I've become very frustrated with my library. Origami Man isn't available through the digital library, and it isn't available through Prime. So I put a hold on the print copy, about 6 months ago when it first came out. It's the last in the series (so far). Plus I can use it in the Trivia Challenge if I make some swaps. I'm not waiting any more. It's available in Kindle form for $1.99 so I bought it.
Saar The Book owl wrote: "I think I might be sick. I've haven't order a book this year ;)"I think I hadn't too, and when there's a sale on Penance and Confessions which I really want to read, I didn't think twice and bought it. If there was no price off, they'd stay in my wishlist for I don't know how long.
I bought a Nook Book this morning for the last book on Card 6 of my yearly challenge. I could not believe that my library did not have it available - in any format. $7.99 will not break the bank and it gets me one card closer to that elusive Badge 3. I bought The Searchers. I cannot wait to get started reading it!
I picked up from the little libraries this week:The President's Last Love - read another by this author two years ago or so and enjoyed it, but was very surprised to see a book by him in the library!
Hive - I got given the second in the series by the book reviewer in my old job, so was super excited to find the first in the series in the library too. I was debating about when I needed to buy it.
Well, I've bought some fun stuff to read between books:銀の匙 Silver Spoon 1 Gin no Saji Silver Spoon 1
銀の匙 Silver Spoon 2 Gin no Saji Silver Spoon 2
How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You
I picked up Audible's Daily Deal, Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown. She was Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret and had an interesting life. This interview with Graham Norton is rather surprising and hilarious.

Edit: Just checked and my library has the audio, so I won't be buying it. I wonder if her book is as funny as her interview?
I debated between the audiobook and a print book, Kristie. She narrates the book herself, and it's likely not the best judging from reviews. But, I couldn't get over how much she sounds like the royals. I think it will make the experience that more real. And no, I can't imagine being a young woman of high status being subjected to that. It would have been shocking for me as a lowly peon. Yet she handled it with grace and aplomb.
I listened to part of the sample and I understand why people don't like the narration, but it may give the effect of feeling like she's telling her story directly to you. My library has both, so I figured I can try the audio and if I don't enjoy it I can always get the Kindle.
My library has it on ebook. If I can't handle the audio, $4.00 isn't a huge loss and I can switch to the ebook.
I have no idea what y'all are talking about so... I have to check it out. lol I can get it through Libby in 4 weeks. Thanks for sharing Janice.
At my library book sale today I got a non-fiction bag:All You Can Ever Know
Just Like Family
All We Know: Three Lives
Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive
She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement
The Unwinding of the Miracle: A Memoir of Life, Death, and Everything That Comes After

I've always thought they would be great to get a drink with, and this confirms it.
Janice wrote: "But, I couldn't get over how much she sounds like the royals."I found this odd when I worked it out with the Tudors. The Ladies in Waiting are contemporaries, not servants (although everyone are subjects). She'd have to be of the same class and social circles as the royals. She's titled for example.
Yeah, I had to google that. They are considered more like secretaries or companions than servants.I think Anne would have some great stories about Princess Margaret since she was such a rebel. :)
Janice wrote: "I think Anne would have some great stories about Princess Margaret since she was such a rebel. :)"Indeed! I think this insight, along with her own stories going from that interview, would be fascinating!
Janice wrote: "Did you get to pick your books, Sandra? Or was it like a grab bag?"It was like a grab bag (closed) but the titles were outside, so no surprises. I know I want to read 3 of the 6 for sure. If I decide not to read the other three there is always the free little libraries hungry for new books. Money to the library is always worth it. :)
Janice wrote: " This interview with Graham Norton is rather surprising and hilarious."That was so funny! I'm tempted to add the book. I'll keep it a couple of days. My TBR demands me to think twice before adding anything...

It's a win-win all the way around.
Audible has a $5.00 Harvest Sale on right now. I'm still shopping but have 3 titles in the shopping cart. There were only 2 from my Audible wishlist and I ended up punting one of the titles. Whittling away that wishlist, one book at a time. If I won't buy it when I have the chance, why keep it on? Problem is, I'll probably end up buying books that aren't on my wishlist.Clarification - not all my Goodreads wishlist are on my Audible WL, but all my Audible WL are on Goodreads. Sometimes being anal isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
I picked up a bunch from the Audible sale. I probably shouldn't since so many of the books I already own have shown up in Audible Plus, but at least I get to read them when I feel like it now. None of them are available on audio through my library. One Perfect Summer
Some Choose Darkness
The Good House
The Girls of Mischief Bay
Legal Tender
She Rides Shotgun
The Stolen Marriage
The Stranger's Wife - This one is third in a series, but it was recommended to me and I have been told it can stand alone. The first two are $2.99 on Kindle with a $1.99 whispersync deal, so they are easy enough to add.
Clearly I don't really know what I'm in the mood for. lol I got mystery/thrillers, historical fiction, women's lit, contemporary fiction... I'll certainly have a variety available.
I'm thinking is organizing all my challenges next year around books I own. That would be my personal challenge.
Sandra wrote: "I'm thinking is organizing all my challenges next year around books I own. That would be my personal challenge."I really should do that too. I have plenty of books.
I splurged today! Clara's Kitchen: Wisdom, Memories, and Recipes from the Great Depression on Kindle, because pots, pans, stove on the cover!
From Audible's sale:
The Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing Saga of a Donner Party Bride
The Broken Kingdoms
Sheepfarmer's Daughter
Not My Father's Son
The Ghostwriter
The Anomaly
I kept going back and forth on The Ghostwriter, so I just decided to go grab it. Might as well while it's on sale!
That's a nice haul you ended up getting too, Janice! Clara's Kitchen looks cute. I love the picture on the cover. She looks so happy! It's only $1.99 here. Hmm...
Found The Leopard in the little library. The library now has a quarter of its shelving back now. This is a chunky monkey.
I cant wait to read it. I am reading books for several of my book groups. It is sitting on my bedside table calling me.
Peggy wrote: "What did you think of it Kristie?"I thought it had some really good parts, but I didn't love it. The writing is different to get used to. It's like he's talking directly to the reader, which is fine, but it also has a 'stream of consciousness' feel to it at times. I lost track of what he was talking about a couple of times and had to go back to reread. The story was good and it had some funny parts too. It's a little difficult to describe.
I think it's one that might do better as an audio because it would feel like he was talking to you and telling a story. I think the sidetracks would seem more natural that way. Now that I'm thinking about it, I may try the audio at some point, if my library has it, just to see what it's like.
My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
That sounds like it might be better on audio. I'm glad it's different though. After his first 3 books I worried he would do just one thing, then Beartown was very different, good to know this one is too.
Yeah, it's like he changes his style every so often. Beartown felt like it was written by a different author than his previous work. Now, this is really different again. I think it's more similar to his other work than Beartown, but still very different. A lot of people are loving it. I just had a difficult time connecting with the writing. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.
