What have you purchased? - 2020

I held out till the 5th. But if audible is having a sale in the US it won't be long till they have one in the UK. On the Brightside, their sales these days are terrible - lets hope the ones this year are just as bad :-)
I bought Mistress of the Art of Death from B&N last night because I promised to start a buddy read with Jannene and Dom on the 15th. I logged into my library site to download it and found out it was not going to be available for two weeks. It was the only copy of the book that my library had too. It had been available for over two months and last night, it was not available. I wanted to cry.
Before I go to bed tonight, I will buy The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules. I've broken the ice!
I bought They Both Die at the End as an ebook. After paying, The House of the Spirits was recommended to me and it was only 1.99 and already on my wishlist anyway, so I got that too.
I've recently bought Lexicon and One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow. They were only $1.99 and I can use them for the Twisted Trivia. It seems Hawker's books aren't available through my library. I also bought Baba Yaga Laid an Egg (loved the title). It works for Mythology and translated from a different language.I'm trying not to buy more books this year (print or ebook). I have so many that need reading. If I can borrow it, good. Plus I have Amazon Prime so sometimes I can borrow them easily that way. I wanted to read The Stillwater Girls but the book wasn't available (or listed through the library) in any format. Found in the Prime Reading library. Very happy.
The House of the Spirits is by one of my favorite authors. It is a good book. It is her most famous book. In my opinion some of her other books are much better. I hope you enjoy it
I broke the fast!Kindle Daily Deal - Gods of Jade and Shadow
Audible sale:
The Long Ships
An Easy Death
The Return of the Native (couldn't resist the narration by Alan Rickman)
Janice wrote: "Before I go to bed tonight, I will buy The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules. I've broken the ice!"Well done : ) I read it a while back and enjoyed it more than 'The 100-Year-Old Man Who... Disappeared'. The old folk were subversive which appealed to me a lot and the book didn't take itself too seriously.

I'm 25% in. It's an easy read, so that's good. I need to buckle down and power read it because book club is Thursday night.
Annerlee wrote: "You can do it. It is an easy read : )"I'll finish it tonight. I'm at 78%. It seems once I'm over the half way mark, it's quick to the finish line.
I've purchased 2 books todayCuckoo Song which I'm alreadying reading (so far 54 pages)
Gullstruck Island
And another 3 books from amazon yet to arrive:
City of Ghosts
The Silent Companions
Stepsister
I've been enjoying reading so much that I no longer have storage for books, I'm trying to find places to donate the rest of the books that I do not need (which is surprisingly hard to do in my country)
Now that the ice has been broken on my idea to curb spending, I'm out of control again. *sigh*Today's purchases:
The Whisper Man - Kindle Daily Deal
Daisy Jones & The Six - Audible
The Good Hawk - Audible
Children of Virtue and Vengeance - Audible
Age of Death - Audible
Audible has a sale right now - use 2 credits, get $5.00; use 4 credits, get $10.00; use 6 credits, get $15.00. My $10.00 coupon should arrive Feb 5th. Woot!

I've been trying to find a way to read a book without having the physical copy to save up storage like ebook-audiobook but I honestly prefer the old fashioned way haha, I should definitely try this!
ʙᴀsʜ wrote: "I've been trying to find a way to read a book without having the physical copy to save up storage like ebook-audiobook but I honestly prefer the old fashioned way haha, I should definitely try this! .."I've gotten to the point where I prefer audiobooks. I find that my reading speed has slowed down for print books. With ebooks, I can highlight, search, look up definitions without having to put the book down. I do still have physical books as well so I haven't given up on them entirely.

I've been considering this since its not easy to attain a specific book when you are all the way from middle east, I missed the chance to get a book and now its gone, nowhere to find even online last edition is out of stock it seems impossible for me, quite sad when I finally found an author that I can consider my favourite now
Janice wrote: "Do you use Book Depository to buy books? Maybe you can find it there. Which book was it?"they do not deliver to kuwait :( I've been trying to find fly by night by frances hardinge , to be honest I'm trying to find all her books. some of them are on audible, thats a good option I guess
Fly by Night sounds like an interesting book. Does Amazon have it on Kindle in Kuwait? I can only buy from Amazon.ca because I'm in Canada. Look at the edition I can order through Amazon.ca! It's gorgeous! -

theres a new edition Fly By Night this one, It was at the book store with Deeplight her latest book, among some other I bought, I hate myself for not buying them because when I went back a month later after finishing her book A Face Like Glass all of them are gone, no one wants to help and they claim "we only have the two books you are purchasing right now" liar... theres two other that I already bought but you don't know and dont want to do your job! sorry I'm rambling but I'm just disappointed
I had to buy it! LOL! I'm so impulsive when it comes to books. I hope you can buy it, Bash. If you do find it, we could do a buddy read.
Janice wrote: "I had to buy it! LOL! I'm so impulsive when it comes to books. I hope you can buy it, Bash. If you do find it, we could do a buddy read."omg yes! that'd be fun
With kobo you can cheat a little. I pretend I'm in the US so I can use their deals and have a larger selection of books to chose from. Maybe that's an option?
Bash, what Amazon do you buy from? Can you buy from Amazon.ae? They have it:https://www.amazon.ae/Fly-by-Night/dp...
Thank you! I actually have on idea which amazon I use (completely forgot about the region thing) found that the cheapeast was canada amazon, UK has the latest edition but expensive shipping, thank you so much <3 @peggy and @janice

The Whisper Man is on my wish list.
Audible uk has a 2 for 1 sale. I am considering The Sealwoman's Gift but there's nothing obvious for a second book.
ʙᴀsʜ wrote: "."I know what you mean Bash, there's something very satisfying about holding a physical book in your hands. I was forced to convert almost exclusively to audiobooks when I developed reading problems. I still miss "proper books" but I have a small collection of poetry books on my shelves. I read poetry much more slowly so I can manage them :-)
Margo wrote: "JAudible uk has a 2 for 1 sale. I am considering The Sealwoman's Gift but there's nothing obvious for a second book."The Sealwoman's Gift sounds interesting. I've added it.
Yes! Having a physical copy is nice but Its amazing that nowadays you can get ebook or audiobooks, i remember i used to listen yo an audiobook when I was still in college since it was too noisy to read in peace. It was fun :) I just remembered that ibook exists! So @Janice I’ll cancel the order and get fly by night on ibooks , saving up 30 dollars! No longer considering kindle. Goodness everything is turning out great!

I started The Masked Rider: Cycling in West Africa
Well I caved! I bought The Sealwoman's Gift and A Room with a View. The second will fit card 5, geography, yay task as it is set in Florance.
Margo wrote: "Well I caved! I bought The Sealwoman's Gift and A Room with a View. The second will fit card 5, geography, yay task as it is set in Florance."The latter is only 119pgs! I just looked because the book name is familiar and I thought I owned it too. Turns out I don't but have A Room of One's Own. Which is also too short for any task!
I checked, the hardback page number is 229. The version I clicked on must be very small print! I would have wanted to buy it anyway as it is one of those classics I always meant to get around to and the narration by Rebecca Hall is wonderful.
I have so many books under 175 pages! We should do a challenge for those. Maybe adding pages of different books to reach 175 or 200?

The most popular physical copy is the paperback, which is only 119 pages. I always find it strange when book lengths vary significantly.
