And a fun question to speculate about before we begin: 8 guests with 8 secrets - let's guess what the secrets might be. I'll give one point per correct guess!

Michelle Finazzo | 281 comments I like the cover, it is a bit disorienting and makes you feel helpless, alone, and cold. I'm lying on the forest floor staring up into bare birch trees. Hopefully I am not wheezing in my last breaths as the killer pursues me through the eerily quiet night.

The dedication is concerning. It possibly took a very long time to finish this book or the author's family had a streak of bad luck with multiple medical challenges during this period of time.

I think 2 of the 8 guests are having an affair. One of the guests has committed a murder and has gotten away with it up to this point. One guest has an illegitimate child and the other parent is "in the dark". One guest has stolen a large sum of money. One guest is a spy and is selling state secrets to a foreign government. One guest is operating under a false identity. One guest is seeking revenge on the other guests.

Andrew Finazzo (johnyqd) | 343 comments The title is generic to the point that if I saw the title on Netflix I'd have to really contemplate "did we watch this already"? I see there is at least one other book, a BBC movie, and an Amazon series that all share the title.

The cover art is eerie and I appreciate that they took the time to weave the branches through the title lettering.

The dedication is quite vast and leaves me with some questions, most importantly "are your mom and man OK?".

I'm excited by the plot synopsis and can't wait to dig in, but first my guesses about secrets.

*Stole money from an elderly person while being their caretaker.
*Had twins and put them up for adoption without telling their husband.
*Became a meth addict while being a detective assigned to a drug task force.
*Has 30 cats.
*Was raised as a cannibal and still finds ways to eat human flesh.
*Was best friends in grade school with one of the other people but isn't recognized due to a sex change operation.
*Stripped of thumb wars world champion title when it was discovered metal implants/braces had been put into their thumb joints.
*Time traveler.

George Trussler | 7 comments I think the cover looks like the last thing you see before whatever was chasing you catches up because you tripped over a root...

1) Is the murderer, duh
2) Psychic
3) Embezzling funds from a charity.
4) Is currently pregnant, but hasn't told anyone.
5) High priced escort
6) Was involved in a fatal HRUN (possibly last summer)
7) Disappeared and started a new life under a new identity
8) Pill popper
