The Maze Runner

Should I Read The Maze Runner??
James wrote: "I think you should read because the book is a little different than the movie. Also, if you start reading The Maze Runner soon, you can read The Scorch Trails before it comes into theaters next yea..."It does! I'm sold on reading The Maze Runner.
flickr wrote: "Noel wrote: "Okay, so I just finished watching 'The Maze Runner' and I must say, I'm impressed! The movie was way better than I expected it to be and now I'm kinda torn... Not to read it or to read ..."Thanks for your opinion! You really gave me a clear picture on what I'm going into to. :)
If you read the prequel, the Kill Order, you do get some answers, but not a lot. I don't think they will make sense unless you read the whole series though.
Okay, Got it.............. I just start The Scorch Trial, and its kind of weird.FOR NOEL: Just read it
Emma wrote: "Weird how? (No spoilers)"He's probably in the beginning where they find certain "stuff" hanging from the ceiling.
Nooooo, I'm too late.Look, Maze Runner is a fine book. But stop at that one. The first book ends fine, you don't need the next two. Those two (The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure) are junk. While reading them, I became progressively more confused and disinterested. By the time I finished the last one, I couldn't even force myself to read the prequel, Fever Code.
So:
Single book ==good
Series ==bad
No, No You are wrong.Series are the Best.
Without The Scorch Trial, the Maze Runner sucks, How can they escape the maze and then the book stops, that's just silly of james Dashner.
Come on The Maze Runner is not complete without The Scorch..
I would have been just fine without learning all the cryptic symbolism that never gets explained, not even in The Death Cure. And it just gets worse in the last book!
Bail out, man! Get out while you can! All those questions you'll have by the end of The Scorch Trials will never be answered!
I promised Emma, i am not going to say this, but i have to, this guy/ girl i driving me crazy, but i won't say it Why would you want me to bail out, my friends who read the Scorch says its the best book, Even Niya says she wants to reread it.
Noal wants to Read the maze Runner, maybe when she finishes she would like to read The Scorch.
So if you know what's good for you leave this discussion before i start saying what i am not supposed to say.
Hey, look. Someone (Noel) asked for opinions on whether or not to read the book. I gave mine. Now I am discussing that opinion. We're not going for a vote on whether or not this is a good book and/or series.I'm a guy, by the way. Don't let the Latin fool you into thinking I'm female.
(If you have something you just can't discuss here, you can take it to me in a private message instead.)
Whoaaa. But @Sic Transit (???) you're not really supposed to get any answers while reading Scorch Trials, because its another test: phase 2. The only answers you get is what the Gladers are supposed to get. That's why it's so good: because you just keep on guessing. And the prequel, The Fever Code isn't out until 2016. The Kill Order though is out and you do get some answers in that.
Sic transit gloria: A Latin phrase meaning "Thus ends the glory." You may call me by that, or Sic, or Mr. Gloria, or STG. I've seen myself be called all those things before. When I say you don't get answers, I mean you don't get answers. Ever. Not even in book three. It's never explained to you. You have to guess what Dashner's intent was, and with so many clues, it's actually really hard to figure out what the author was implying. My best guess is that Dashner never did have a plan; he simply wrote what he thought would be most dramatic.
I have read the first few chapters of The Kill Order, and there are some answers (one, actually), but by the time I reached that book, I was so sick of reading James Dashner's works that I simply shut the book and quit. I won't be reading The Kill Order because I simply don't believe that the author has any intentions of answering all the questions and bringing the series to a complete end.
Then that's your own fault. I know why WICKED was formed, I know why the Flare was released. What else answers did we need?
The exact meaning of every single cryptic "Variable" in the "Trials". I want a comprehensive overview of how everything in the experiments work. I want the plot holes to be filled in. I want a sound ending.Buuuuut...Let's be realistic. I'd settle for learning more about this "Chancellor Amy Paige" person, who is only mentioned a few times in the entire series, but is apparently very important. I'd like to know why the government thought up that horrible idea in the first place (no, not the Trials, though that's pretty messed up too. I'm talking about the other, BIGGER screw up. You know what I'm talking about.) I want to know why there's no one actually doing smart things about this Flare.
Heh, in another thread, some other people and I came to the conclusion that the entire book series is built upon some very flawed science and reasoning. You're not likely to convince me that these books are all fine and dandy.
My friends go to libraries for the computers, not the books. (My total high school size is about 250 kids.) I do a lot of discussion online, simply because there's not a lot of people to discuss things with (much less to discuss books with.)And yeah, it's been a few months since I read those books, so I'm not surprised I got that name wrong.
So Mr glory, what are you advising Or what are you suggesting me Noel, Emma, And the people in the world who have not read the sequel of the maze runner to do.Maybe if you say I should not read The Scorch trial, I may quit.
Just spit it out MR Glory, or whatever you call yourself.
Come On, I am waiting
Emmanuel what are you talking about? Don't try and start another argument. Just leave it. Who cares if one dumb shank doesn't like the series, life goes on. It's okay.
I am stating my honest opinion of the book series. I have supported why I have that opinion. And now, as Emma so wonderfully put it, "...life goes on."Please understand,if asked by a friend, I would actually recommend "The Maze Runner", just not the entire trilogy.
By the way, Emma, I love your reference to the book.
Emmanuel, when will you ever learn that people have different opinions from you? Sic Transit Gloria can dislike the rest of the series if he wants to, and you can like the rest if you want to. You're both entitled to your own opinion. My gosh, how many times do I have to repeat this to you? Stop starting arguments; just let it go.
Sic Transit Gloria wrote: "Bail out, man! Get out while you can! All those questions you'll have by the end of The Scorch Trials will never be answered!"Okay, I will, But did you get what he said, He said I should bail out, he wants to make me quit the scorch trials.
Mr. Glory, you are just a Newbie around so stop telling me what to do, Its a warning... Be wise to take it.
Emmanuel, I am bowing out of this argument as it seems that you are utterly unwilling to even try to see my viewpoint. However, I would like to correct something. You have 15 ratings on Goodreads; I have 410. Who is the noob?
Haaaaaaaaaa < > I am just new in America, where i come from i don't get the privilege to read books, But now here i have..... Now i read 15 and even more so don't judge me.I know what you trying to do, trying to make everybody like you but you can't make me.
My goodness, will you two please stop? I made this discussion for all kinds of viewpoints on this book, not just one. You don't have to like one another, I just ask you at least respect each others opinions or ignore each other. If you two can't handle that, I ask you in the nicest possible way to leave this discussion. I appreciate you both taking time to comment and share your opinions, but I don't appreciate this.
READ IT!!!!! Movie was good. But the book has all this little details about the story. It's pretty amazing too.
no, you don't need to read the book. The movie is better. Better imagery-better everything. You don't miss a thing, the important stuff is all there. The best part for me was the dialogue was cleaned up. I also loved the 3D map of the maze made out of twigs in the map room. I really didn't understand the movements of the maze after I read the book but watching the movie cleared it up. The whole series is just weird. A real "Lord of the Flies" kind of vibe. I was glad when it was over. I forced myself to finish the series, but one movie was enough for me.
The book is better, because you don't need a screen to tell you how to picture things. It's definitely worth the reading.
Even to make the book easy, There was a Movie sticker on it.... So if Minho is talking, you can flip the page and see how Minho looks like...Even when the Maze is opening it shows in the sticker, So the book is way better than the Movie.
HungerGames19: it's Definately worth reading.
Emmanuel: You can say that again.
oh my god... Its so good! watched the movie three times before I actually read the book and I still couldn't put it down! I love this book so much, It's one of my very favorites! I really think you should read it.
I need convincing too. Only, I didn't like the movie. Whenever I've been in this situation before, I've wanted to read the book and then watch the movie, but it never works out that way. And I know that, generally speaking, the book is better than the movie. I think it's a nice concept, but having seen the film, I'm just not sure I want to read the book. Somebody talk me into it, please!
Haystack wrote: "I need convincing too. Only, I didn't like the movie. Whenever I've been in this situation before, I've wanted to read the book and then watch the movie, but it never works out that way. And I know..."I don't get you Haystack, explain more.
Emmanuel wrote: "Haystack wrote: "I need convincing too. Only, I didn't like the movie. I was also trying to say that I had seen the film version of The Maze Runner, and I didn't like it. So, like the person who originally created this thread, I wanted someone to convince me to read the book.
I'll be honest, don't bother unless you want something to leave in the bathroom that you can pick up and read a few pages of without worrying you'll get lost in plot, character growth or pacing - because it has none of those things. It's a good idea badly written and in many ways that makes it way more painful to read than just a bad idea badly written, because it should be good but it's really not. It's clumsy - it reads like a thirteen year old's composition homework. If you want a good YA dystopian there are lots, Idlewild by Nick Sagan is great (if a little harder to find) or Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, Mister Monday by Garth Nix, or even Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. You might even try the grown up ones like Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut or Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
TMR just isn't a good book, save yourself the angst of going for god sake Thomas do sometihng other than pass out/fall asleep (it is better than the sequels though)
Haystack wrote: "Emmanuel wrote: "Haystack wrote: "I need convincing too. Only, I didn't like the movie. The movie changed the plot, was kind of rushed, had decent acting, and was generally kind of different from the book. The maze escape was completely different from the book. And the book has more character development. I'd say go for it, and see if you like it, because 90% of my friends who've read the book and see the movie didn't like the movie, but loved the book.
This was one of those rare cases where I thought the movie was BETTER than the book. Great casting/acting and plot over special effects helped. I see the author was one of the screenwriters, so maybe he to took the opportunity to fix the story? I agree the books are slow to reveal clues and you have to reach the end of the third before all is truly known.

I'm convinced, Emma! Everyone here has been very helpful and persuasive. :)
