About a queen who ruled the land with her servant like man by her side. Very similar to the relationship in Game of Thrones between Daenerys Targaryen and Jorah Mormont.

The queen had an army, I think it was large bees, bigger than humans.

She was on the cover of the book.

It is a series of 3 books I think.

Found it! “Daughter of the Empire” by Janie Wurts. Literally went through science fantasy authors and found it in the “W”s... of course at the end of the alphabet.
