Sarah | 18550 comments I bought Lab Girl as it was only 99p and is looking promising as being one of next month's group reads.

message 152: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4560 comments I'm trying not to buy a lot this year. If I can borrow it and it isn't too long, I figure I'll go that route. But if it's long or not available to me, I'll consider a buy.
So since January I've bought:

Lexicon (fits the Yearlong)
One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow
Baba Yaga Laid an Egg (fits the Yearlong)
When I Was You (fits the Yearlong)
Thief River Falls
One Word Kill (fits the Yearlong)
Penmarric
Bake It Like You Mean It: Gorgeous Cakes from Inside Out (loved the cover cake)

Janice (jamasc) | 60213 comments I picked up some books that I'll read in March:

The Tell-Tail Heart
Golden Fool
The Mercies - I'm looking forward to reading this since I'll be going to Norway in August.

message 154: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11686 comments Roz, that's some haul! Penmarric holds fond memories. I loved Susan Howatch when I was a teen.

Janice, The Mercies sounds so good! Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Jayme | 4620 comments I preordered The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz. love Erik Larson. This is my most expensive book purchase of the year.

Mu mom and I swap books. When she gets a pile she'll send me a box and vice versa. What I received recently:
Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive
The Far Field
Beyond the Point
The Lost Girls of Paris

Just added The Mercies to my wishlist. Oooh, you'll have an amazing time. Norway is on my list of places to go.

We're doing a cruise and visiting 4 fjords. We embark the cruise in Copenhagen. When we get back, we may tour around Denmark and possibly Sweden. I'm going with my sister, brother-in-law, and a close family friend.

I just read a book, The Good Hawk set in mythical Scotland and Norway, and now I'm going to read another book set in Norway with a Scottish character.

Kristie | 19380 comments There is a % off member sale starting in the US. If you check your wishlist, some of your titles may be on sale. I just picked up Lethal Bayou Beauty for $5.95.

message 160: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Norway is beautiful Janice!

Kristie | 19380 comments Here's the link for the Audible sale, if anyone is interested. It's a bunch of series and I think usually the first three books. https://www.audible.com/ep/series-sta...

message 162: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Feb 23, 2020 07:04PM) (new)

Kristie | 19380 comments I picked up a few more in the Audible sale.

Swamp Sniper - I now have the first 3 in the series. :)

I haven't started these series yet, but I own the others, so figured I'd wrap up the trilogies. I hope I like them all!
The Toll
Morning Star
Ruin and Rising

My husband really enjoyed 44 Scotland Street, so I grabbed the next two in the series for him.
Espresso Tales
Love Over Scotland

Groan! I still have $5.05 left of my coupon at Audible, but there are so many choices! What to buy. What to buy. What I like about this sale is that it's not just the first book in the series. I already have way too many of those.

That's what I hear. I've downloaded an app to teach me to speak Norwegian. LOL! I'm having fun with it.

Roz | 4560 comments I just bought The Last Moriarty for $0.99. I needed something with a musical instrument on it.

message 168: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11686 comments there's also an audible UK BOGOF. I picked up;

The Woods, Stay Close, The Confession and for Pete, Hope for the Best.

I agree with the cover. Where did you get it for 99 cents. Roz? I have it on my TBR list, though not for the cover.

message 171: by Cherie (last edited Feb 24, 2020 06:57PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, Kindle. I bought The Last Moriarty (A Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery #1) by Charles Veley and The Wilhelm Conspiracy (A Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James Mystery #2) by Charles Veley . When AmyK yells at me for using her Kindle account, I will tell her that you made me do it, Roz. :o)
(Barnes & Nobel did not have them.)

message 172: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I picked up Rode sneeuw in december. It's by a Dutch author who writes historical fiction set in the Netherlands and I've been wanting to try her books for a while.

Actually I got an alert from Amazon about the second book. So I just checked to see if there was a deal on the first as well and there was. I get deal alerts from BookBub and Early Bird Books as well. Early Bird Books directs you to different distributers including Barnes and Nobel, not just Amazon so that would be good for Nook users.

You can blame me any time Cherie. It's for a good cause. ; )

message 174: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Just kidding, Roz. She pays for the Kindle books and I pay for the Audible books. We share. She has been reading the new Nora Roberts books. As long as I do not start reading or listening to one she has already started, she does not yell at me. ;o)

message 175: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Every year there's a 'Gift a book' thing where a children's picture book and a regular children's book are for sale in all bookstores for only €2. The idea behind it is that all children should read and deserve books, and when they're only €2, people will be more inclined to buy them, or perhaps even schools will buy them for all the children.

I came across this today, and this year's book is Koning van Katoren (also translated to English:How to Become King), which I know I loved as a child, but which I also haven't read in at least 25 years. So of course I picked it up! I'll gift it to my nephew when he's a bit older :)

Also, at 176 pages it just makes the challenge cut-off ;-)

message 176: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60213 comments I succumbed to the Audible sale.

24 Hours
A Local Habitation
An Artificial Night
The Limehouse Text
Murder at Half Moon Gate

I also got The Tales of Beedle the Bard which is a free pre-order on Audible. It's a novella due out March 31.

I also grabbed this one.

message 178: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments I just got a few books in the mail I ordered in January. I am now banned from buying books:
The Disciple of Las Vegas
Grass for His Pillow
The Red Pole of Macau
The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling last of #authorsforfireys purchase, and the books is decorated and painted by the author, and signed, and a letter.

And then the guy with the books thing at work interrupted a meeting I was in to shove a book at me, and say "This is for you" and then disappeared... everyone else was jealous that someone interrupts my meetings to gift me books:
Into Bones like Oil

message 179: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11686 comments Haha, I wish someone had interrupted my meetings to give me books!

I love those titles, especially the Dumpling book ;-)

message 180: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Margo | 11686 comments I bought The Murmur of Bees last night for the montly read.

message 191: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I keep forgetting to post my audible purchases here for some reason. I think because I get one book a month in my subscription, I don't see it as buying a book. Haha! I just purchased Mastering Stage Presence: How to Present to Any Audience (as my application to speak at the convention I mentioned has been accepted so now I need to get ready for it) and How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence. Now I have my car, I'm listening to my audiobooks more so I'm whipping through them much quicker than before which is nice.

I noticed that my listening skills are terrible and I prefer reading since I process the information well.

Time to practice!
