(view spoiler)[ This has The Selection feels written all over it but like a smidge darker and with magical elements and maybe even better written? I'm digging it for sure. I really like Sable and the dynamic with Prince Tauren - I hope this becomes a thing lol. Brecan I adored at first but now he's being a jealous little shit and I kinda wanna smack him hahah. Mira though?! Mira is my favorite right now <3 I love her energy and her animation abilities so much!! (hide spoiler)]

OOf! I was working on My True Love Gave To Me and The Final Empire so far today BUT now I feel like I've made a decent dent on those books to get on this one. I've just finished Chapter 2, don't judge me XD

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMVOMV9MGOVMKSHSUSN HEATHER I apparently didn't read the summary properly and DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS GONNA BE LIKE THE SELECTION AT ALL. All I knew was she was gonna be helping him but I totally missed the fact that he needs a wife. I'M FREAKING OUT BC I ENJOY THIS TROPE SO MUCH.
Also I liked The Selection as well but I do feel like I'll like this one more bc of the darker elements to it. I mean, home girl hung a man up to die a few chapters ago. and did that thriller movie thing where you're running but the bad guy is walking but still manages to catch you lmao 😂

RIGHT?!?! I was so shocked to find out it was playing the same tropes as The Selection.. but like, Sable is wayyy more dark and badass than America. I'm digging it.

(view spoiler)[ THEY KISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAH, I ADORE THEIR INTERACTIONS AND IT MIGHT HAVE SORTA BEEN A BIT INSTA-LOVE-ISH BUT I DONT EVEN CARE I SHIP THEM SO HARD!

Brecan goes from being someone I kinda like as her friend to infuriating and back again from page to pages hahah. But Mira?! I wanna keep her forever. Even if she has creepy spiders that are maybe kinda cool and fashionable but still creepy because they're spiders.

What is up with the black stuff taking over her skin? And her mother? Being buring alive? And the Queen? Gah, so many questions!!!!

I'M SORRY I'M SORRY, IT WAS GAME OVER AS SOON AS I REALIZED IT WAS LIKE THE SELECTION XD

BUT OMG (view spoiler)[YESSSS IT IS INSTA LOVE BUT I AIN'T MAD ABOUT IT BC THEY'RE SO CUTE and I loved Tauren a LOT more than Maxon lmao. Maxon was really more like meh to me but with that comparison in mind, I enjoyed how Tauren pretty much had his mind made up from day -5 AND HE WAS UPFRONT ABOUT IT TO SABLE FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!!!! EXCUSE ME, MAXON WHO? and I love how the whole "competition" isn't dragged out? Like in The Selection, the competition was the focus and because of that, I did not care about the world and the conflicts happening outside the castle. But here, that wasn't the case. I would say the balance is a lot better.

The unsupportive women in the competition kind of annoyed me bc it was catty and there was very little camaraderie amongst the contestants but it is a competition so I didn't expect a lot. But I'm glad that because the competition isn't a great focus in the story, there wasn't very much of this issue for me to deduct a star from it.

ANd oof Brecan! I HATED HIM FOR MOST OF THIS BOOK. But I'll let you read more before saying more on him lol.

I'm just like you tbh. I didn't expect to enjoy it THIS MUCH. I was getting super choked up for the later half of the book and I was like "wtfff is happening to me lmao"

ps. just a random note, I usually don't like "special snowflake character names" (I think that's what people call it when characters have weird ass names) but I LOVE the name Sable. It suits her so well! And everytime she favoured wearing black amongst other colours? My soul reached out to its kindred spirit XD

Yeah that ending was.. just holy cow! I kinda want another book with their son grown and as the mc lol.. I loved this so so much more than I expected to.
