I got it from the Calling All Spreadsheeters link, Thanks! This is a lot of work on your part but we appreciate it.

Valerie | 383 comments On the group home there is a place that keep track of the number of books we say we will read and how many we have read. Do we have to wait until tomorrow to set that up?

I updated the challenges section of the group, but for some reason, it's still showing 2020 instead of 2021. If you click on Group Challenges, it will come up, but I'm going to play with it some more to see how to get it to display properly (this is the first year I've had to update it!)

EDIT: I've figured it out. You should be able to see it on the homepage for the group now.

I see you posted detailed instructions for how to set up our yearly challenge so that it shows on our page. That is really helpful, as I had to muddle through it when I did it for a short-term challenge in another group. But it's optional, right? I am already tracking my progress on my thread and in the spreadsheet. I can see that it would be a quick way for people to see their progress, but to me it just seems like one more thing to update.

Yes, totally optional :)

message 107: by Edie (last edited Jan 02, 2021 02:02PM) (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Where can I find the consolidated Listopia for 2021 topics? I realize there is a Listopia for each prompt is listed with the prompt, but I thought there was also a consolidated list. I have spent the last 30 minutes bouncing around looking for it to no avail. Could it perhaps be listed on the Mod page where the prompts are listed? or at the TOP of the FAQs page where all manner of links are, but not the Listopia link. Thanks.

message 109: by Alina (new)

Alina | 18 comments I haven't done this challenge in a number of years but decided to go for it this year. In the past, I was able to add a URL to my profile so that I could access my plan easily. Goodreads will no longer allow URL's in our profile. Is there an easy way to access our personal plans directly without scrolling?

message 110: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I would recommend either bookmarking your plan or saving the link on the Community Spreadsheet (if you use it). I personally keep my plan linked on my column of the spreadsheet so I can access it easily. If you don't use the spreadsheet, bookmarking on your browser is easy, assuming you use your browser and not the app.

message 112: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2873 comments I created a private group for myself. I keep the links to my posts in different groups there.

message 113: by Jill (new)

Jill Frick (jillyfay) | 28 comments I need help and didn't see this one in the list of topics...on the home page there's a place to track your challenge for the year. It says to:
"How to: Create a dedicated shelf in your profile, copy-paste its name (not the url) in the "challenge box" and add your books to this shelf!"

I did that - it's called: 2021-book-a-week-challenge. I've put that in and saved it multiple times but it's not updating with the books that I've read from that shelf (1 read, 3 on it total). What am I doing wrong?? Thanks! :)

message 114: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Jill, my only suggestion is to make sure that you have read dates put in for all of the books on the shelf that you've read (sometimes when you change books from Currently Reading to Read, it doesn't add a completion date). If there's no completion date, it won't register that you've read the book within the challenge deadline.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else it could be.

Tsipi Erann | 138 comments Trying to create a plan, I get a message I must first verify email. But I haven't received an email verification... What can I do?

message 116: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
That's strange. You're in the plans folder and clicking New Topic?

It shouldn't be requiring you to do anything that you haven't had to do to post in this thread, but I know Goodreads gets a bit glitchy so it could just be Goodreads acting up.

message 117: by Tsipi (new)

Tsipi Erann | 138 comments Yes, I click new topic, add text, and when I try to post I get a red notification about email. I hope it's a temporary glitch, I'm ready to jump in :)

That's so strange... I'm able to post a new topic without issue. Would you like me to start a topic plan for you, and you can just comment on it? Since it seems like you are able to comment, just not create a new thread?

Jillian | 2873 comments I know that the verify email has come up before in other groups. This is from the help page. Hopefully, that will help in case you have other difficulties with GR needing to verify your email.

https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

To verify your email address on the site, go to your Account Settings page and select the Settings tab. If your email address isn't verified, you'll see a red message next to it – click re-send verification email. Check your email inbox for our message with further instructions.

A month or so ago, I kept getting "captcha" codes that I had to click to prove I was not a robot before I could add a thread. But it was just on one day.

Found it here way back in 2018

Hm that's so strange that it wasn't in the group description anymore. Here's the link to the new one:

I've added it back to the group homepage. You can also find it in the first post on this thread.

viemag | 180 comments I have a question about the prompt: A book by an author whose career spanned more the 21 years. (not sure I have it quite correct) but, Does the author need to be dead to qualify for this prompt? Faye Kellerman has been writing her Peter Decker and Rina Lazurus series since 1986. But she is still writing. So just wondering if her book qualifies for this prompt.

message 130: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I think the spirit of the prompt intends that the time difference between the author’s first book and most recently published book is 21 years (or, I suppose, if you know the author is working on a new book right now, their career is still ongoing, so it would count 21 years from their first book’s publication until today). The author does not need to be dead to qualify.

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments I didn't know where to put this, but someone has filled in a book on my column of the spreadsheet. It is book 8. I don't know how you can find out who did it and get them to move it. My column is the first in the G-L section.

Jill, I would just remove it, and hopefully they catch their mistake. There's no way of tracking who wrote it since most people appear as "anonymous" when they are contributing.

EDIT: It looks like it was Lindsey K's submission... I checked her column and she used the same formatting and had the same book recorded for that number, so I went ahead and moved it over.

Thank You. I didn't know if I could remove it, and I didn't want to upset anyone by them losing it.

Thanks

message 135: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Hi Emma! I'm not sure what genre bingo is... we don't have a challenge called that in this group. We did do a bingo game during our last Read-a-Thon, but it wasn't tied to genres.

Yes, Edie! It will start in June. We will post the prompts closer to the end of the month.

message 139: by Maria (new)

Maria | 2 comments Hi! Sorry if this is totally off topic, but I could not find any information elsewhere.

This is my third year doing ATY (or at first a similar weekly challenge in Finnish) and I really like how this inspires me to explore new authors and genres. However, I would not like to have all of the ATY books to have an effect on my Goodreads recommendations. Is there any way to prevent it?

Thanks,
Maria

PS. If someone is interested in a totally nerdy Google sheets template with weekly checkboxes, total pages read count + some pie graphs showing fact/fiction, male/female writer and continents of origin, I can share 🙂

In my case, I have a number of genres and shelves, such as Mysteries, Historical Fiction, TBR, etc. GR gives me recommendations for each one separately. If you put all the ATY books under a shelf/genre such as ATY, you will get recommendations based on that as one of the categories, which you can ignore if you want. But I think it shouldn't affect your other genres.

Edie | 1143 comments Emily wrote: "Yes, Edie! It will start in June. We will post the prompts closer to the end of the month."

Duh! Somehow I had it in my head that the Spring challenge was for Feb-April. I literally spent most of April 30 finishing off the last book for the challenge. So, since, in my head, the challenge was over, it was time to start the Summer Challenge. Thanks for straightening me out... and for all you do for the ATY folks.

message 142: by viemag (new)

viemag | 180 comments Hi: I need assistance. I somehow stretched my block on the community spread sheet. I was trying to enter in block 44(A title that contains a negative) and some how got the block to stretch across the person to the left of me and the person to the right of me. I apologize in advance. I am not sure how to stretch the boundaries back in. Thank you Viemag.

Viemag could you explain? I'm looking at the spreadsheet now and it looks fine. Did something get deleted? I checked through the version history and it doesn't look like you actually did anything.
