impossible to try them all in one year but you've managed it or nearly have. Much admiration and I think you deserve a rest from all those kindle freebies.

message 187: by Sue (new)

Sue | 1296 comments Well done!! What's for next year?

message 188: by [deleted user] (new)

Just got female Y and male Y to go. I have books lined up for both but as they are Christmas themed I refuse to look at them until at least December! As for next year I'm thinking I might keep it simple and just do the 'New to me authors' as it's a good way to expand my horizons. I'm also slightly tempted by Kate and Helen's one word titles so we'll have to see. Not sure about a rest from kindle freebies as I still have about 800 unread - I just can't resist a free book. Is there such a thing as kindle freebie rehab?

message 189: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 02, 2015 04:54AM) (new)

That's it. I'm done.
Finishing off with Male author Y - Patrick Yearly - A Lonely Dog on Christmas A Lonely Dog on Christmas by Patrick Yearly .

Kindle freebie. Festive short story from the point of view of the family bulldog. It was OK.

And finally Female author Y - Nicola Yeager - Christmas Without Holly Christmas Without Holly by Nicola Yeager

Another Kindle freebie. Not so festive short story/novella about a woman named Holly having a pre-Christmas break in a health spa. Also just OK.

I didn't actually realise when I put these on my list that they were quite so short but I'm counting them anyway as it's nearly the end of the year, I don't have time to look for something else and I think I've done enough! :)

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks all.

Linda - I've also started making a list for next year - I'm definitely not going to take on as many though. Just new authors and one word titles (Thanks to Kate for the inspiration!). Might struggle with X for titles but I've got it sorted for new authors. I have Aunt Bessie Assumes by Diana Xarissa on my kindle that I didn't get around to yet. It's a 'cosy mystery' though so not your thing I think :)
