if I shop our large book collection at home, does that count? I'm not sure where we got them from, though. I think I can tell if they are second hand, though. and some of them have prices written in pencil, so I know how much they cost, unless, of course they gave us another 20% off of that price.I just finished "First Dads: Parenting and Politics from George Washington to Barak Obama" by Joshua Kendall
I think Beers Books in Sacramento.
the price on the cover said $16.99, but there's no way I paid that! probably less than $5. oh, except it was a hardback. do I get a half a point at least? actually I don't know that it was second hand, maybe just deeply discounted.
The Story of Baseball, by Lawrence Ritter
Goodwill
$2 maybe?
I guess I'll count this as 1 unless people let me count the first one.
updateHow to talk so Kids can learn, by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish
a freebie in a box that some one was giving away
score: 2

A book doesnt turn second hand when you read it a few times or it has been in your collection for years.

I finally finished one!!This Alien Shore, by C. S. Friedman
Bought for half price ($4, I think or thereabouts) at The Book Exchange in Missoula, Montana.
I bought it at Christmas but didn’t start it right away. It’s a long book and I started reading in mid-January for a Buddy Read (which is long over and done now!), but I was reading too many books at the same time.
1 point!

I guess I'm done for this quarter, my current book doesn't qualify so I won't squeeze in a final entry. 8 used books out of 35 read so far this year isn't bad. The rest were mostly library loans and a couple of purchased-new books. See y'all next quarter. There may be a surge due to stay-at-home restrictions...

I'm so sorry, this completely slipped my mind to update and get going for Q2 (I even have a book to put there) But here's the outcome updated at msg. 4, 10 of my used book stash read
Thank you for a new post! It reminded me that I’ve actually read 2 more of my used books: Winter Rose (I cant figure out where I got it, but it was used) and Five on Smuggler’s Top bought at a charity shop for 33p. Total score for this quarter: 3 points.

Was it as good as The very enjoyable The Tea Rose?
I have no idea, Carol, because I’ve never read that one, but from the description it seems quite different. I loved Winter Rose and if you love beautiful prose, you will too. Some people fault it for the climax such as it is not really making sense, but I put that down to it being a different, very dreamlike realm, so it didn’t bother me.
