I told myself I wouldn't do this but I can't seem to help myself. I read Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder because it fit a category of the Trivial Challenge. Then I realized the main character was a redhead and I needed one for another category. So I read the second book in the series, Strawberry Shortcake Murder. After that I needed a book with 2 Ms in the title, so of course I'm now reading Blueberry Muffin Murder. They're okay but I really wasn't planning to start another series. But now I've got time invested in these characters. At least they're quick.I'm also reading Tears of the Giraffe, another series book that fits a TC challenge.

The other titles in the series fit other tasks. I hope they're good.

I'll be interested to see what you make of Wizard's First Rule. I've never read anythinh by that author or heard anything about him by reviewers I can trust.
I finished The New Husband and read Little Secrets. I started All the Broken People, but put it aside for What You Wish For because I was more in the mood for a lighter, non-murder mystery book. I'm also reading The Sun Down Motel, which is a ghost story.

Janice wrote: "I'm not enjoying the narrator. He interprets a lot of the emotion by shouting. I have 26 hours left to go! Waaa!."I read this years ago. I did not have access to audio back then. It is a door stopper.
I read Wizard's First Rule years ago and liked it. I can't imagine doing the audio version. For a book this long I need to read the words. I lose track listening. And the reading has to be an actual book, not an ebook, so I can go back if I forget something or who a character is. I have most of the rest of the series (got them second had through Abebooks.) I plan on reading the first in the series again so I can continue it. The reviews are very mixed, either you really like it or you don't. So if you like Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy, like the The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series or Game of Thrones and the rest, you may like this series too.
Epic Fantasy is my go-to genre. I intend to finish the book and if I decide to continue in the series, I'll switch to print.
Janice wrote: "Epic Fantasy is my go-to genre. I intend to finish the book and if I decide to continue in the series, I'll switch to print."I started doing "hybrid reading" last year. I alternate between the audio and the printed book when my library has both version, especially for these thick books.
I've done that too, Esther. But I alternate between audio and ebooks on my Kindle. I often read my Kindle at night in bed with the lights off (I don't have to disturb my sleeping husband. Plus I speed up the audio books to 1 1/2 times the speed . It goes faster that way.
I actually prefer audio for the chunksters. I generally don't start reading print books until I crawl into bed so I'm not getting as much reading time for them.
Janice wrote: "I actually prefer audio for the chunksters. I also read while waiting. Long grocery lines and the like. Or waiting for friend to show up. It really adds up.
This is not as true now as, with ebooks, I now often read on my phone when I have a few minutes to kill, but a friend told me that when she was meeting me somewhere she was looking for a book with hair sticking out.
In my case, I am a fast reader (in French and English). While I can spend more time listening as I do so in my car or walking somewhere (which I do a lot) or doing chores, reading a book is still often faster than listening to it,

I'm almost done, Sandra. I plan to finish tonight. It's really good if you enjoy mysteries and ghost stories.
Kristie wrote: "It's really good if you enjoy mysteries and ghost stories."Good. I requested it from the library. I haven't read a ghost story in a while so I think the timing is good.

Oh good! I hope you enjoy it.
I just started Name Tags and Other Sixth-Grade Disasters with my grandson. So far, the mC is pretty funny. I am planning to start Death on a Summer Night tomorrow for our group theme.
Silver, by Aussie author Chris Hammer, follows investigative journalist Martin Scarsden from Hammer's popular mystery, Scrublands. He's perfectly captured my part of the beautiful NSW North Coast, with drugs, backpackers, developers, politics and murders. A good read.

Rusalka wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Silver, by Aussie author Chris Hammer, follows investigative journalist Martin Scarsden from Hammer's popular mystery, [book:Scrublands|376..."I really liked it - maybe not quite as much as Scrublands, but it was a good read.
A favourite author is Aussie Sulari Gentill. I love her historical mystery series, and this episode, Gentlemen Formerly Dressed, is a treat! Rowland and his mates are in 1930s London, trying to elude the Nazis. It's a great mix of high and low society, politics, and murder in pre-war England.

All kids love dinosaurs, but not all dinosaurs love each other! I Will Never Forget You by Tatsuya Miyanishi is a children's picture book about a Tyrannosaurus and a little potential "lunch" who become friends.
My review with pictures
I finished Night Watch forr thee group theme read and twisted trivia. I've set The Subtle Knife to 'currently reading' for twisted trivia but I'm unlikely to get much if any read before the toppler tomorrow, sso I'll have to set it aside and pick it up again after.
Finished MARIE ANTOINETTE: The last Queen of France. The Entire Life Story
by The History Hour My Review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/3398439744
I finished Death on a Summer Night and am back to working my way through All the Broken People. I will probably need to put it aside again for the toppler tomorrow, but I hope to finish before the end of the month.
I’m reading The Spice Necklace: A Food-Lover's Caribbean Adventure and listening to The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914 - both fit the yearly challenge.
I recently read Missing William Tyrrell by Aussie investigative journalist and author Caroline Overington. It's a thorough, sensitive look at the puzzling and ongoing case of three-year-old William's sudden disappearance in 2014.

What's not to like about a selection of chapters from upcoming books? Publishers Lunch puts out a series of previews which I always look forward to, and Buzz Books 2020: Fall/Winter is as good as ever. Something for everyone, including non-fiction.

I finished Once Upon a River which was excellent. I started The Sympathizer for my RL bookclub. I am interested in reading it, but after such delightful writing in Once Upon A River I'm feeling very unimpressed by the prose in this one...
I'm currently reading Woof, which is ok. I didn't realize it is a middle grade story. I confused it with the author's other series, starting with Dog on It, which is for adults. The book will still work for my TT challenge and my toppler card, so it is worth it. :) I am also reading The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, which is really cute so far.
I just read the powerful #BLM memoir When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors about her growing up years and the price her family and friends paid - and are still paying - for ‘breathing while Black’. #Juneteenth

I finished

and Men We Reaped for the toppler.

I'm still struggling my way through The Sympathizer, so I picked East of Eden to alternate, and I am loving it.
I have had a great reading week. I think my depression is lifting. It helps that i was able to get one of my pain treatments. I was also able to see my niece and her child. I finishedLady in the Lake, The Testaments,New Orleans Mourning, andAgatha Raisin and the Fairies of Fryfam

Now that the toppler is over, I'm back to the books I put on pause - Audiobook - Wizard's First Rule
Paperback - The Amateur Marriage
