Kristie | 5928 comments Time To Get Creative!!

For this challenge you create a story using the book titles for books that you want to read.

For the avid reader, you can choose to do this challenge monthly for all the books you are planning to read in a month.

Or, you can choose to create a story using the top books that you want to read throughout the year (maybe choose your top ten books, for example, whatever number works for you) and work them into a story.

After you create the story, you can list the books below and check them off as you go or just bold them within the story as you read them.

See posts 2 & 3 for further instructions and an example.

Kristie | 5928 comments Helpful hints

In order to add a link to the book, click the "add book/author" link on top of your comment box. Do a search for your book and click "add" next to the correct book. The link is automatically set to add the title of the book (as in my story below).

If you want to add covers as book links (some people add the covers to the bottom of their challenge / story as they complete the books instead of having a list.), you can change it after you click "add book/author". At the bottom of the little window that opens you just click on "cover" instead of "title".

Also, at the top of the comment box there is another link that says "(some html is ok)". If you click on that, it will explain how to add bold, italics, underline, spoiler tags, etc.

For anyone using an app instead of the online version, you will not be able to add book links. However, you can still participate.

You can copy and paste the following symbols, if you want to use them for your challenge. ✔ ✘ ✭ ❒

After you have created your challenge, you can edit it as you complete your books by clicking the "edit" on the bottom, right of your comment. That way you can update your challenge as you go. After you complete your challenge, you can start a new one if you choose to.

If you need more help, please let me know and I'll try to add more instructions as needed.

Kristie | 5928 comments This is an example of a story that I created for all the books I might plan to read in January. (Clearly, I am not an author, lol, so be kind!) If this were my story for the whole year, I would simply change the duration dates. Have fun creating your stories!! :)

Duration: 1/1/20-1/31/20
Completed: 0/5

My Name is Rapunzel and I would like to tell you a short story about what happened to me on my 16th birthday. I had always wanted to meet my father, but he was a Dead Beat dad. He was never around for me. When I turned 16, I decided to go looking for him. I found him in a bar, fighting with a woman and realized that he was Vicious. I had held an image of him in my mind all these years and it was Shattered. I ran away as fast as I could go with tears in my eyes. All of a sudden, I realized that I was lost! How would I get home? Suddenly, there in the distance, I saw it. The Light Between Oceans. I knew where I was! I ran home and straight to my bed. I would never again search for the man that had no place in my life.

Books to read:
My Name is Rapunzel
Dead Beat
Vicious
Shattered
The Light Between Oceans

Lexi (lexi_liese) | 136 comments I will join this one! I'll start by putting my books to read in January, and then I'll come back and finish my story later.

Duration: 1/1/20-1/31/20
Completed: 4/4

The Starless Sea lays ahead of us. I know its existence means we're coming close to leaving this place, but my relief is smothered by the constant reminder of what we saw within this cave. One of us has been here before, so that means One of Us Is Lying. When we began this journey, we were led to believe the cavern hasn't been ventured to in centuries, but when we arrived all of our secrets were carved into the cave walls like sad, demented hieroglyphics. Secrets only someone in this group would know. This group was supposed to be a safe place to overcome all of your faults; where you talked through your greed and envy, your Pride and Prejudice, but someone has betrayed us. Someone has taken our secrets and used them against us. Even now, I am forced to stare at my own secret. The story of the girl I betrayed. The story of the Gone Girl.

Books to Read:
The Starless Sea
One of Us Is Lying
Pride and Prejudice
Gone Girl

Lexi (lexi_liese) | 136 comments That was a lot of fun! I have some ominous titles planned for January, so I really leaned into it. Maybe I'll have to continue my story into February!

Kristie | 5928 comments Great story, Lex! And that's a great idea. You could have one long, interesting story if you kept it going all year.

message 10: by 幽灵 (new)

幽灵 (_youlin) A long long time ago, The Bear and the Nightingale lived in the forest peacefully. They scrounged for food together and shared them as they're the best buddies ever. One day, while they were hunting for honey, the Bear said: "Hey Nightingale, did you see The Girl in the Tower ahead of us?" And the Nightingale replied, "She's so beautiful! She's The One for me!" The Bear pursed his mouth and said nothing. He had squinted through his Amber Spyglass and saw that the girl was indeed beautiful. Her hair flowed down in curls and her pale ebony face held such sadness that the Bear wanted to hug her and stroke her hair tenderly. As if she could see him, she raised her soft brown eyes, looking directly at his direction. Her small pink lips formed a smile that warmed his heart tremendously.

"Come, my love, my brave." She sang suddenly and the birds in the forest stilled at the sound of her rich melodious voice. "The Selection must be held, for the bravest warrior to save me. The Winter of the Witch is almost here, and that's when the Sorceress triumphs. Time is ticking and only The Elite can free me. So come, my warrior! I'll be waiting for you." And she finished with a sigh, tears of longing glistened in her eyes.

Books to read:
The Bear and the Nightingale
The Girl in the Tower
The Winter of the Witch
The Amber Spyglass
The Selection
The Elite
The One

* I know my story sounds weird but this really is fun and I'm glad I tried!

I forgot all about doing this challenge earlier in the year. I'm thinking of trying it again. Can we make our time frame as long or as short as we need it to be?
