Wow. Good one. Your version of "Silver Water Of Lake Champlain" is something I hadn't considered. That interpretation gives the story quite a different outlook. I thought it was a very Bradbury-like story, which was Hill's intention, until it took on dark tones near the end.

I read half the book and listened to the other half on audiobook. I think some of the narrators were fantastic, while others *cough-Joe Hill-cough*, did not make their stories enjoyable.

I've only read Something Wicked This Way Comes, but you are absolutely right. It was very Bradbury like. I need to read more Bradbury.

Really Liked Faun, I enjoyed Late Returns but did not find the ending satisfied me. All I care about is you was interesting, Thumbprint was thought provoking and finally The devil on the staircase was just plain weird !!! great scenic views though :-D

Finished Mums last night, that was also a great story.

(view spoiler)[I also liked the way his inner monologue became more frantic as the story went on and then became quiet and accepting at the end. That was classic Twilight Zone narration (hide spoiler)]
Just finished by the Silver Water of Lake Champlain, and found it to be haunting and wistful. It is definitely my favorite story so far.
I'm going to take a page from @Michael's book and focus on my interpretation. I never do that, thanks for the inspiration, @Michael!
(view spoiler)[ The rock only became a dinosaur for Gail when Joel saw it. None of the other kids saw the dinosaur, they all reacted like it was just a rock. Joel's father was abusive and he and Gail often played extreme games of pretend as a means of escape. Joel drowned that day, and in order to cope with the loss of her best friend, Gail made the game of pretend real.
I was also touched by the last line "the sound was down deep inside her, a long, wordless cry for things that weren't never going to happen." Because just like a double negative, it can have two meanings, the intended meaning and the literal meaning. She intended to mourn a life that she would never have with Joel, and she was literally stating that this terrible thing happened. No matter how you look at that statement, it's sobering and sad.
