Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for the trivia challenge.

PattyMacDotComma This is a sweet new children's picture book by Japanese author/illustrator Akiko Miyakoshi with a message that's relevant to our times in lockdown: I Dream of a Journey.

I really enjoyed that Peggy

PattyMacDotComma I enjoyed this excellent, timely read that Aussie author and journalist Julia Baird has been researching for a long time. Phosphorescence: On Awe, Wonder and Things That Sustain You When the World Goes Dark just happened to be launched during a pandemic, right when we need it!
Phosphorescence On Awe, Wonder and Things That Sustain You When the World Goes Dark by Julia Baird 4.5★ Link to my "Phosphorescence" review

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished Egg & Spoon yesterday on audiobook. The only thing I enjoyed was Michael Page's narration.

I'll start If It Bleeds after work today. Woot! It ticks off a couple of boxes - new release & twisted trivia challenge. It might even fill one of the leftover stew challenge tasks.

message 506: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 340 comments I'm reading Foucault's Pendulum

message 507: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished In the Barren Ground on Kindle last night. It dragged a bit in the middle. Because I skimmed long drawn out passages that added nothing to the story, I gave it 3 stars.

I'll start The Body Reader today. It fits my twisted trivia challenge.

message 508: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19218 comments I picked up The Book of Lost Friends but didn't feel in the mood for it, so I started Little Secrets. I think that's going to fit my mood a little better right now.

I'm hoping to add a lighter book or two into my schedule for the next couple of months. This month I'm hoping to fit in Trouble in Mudbug and next month Woof, both for TT.

PattyMacDotComma Several people suggested I'd like The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, and they were right!

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished reading The Human Division for twisted trivia. Now starting The Goblin Emperor for the group read.

message 511: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments The Cruel Prince for the monthly read and the TT.

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I've started a book of short stories, Home From The Vinyl Cafe: A Year Of Stories.

message 513: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I finished Man of My Time - enjoyable read. Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm listening to The Oregon Trail: A New American Journey and reading The Orphan Collector, set during the Spanish flu pandemic. I'm using it for the yearly challenge.

PattyMacDotComma Ever wanted to drop out, disappear, become somebody else? The Last Flight by Julie Clark brings to mind the old saying "out of the frying pan, into the fire"!
The Last Flight by Julie Clark 4★ Link to my 'Last Flight' review

PattyMacDotComma I've had a couple of political reads recently. Colombiano is about the terrifying situation of kidnappings, guerrillas, and drug wars in Colombia.

Aussie-born author Rusty Young spent a lot of time there and wrote this compelling, fictionalised, first-hand account of a child soldier.
Colombiano by Rusty Young 4.5★ Link to my "Colombiano" review

message 518: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma On an entirely different political note, I just enjoyed this children's biography Work It, Girl: Michelle Obama by Caroline Moss. Written to inspire girls to become leaders, it has lots of details and includes more resources at the end.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading two books, Fool's Fate for a buddy read and the trivia challenge, and Paris Letters for the monthly challenge.

message 520: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished Home From The Vinyl Cafe: A Year Of Stories last night. I was a bit disappointed in it. I was hoping for some good chuckles, but only the 1st and last story had me laughing out loud.

I've started Interpreter of Maladies which is also an anthology of short stories. I'm not fussy for short stories, so not sure how I've managed to do 2 of them in a row. This one fits my twisted trivia, so it's all good.

I read another short stories collection by the author, Unaccustomed Earth and it was good. I hope you enjoy it, Janice. It is in my list for this year too.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11283 comments I finished Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption and gave it 4 stars.

I started now White Fang.

PattyMacDotComma A new favourite, the terrific Mystic River by Dennis Lehane. A 20-year-old classic that's lost none of its punch. Great story, great characters, first-rate writing.

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished Fool's Fate and If It Bleeds, both on audiobook. I will start The Black Tower today for the monthly challenge.

message 527: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I am reading Full Throttle by Joe Hill It is a collection of short stories. Each story is completely different. Joe Hill is an amazing author. The stories have all left me with something to think about. He enheartened his mom and dads talent. I think he may become even better than his dad

Margo | 11663 comments I've also finished Fool's Fate and i loved it. Great end to trilogy.

Started Tipping the Velvet for the monthly challenge.

PattyMacDotComma After Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel won the Booker Prize in 2009 and was short-listed for the Golden Booker in 2019 (best in 50 years), I figured I should read it again and write something. So I did.

So far it's brilliant - and informative LOL

message 533: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished Interpreter of Maladies. For such a small book (198 pages), it took me a long time to read.

I will start Eon for my twisted trivia challenge.

message 534: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I enjoyed my trip to sixteenth century Venice/present day Connecticut
with The Lost Diary of Venice. It was a nice getaway! Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm listening to The Alice Network and reading Disappearing Earth - enjoying both so far.

message 535: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I just finished The Goblin Emperor for the group read and twisted trivia . I'm now moving on to Strange the Dreamer for twisted trivia and I fancied something light and fluffyish. I liked the authors other stuff so let's see what this is like.

message 536: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I finished reading The Black Tower for the monthly challenge. I'm a bit confused about the ending.

Later on today, I will start Kill the Farm Boy for the group themed read. It will also fit the trivia challenge.

message 537: by uncomfytomato (new)

uncomfytomato | 265 comments I just finished Nightmares!

I've yet to find a fun middle grade book like Verdigris Deep :( the characters tend to be very bland and the story is too simple.

I might start reading Dig. or This Savage Song I'm not sure yet.

message 538: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11663 comments I've finished The Saturday Night Ghost Club. The writing was beautiful. 4 stars.

I also finished The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing but I'm not sure I was convinced. Time will tell!

I have started The Mercies.

message 539: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished the two books I was reading and I have no idea at all what I'm in the mood for now. Nothing appeals to me.

message 542: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60010 comments I gave up on Kill the Farm Boy. It was too off the wall for me. It's likened to Pratchett and The Princess Bride. I think it came closer to Pratchett and I didn't care for his work either.

I will start Abandon in its place.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Peggy wrote: "I finished the two books I was reading and I have no idea at all what I'm in the mood for now. Nothing appeals to me."

Pfew, that was only very temporary.

I'm going to start Staked. It's another step towards finishing that series. It's been ages since I read the previous book so I hope I can still make sense of it all.

I never did read the last one in that series, Scourged. I should probably do that eventually.

lol! At least the series is completely published. There are a lot of side books, but book 9 (Scourged) is the final book in the series.

message 547: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I was struggling to get into Strange the Dreamer. There was plenty to make me curious but for some reason I couldn't be arsed with it. I put it back on my tbr. Another time maybe. I'm starting Graceling instead for twisted trivia.

message 548: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19218 comments I loved Graceling, Sarah. I hope you enjoy that one more.
