What Are You Currently Reading - 2020
Fargo Burns, The Bitter Kind, Anything by Darcy Coates, House of Leaves, have been reading a lot of newly published authors/independents.
I just finished Flyaway which was kind of eerie and I loved it! It does make me super curious though whether the legend of the Megarrity is an actual legend or if it was created for this story. Anyone heard of it before?!My full review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Even though I've got a half dozen I'm currently reading, these three are the ones I'm actively reading...
,
, and
.
I'm also reading
and flying through it. Maybe because I didn't know much about it and I want to know.
Regeneration
The horror of WWI. I found this today in a box of giveaway books in the lobby of our condo building—with quarantine I finally have time to read it. Been meaning to for decades!

Sitting in Mount TBR. I'll be interested in hearing what you think, Christopher.

Randy, I liked Regeneration well enough. Certainly it’s very well-written. But I was a bit uncomfortable with the mixing of real characters with fictional ones, though I don’t know why (I liked it just fine in, say, Booth). I also felt the story was a bit scattered. Probably my expectations were too high, given this book’s fame—I was hoping for another Parade's End or The Road Back, but I don’t consider this to be on the level of those books.
Back to genre horror: The Black Carousel.

I wouldn't dare to read House of Leaves on anything but paper, agree :)

First time hearing of the Kindle Keyboard, how interesting... I find each reading device to be like a cheese grater, each does the job but in a different manner.. and I do have many microplanes and graters lol.

Kindle Keyboard was the last one to have a “keyboard” under the screen with letters and numbers to push, hence the name. After that I believe all Kindles were touchscreen.
I'm reading The Providence Rider
by Robert R. McCammonIt's the fourth installment and I'm hoping it's as good as the first three!
Flashpoint: High Strangeness in Puerto Rico
A fascinating and entertaining read. The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico already had a rich history of cryptid/ufological/fortean weirdness before El Chupacabras hit the stage.

Definitely agree! You gotta hold it to experience the horror, ha.
I spent like 2 hours one night translating one of the letters on a pad and paper instead of looking it up online just for the experience.
I have had a little break from horror as I have been catching up with a few classics. However, I plan to read my first Brian Keene next week. Can anyone make any recommendations of his work?

Did you finish House of Leaves? It was too overwhelming for me. I would need a Buddy Read to truly appreciate it. It is so brilliantly written! It's like a calculus/physics/philosophy textbook all-in-one, and just as heavy. I should suggest one maybe towards the end of the year and see if there are any takers.

Fevre Dream"
That is one of my FAVORITE BOOKS of all time! Say hello to Abner for me!
I started Tales from the Hearse: Thirteen tales of spine-tingling terror
Normally I’m not very into vampires, Char, but I’m halfway through Fevre Dream and really liking it. In 2020 I may be practically this book’s only reader who can come to it without thoughts of “Song of Ice and Fire” or “Game of Thrones,” neither of which I’ve ever read/seen—epic fantasy just isn’t my thing. Fevre Dream is my first Geo. R.R. Martin.

I wish, started it like 2-3 times and ended up stuck on the same pages haha, but I'm not giving up, one day!!

I'm so on the fence with this one because I love his writing but hate zombie stories XD
Amy wrote: "I really want to read this. How are you liking it so far?"it's been an enjoyable read so far. the writing's good and the premise has been interesting. not a huge fan of the main character, but maybe that's the point. or maybe he'll improve. we'll see, ha ha. :)

I was a bit hesitant to read this as I was very underwhelmed by Final Girls, but 88 pages in and I've been hooked from the start.
