Hey, everyone!! I posted how the challenge works below just so we don't have to keep going back and forth between here and the rules thread.

How it works:

For this challenge, we are hoping to help you make a good start to your New Years Resolutions! You may read books of your own choice, but if you would like to earn some bonus points, you can use your books to spell out 'Happy New Year' ☺

To spell out 'Happy New Year' you must do the following -
* Read your book, and write your review.
* You may then choose one letter from your book to count towards 'Happy New Year'.
* For this challenge, you may choose any letter from your book's title, series name, author name, and you can even use the word 'by', as in 'Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu', could be used for 'Y' (so basically any book can be used for 'Y')
* You may also choose to use a different edition of a book, with a different title in order to use a different letter, so again, for Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu, you could choose to use this edition - Fallender Himmel to count for 'H'. (Titles must be made up of English letters.)

So:
- 1 letter per book.
- You may use any letter from your chosen book's title, series name, author name, 'by', or title of an alternate edition.
- Alternate titles must be made up of English letters, although we will accept titles with accents over words such as á, é, í, ó, ú.
- '&' may be used as 'and'.
- Numbers in titles can be used, but are spelled out, so '1001' would be 'one zero zero one', '20' would be 'two zero'.
- You can only claim letters which appear in 'Happy New Year', so H, A, P, Y, N, E, W, R.
- You can only claim 1 letter per book, so if you use your book to claim the letter P, that will only fill in 1 P on your team's board, not both of them.
- For this challenge you may use words which occur after punctuation in a title, including after a colon ':'
- You may also use author's names, or the names of any editors, translators, narrators or illustrators.
- Bonus points will be awarded each time a letter is claimed.
- Letters can be claimed in any order.
- Bonus points will be awarded each time 'Happy New Year' is completed. - Please note these bonus points are added to team totals only.

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments I’m so excited for the book too! The first book was really good. I’m trying not get my hopes up, though, because I’m awful with hyping sequels up to the point where they end up disappointing me. 😭 But the title is everything

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments @Klancy, yeah I've taken a break from reading challenges for the last few months. 😅 I'm excited that we are on the same team too! 🎉🎉

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments What is everyone starting 2020 off reading??

message 24: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments I'm kind of tempted to start the 2020’s by reading The Great Gatsby... 🤣 kicking off the ’20s with a book based in the ’20s. Lol

Oh my gosh that's perfect 😂You should totally read it while drinking a glass of champagne

@Claire - Yesss, join us! We can all gush over it together!

message 29: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments @Klancy if I wasn't sick and on medication, I would TOTALLY drink champagne while reading it! 🤣

message 30: by mars (last edited Jan 01, 2020 11:15AM) (new)

mars (marsandphun) Hi guys

Edit: whoops, didn't realize this was some game/challenge. Thought this was a chat

message 31: by Klancy (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments @Jacquelyn - Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Nothing is worse than being sick. I can't deal with not being able to breathe with a stuffy nose lol

@mars - No worries! Feel free to chat with us :)

Also, I'm going to try and challenge myself to finish The Veil of Ashes (Princess Vigilante, #2) by S. Usher Evans today but I also know myself and I'm sure that at some point I'm going to end up watching some Netflix or YouTube 😬

message 32: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments @klancy For sure. I'm just annoyed because I don't have an official diagnosis. I have ”flu-like symptoms” but tested negative for the flu. Now I think I may have bronchitis, so I need to go back to the doctor. 😒 It will be the third time in a week.

message 33: by Klancy (last edited Jan 01, 2020 12:09PM) (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments That's so weird. You'd think that the doctor would be able to diagnose what you have when you go in...Or at least hope they would be able to without making you go in so often. That could be expensive and really frustrating

message 34: by Shae (new)

Shae Petersen | 6944 comments how was your trip Klancy? I remember you were going overseas after we last teamed together. Although I have baby brain so may be mixed up haha 😝

I slumped the last two months, the Christmas holidays got the better of me. Starting Paperweight by Meg Haston which is a GBR

message 35: by Klancy (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments The trip was amazing! My favorite part was visiting all of the different castles and getting to explore the grounds. And getting to drive through the highlands was definitely a highlight too! I would love to go to Prague next.

The holidays are always so hard to find time to read. You’ll have to let me know what you think of the GBR!

message 36: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments That sounds awesome Klancy! Where did you visit and when?

Hey Shae! 💕

message 37: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments I'm just now starting my first read of the year (it's not The Great Gatsby). I've been putting too much unnecessary pressure on my ”first book of the year”...so I unintentionally discouraged myself from reading.

message 38: by Klancy (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments I visited Scotland for a week in July! It was so much fun. I met a lot of nice people :)

Totally understandable. Nobody wants to start off the New Year with a book they're not excited about reading

message 39: by Klancy (last edited Jan 02, 2020 01:28PM) (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis | 1333 comments I also just finished The Veil of Ashes. Is there a letter everyone thinks I should claim?

Update: I just claimed H for now. We can move it later if we need to

message 40: by Jacquelyn (last edited Jan 02, 2020 07:22PM) (new)

Jacquelyn Simon (jacquelynrose94) | 2166 comments Btw I’m reading In the Hall with the Knife (Clue Mystery, #1) by Diana Peterfreund
There are several letter options 😃

message 41: by Shae (new)

Shae Petersen | 6944 comments I’m so glad you had such a good time Klancy! I’d love to go to Prague as well. I’d love to go everywhere haha!

I’m thinking maybe I should read regretting you by Colleen Hoover as I need something to get me out of my slump! I’ll check if there is a buddy happening for it.

I still need to read some of her earlier books. I started Slammed but for some reason I never finished it.
