Haha, Janice, when I read your message about the book for the group read, I blanked out the “themed”. I keep telling myself that as I am reading The Woman in Black.

I loved Stoner too Patty. It is one of those books that is very hard to explain to people what is so great about it.
I finished two 5 star books yesterday. South Riding, my book club read, and Into the Darkest Corner which was our group read. It's typical, not one 5 star book so far this year than two come along together :-D

Saw a John Scalzi book came out. I looked I'd read the first book. Don't recollect it so I started it again The Collapsing Empire. I'm far enough in now to admit I definitely did read it but I recall nothing

I'd probably have to re-read it before starting the second one at this point.
I can't wait to read the final book in the series. As soon as I finish the current audiobook, I'll dive in.
I have finally been able to see past the edges of depression. Its still with me but I am on an up swing. I am reading Origins. It is for a buddy read I have sadly neglected. Dan Browns char. Langdon is in my top 10 favorite chars.
I haven't read much the last few days as my concentration hasn't been so good. Just picked up The Human Division again and have been sucked in now so hopefully i can ride the momentum.
I finished off The Hunting Party this morning for the MM challenge. Is was so-so. Going to make a start on The Confession.
Oh dear I just sent off to buy the Hunting Party. it sounded so good. It is a selection on my Books a Month. I wont get it for a couple weeks.
JUST TO ALERT EVERYONE - World Book Day is celebrated on April 23rd and at this posting there are 7 days left to download from Amazon FREE Kindle books by international authors from 9 countries - Turkey, South Africa, Sweden, China, Germany, Israel, Spain, Brazil, and Argentina! And there is an international Amazon site to click if you are ordering from outside the United States.Looks like a good selection for our stay at home situations!

I started Birdwatching With Your Eyes Closed: An Introduction to Birdsong, just because. It may fit twisted somewhere but i wanted to build my skills at identifying bird songs. Although now it's rining and there will be no sitting outside listening to the birds.
Renee wrote: "Oh dear I just sent off to buy the Hunting Party. it sounded so good. It is a selection on my Books a Month. It ticks off a task in the TT challenge anyway!

That sounds really interesting, Dem!
I finished We Must Be Brave this afternoon. It wasn't what I expected, but really enjoyable.I will start The Last Emperox tomorrow.
Margo wrote: "I loved Stoner too Patty. It is one of those books that is very hard to explain to people what is so great about it."You’re right, Margo. It’s not full of fireworks, just deep understanding.
Even for Jeanette Winterson this is an unusual, funny, thought-provoking, historical fiction/sci-fi/sex-romp/love story. I’m not surprised Frankissstein: A Love Story was long-listed for the 2019 Booker. Hilarious and scary!

I have gone back to The Glass Woman. I see most of my GR friends liked this one. I'm just not getting it. Maybe it's the audio?
I think I've mentioned before that I like to have one audiobook and one physical (paper or Kindle) book going at a time. Recently, I started too many Kindle books and then hit a hard slump. So, now I'm working my way through finishing the ones I've already started. I finally finished The Forgotten Home Child. It was really good and should have taken a lot less time than it did because it kept my interest.
I am currently reading Unfollow Me (75%) and hope to finish today or tomorrow. I'm also half way through Big Lies in a Small Town. I plan to finish Big Lies as soon as I'm done with Unfollow Me.
I planned to read The Giver of Stars on audio next, but it is due back at the library (electronically) in 3 days and I don't think I can finish it that quickly. I will have to return it and hop back on the long waitlist again.
Instead, I will be starting Lethal Bayou Beauty for the monthly challenge, since I don't have any audios going at the moment. I think a humorous cozy should be the perfect read for me right now.
I've finished The Last Emperox and The Confession. This lockdown is helping me topple my tbr!I will start The Lion, the Lamb, the Hunted on audiobook and River Marked on Kindle today.
I'm finally reading Faithful Place by Tana French. While not my favourite of hers I've read, I've still been stupidly sucked in. I haven't had a lot of brain power to read lately due to changing jobs and then shutting down the university for 3 months 10 days in to new job with 7 brand new staff. But we seem to be finally crossing the barrier with this one... not to jinx it!!
In the last few days I finished Peregrinos which was a beautiful written 5 stars book. I also finished Amalia. The only good thing about this one is that it was written in French. Everything else was just meh.
I will start today Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption for my real life book club, which is not a real life book club anymore, but a zoom book club.
I have been thinking in rereading some Jorge Luis Borges' short stories. For some reason his stories have been in my mind lately, so I will probably go for The Garden of Forking Paths, that is one of his collections I have at home.
I DNFed The World Walker. I think it was aimed a young male audience.Started My Brilliant Friend for me next Zoom book club meeting.
Finished The Lion, the Lamb, the Hunted on audiobook and will start Clockwork Princess tomorrow. That ticks a few boxes, including killing a series!
I'm currently reading Skulduggery Pleasant: Playing with Fire. Which is the second book in the Skulduggery Pleasant series!
I am always happy to revisit Canadian author Louise Penny's village of Three Pines. Too bad that death is the price of admission. I loved The Nature of the Beast.

I finished River Marked last night and Clockwork Princess this afternoon. Clockwork Princess kills another series.I'll start In the Barren Ground tonight on Kindle. Tomorrow, I'll start Egg & Spoon on Audiobook.
I just finished Lethal Bayou Beauty. I thought it was a really fun read. I'm not sure what to start next. I'm thinking I might start Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men tomorrow. Either that or I'll start The Hobbit early for next month's theme.
Author Beth Miller gives us The Missing Letters of Mrs Bright, to explain Kay's coming-of-(middle)-age attempt to jump into life without a safety net.

Finished and enjoyed The Mercies
by Kiran Millwood HargraveMy review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/3214834273
I’mg grunting and squealing along with The Good Good Pig: The Extraordinary Life of Christopher Hogwood, and also with The Overstory and Man of My Time.
I finished The Other Bennet Sister. I was a bit disappointed what about 40% was a rehash of PRIDE AND PREJUSTICE seen from Marys POV which didn't add very much. The remainder of the story takes beyond the scope of the original work. A pleasant listen but only 3.5 star from me.Currently listening to The Foundling renamed The Lost Orphan for U.S. market. I can't get my head around that name as their is no orphan in the story!
Still struggling through My Brilliant Friend.
Roger Ebert was a Pulitzer Prize-winning film critic, but before that, he was a classmate and friend of mine, so of course I've always enjoyed his reminiscences. I wrote some comments about his memoir, Life Itself, but I didn't 'rate' it, just gave it "two thumbs up"!
My thoughts about "Life Itself"
