No, it's not Ski Weekend by RL Stine. I wish it was. hah
Also, this goes without saying, but spoilers will be included in this info dump as I search for this elusive book.
I read a book in the early 2000s (maybe late 90s) about a group of kids who go to a ski resort. There is a death (or deaths; I can't remember), and I am 100% positive that one of the main characters is named Sean. He is either the culprit or believed to be the culprit right up until the very end when the reveal shows him to be innocent (or guilty... whichever). I'm positive of the name detail because when I read it, I had been pronouncing his name in my head the whole time as "Seen," and when I mentioned it to a family member as I was reading, they corrected me.
Anyway, one of the other characters is skiing down a run close to the end of the novel, and there's a wire or something that they can't see threaded between two trees or something. The main character tries to stop the person from hitting the wire, but they don't get there in time, and the character is beheaded. The wire was placed there intentionally, of course.
So... that's it. That's all I can remember. I *think* there's romance involved, but it's for sure not the main focus of the story.
Lol Literally 15 minutes later, and I happened across the answer. I went off the "Ski Weekend" bit because the "Fear Street" and RL Stine threads were ringing some bells.
Turns out it was "The Face" by RL Stine. So... Yay!
