message 102: by Nedge (new)

Nedge Hi, I'm a newbie and by using the links in the New Members thread I seem to have put my reading goal in the 76-100 section for 2020 instead of 2021 - can someone move this for me please?

Also, how do I find my personal members corner record - is there an easy way to link to this so I can find it easily among all the others?

Finally, if I post a list of categories I want to meet in a challenge, is there an easy way for me to edit that entry (e.g. I'm doing my own personalised Genre Bingo and want to add the title of a book once I read it that meets each category).

Thanks!

Hi Nedge, thanks for letting me know, I have updated the link in the New Members thread.
I have moved your personal challenge thread to the correct folder for 2021, and I would suggest that you bookmark it in your browser so you can easily find it. (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)

To add a book to your original post, you can click on edit in the right bottom corner of your comment. This can only be done on the website, and does not work in the app. Please remember to also post a new comment with your update, so the challenge leader can update your progress.

Hi Niharika, you can set up your personal challenge thread in a way that works for you. Personally I start each year with the resolution to update after every book, but I end up posting only a couple of times a year which books I have read. :)

If you joined any monthly, quarterly or yearly challenges, it is required to post new comments with updates, so the challenge leader can keep track of your progress. However, you don't have to do this after each book if that is inconvenient, but can instead choose to update once a fortnight, once a month, or even less. Whatever works for you!

Hi Brandy, we do read all kinds of genres in this group, including YA. If you are looking for some people to join you in reading these books, you can suggest them as buddy reads. Please have a look at the first post of the buddy read sign up thread for information on how to suggest books for buddy reads.

Hi Noelle, you can't nominate a book because the topic is currently frozen. I'm not sure when it'll open. Also, I'm not a moderator. Don't get me wrong.

Austin, which challenge do you mean by "the challenge"?

*To join the 2021 Gooreads Reading Challenge, either click "Home" or go to your profile page then set your 2021 reading goal at either the Home page's left hand box or your profile page's top left section.

*To join one of this group's challenges, you go to the thread of the challenge you wish to join and pledge a goal. Since you seem to be new to the group's challenges, however, I suggest you read through the Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly Challenges - Start Here thread for details on how to join, participate, and update your progress in the group's challenges.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Hey mods, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing some problems with the Goodreads site? When I search for books the title I am looking for often does not come up (although if I do a Google search I usually get the Goodreads page for the book no problem). Also, for some - but not all - books, many of my friends' reviews do not appear. I am hoping you mods are privvy to the GR goings-on and might have some insight on these issues. Thanks!

EDIT - these issues have been going on for 2-3 days now at least.

Yes, I just had the same thing! And it looks like it’s indeed a known issue they are working on: https://help.goodreads.com/s/announce...

message 116: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 1686 comments Yes, I've come here just to find out if anyone else was having the same issue. I have found that I can find it the first time, but if I go to search it to add it to a forum post a second time, it vanishes. I've been getting by, by copying and pasting from my first post haha!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) So what about friends' reviews not appearing? Anyone else finding this? And I don't see it mentioned on the Help page.

It's not for every book, but it seems to occur with the more popular books. For example, 'Salem's Lot. My friends reviews do not appear, not even their star ratings. This has occurred with other books as well.

@Anne
In cases like this, it's super helpful to provide a link to your threads to save us the time of locating them.

I didn't find your threads in the "Personal Challenges 76-100" folder, so I used the Members search feature to find you and list all your comments. For 2021, I could only find the thread below in the Members' Corner folder.
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you post here a link to the thread you wish to delete, I would be happy to delete for you. However, all three of the comments you posted in 2021 belong to your thread that I linked above.
Best wishes.

It could be that the topic is not loading correctly, but that does not seem to be the case for other personal challenges.
When I go to your challenge (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) I do see all the comments but there is a big emptiness that I need to scroll past in comment #6, your January update. To me the comment looks like: your update with book 1-33, a lot of white lines, and again the same update with book 1-33. Have you tried editing the comment to see what it looks like in the comment box?

Ilse | 337 comments Hi, I've got a question about signing up for buddy reads. I've got a few books I'm signed up for, but I'm not sure I'll be able to read that certain month because I've got too many books planned that month and because the library is struggling with providing books at the moment. Would it be okay if I asked to remove me from the buddy threads, but then ask to be added back later on if the library is able to provide the books on time? Or is that too much of a hassle? I'm sorry about this, but I can't really do anything about it since I don't want to buy them all.

Yes Ilse, you can request in the buddy read sign-up thread to get yourself removed and added back later as long as your request for addition is before the deadline for confirmations. For example, the last date to confirm April buddy reads is Mar 25th, for May buddy reads, the last date is Apr 25th, and so on. If a buddy read is already confirmed, you don’t even need to be added to it formally to be a part of the discussion. Does that answer your question?

Yes! As long as the buddy read is confirmed, you can jump into the discussion anytime even if your name is not there in the list.

For a buddy read that was suggested but not yet confirmed (i.e. in need of a second reader), you will have to inform the Mods of your participation and get yourself formally added.

Btw, if you haven’t read the buddy read guidelines, I will suggest you to have a look at the first two posts of the buddy read sign up thread. They actually have a lot of useful information! :)

Karolina
I can certainly delete your thread, if you wish.
Another option would be for you to revise your annual goal (12 long books?), after which your thread title could be edited and your entire thread to the 1-25 Personal Challenges folder.
In that way, you could continue recordinging your 2021 reading journey.

Let me know. I'll check back here for your reply.

Alaina (ameserole) | 255 comments Hello Mods!

This might seem like an odd question but for the POPSUGAR 2021 Yearly Challenge, there's an advanced prompt - '#49. A DNF book from your TBR list'. If you haven't actually DNF'd a book before, would you count a book from a series that you possibly ghosted forever ago but decide to jump back into it due to all the books being published now?? Or no??

Hi Alaina, that is good question. Our general rule is that this decision is up to the reader; if you think that it counts, it counts. In this case, I think that using a book of a series that you DNF'd is a good substitution for a single DNF'd book.

Hi Lisa, you may want to have a look at the Buddy Read guidelines. Once you've signed up for a certain book and the read has been confirmed, the mods will post the thread around the 25th of the month prior to the agreed month.

Hi Julietta, I am not completely sure what you are referring to. Do you mean the info like the "Welcome Committee" behind my name? That is only there for moderators, indicating our main focus. As far as I know, it is not possible to change any colors on Goodreads posts.

Quick question about the group read for July! I noticed the poll was even between two books but for a few days there seemed to be one of the ones chosen as it was listed as 'next up' but now it's vanished again? Just wondering if a decision has been made as to which book will be read? I'm asking because I like to plan my reading ahead so I can get my hand on the books if needed 😅 it looked as if a decision had been made but now I'm confused!
