I enjoy reading and learning about cultures and ways of life that are different to my own, as well as about people who are raised with certain beliefs and cultures who then make complete changes in their lives by "turning their backs" on the ways they have lived with all their life on going in completely different directions. It's interesting to see what inspires them to change, how they do it, and what the results of those changes are be it good or bad. Plus this book has been on my TBR shelf since 2012 :-S
Every year I realise I have not read nearly enough of the books that are nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards, so I nominate:
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel: Goodreads Choice Awards nominee for Fiction, 2014
and
The Martian by Andy Weir: Goodreads Choice Awards winner for Science Fiction, 2014

and

The Martian was a great read by the way! And there's a movie coming out :)

*** Can you host the discussion if your nomination is chosen? ***
To be a discussion Host you are agreeing to:
- read the book you nominated at the beginning of the month, if you haven't already read it.
- start the discussion in both the spoiler and spoiler-free threads by posting your thoughts and a few simple questions for readers to think/talk about
- inform the group if you're unable to host the discussion or will only be reading the book later in the month.
You may also offer to be the Host for someone else's nomination.
Authors and publishers may NOT nominate their own books for monthly discussions. Similarly, no one is permitted to rig the polls by inviting others or creating sockpuppets to join the group and vote for a book/author. Such votes will be disregarded and the book/author in question may be removed from the poll entirely.
Please tell us why you are nominating a certain book/author or why you want to read the book/author.
