Noël Okay, so I just finished watching 'The Maze Runner' and I must say, I'm impressed! The movie was way better than I expected it to be and now I'm kinda torn... Not to read it or to read it? I've been putting off reading this trilogy for a many of reasons, but if James Dashner's trilogy is worth the time and money, PLEASE help a girl out! Just tell me why you think it's worth the read, and if I'm being a complete and utter idiot for not having this book in my hand, right now. Or....tell me why you think it sucked and I shouldn't bother. Thanks!!!

Kelly Brigid ♡ I definitely think you should read the book, especially if you enjoyed the movie, because I think almost everyone who's read the book and seen the movie will agree that the book is better. The movie was good (a lot of people actually didn't like it :O), but the book is AMAZING! Like most book-movie adaptions, the book has much more information than the movie does. It's definitely worth the read. ;)

Megan Liau i think you should read it too. I like...no...i love the movie!!Because i love it, i read the book. The book actually turn out to be slightly different from what you see from the movie. i feel like movie didn't cover some of the plot (major plot...i think). i don't know how will the next movie to cover that.

Okay, thank you!!! I'll probably be picking up a copy on my next trip to the bookstore. I didn't want a repeat of the last time I picked up a so called "must read" and be totally disappointed. And you're totally right, the book is usually better than the movie! :)

Kelly Brigid ♡ What was the "must read" book you read? :)

Urvashi No. No, and again no. I am one of those people who LOVES dystopian novels. I was pretty excited for this book since it had a high rating but honestly all it did was disappoint. The characters are so one dimensional that you cannot relate to them in any possible way. The plot was relatively good but it was spoiled by the entire "withholding any and every important information". Aside from all the criticism, the story moves at a good pace and if you're looking to just kill time then go for it I guess.

Emma Absolutely worth the read. The lack of knowledge and information Thomas/we are given only makes the book more exciting. There are a lot of different and awesome characters, easy for you to pick a favorite! I was constantly guessing and dying to find out what came next. This is my favorite book and my favorite YA Dystopian trilogy, but I must warn you it is written in 3rd person POV and I know that puts some people off, but if that's the case than you're crazy to let something like that stop you from going on this amazing journey :)

Emmanuel @Noal I would say what the rest guys are saying.... The book is awesome.

the book was supposed to prepare us for the Movie, i would say if you watch the Movie, why do you need to read the book, just Skip to The other series Instead "The Scorch Trial".

Read the Scorch and prepare for the Movie Next Year(september 2015).

if you have watched the Movie, good 4 you,Some of us have not, now you have the privilege to read the Second book, then the Third and the forth.

I am Not saying " Noal don't read the maze Runner book" You can if you want to.... Up 2 you"

All i am saying is that "Noal Why read the book when you have watched the Movie"

Its your choice.

Emma No Emmanuel. You need to read the first book before you read the others. It would be silly not to, because the movie doesn't explain everything, and it's very different from the book. You can't just not read it.

Plus, she may think the book is better.

Emmanuel Okay Emma, I think you are right.... Its because i have not watched the movie.

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of 3rd style writing, but I won't let that stop me. :)

Rachel The Maze Runner is defiantly an entertaining book. It's not deep or anything new, but it has enough action in it that makes it a page turner (it took me three sittings to finish the whole trilogy). The best thing about the book, for me, were the characters; I just had this connection to Minho and Newt. However, the abundance of plot holes and unanswered questions was a big turn off. They are not good stand alone books.

message 30: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma That's why they're not stand alone books.

Izzy Yes. Read the Maze Runner. It is an amazing dystopian.

Rachel Emma wrote: "That's why they're not stand alone books."

I know, I'm just saying that each book is not a satisfying story on its own. You have to read all three books to finally be satisfied. If that makes sense...I'm not good at explaining things.

I see what you're saying. All the books leave inconclusive cliffhangers and unanswered questions in the ending of the books, so you're saying that you should read the whole trilogy in order to get a satisfying sense of closure, right?

Yeah, that's a good way to word it. An example is the first Hunger Games, I thought the first one was a satisfying stand alone. It tied up nicely; leaving some questions unanswered to have me intrigued to read the second one, but not enough to make me frustrated and throw the book at the wall.

Not saying the Maze Runner is a bad trilogy, but I have been noticing books becoming trilogies/series, that could have easily been one book, a bigger better stand alone. It seems, that they would rather have three books with awkward, choppy endings, than longer epic adventures.

Emmanuel My Teacher just told us to write a book review, she said we should choose a book out of the books we have read, then i thought then made a Choice, then i chose (THE MAZE RUNNER), So awesome.

Then she gave us an Outline to write about. Example
1) How the book different from other books.
2) We should talk about the author (if relevant)
3) Some idea of plo of the story+Character - No spoiler
4) Who would like this book
5) How is this book unique? How is it similar to other books?.
6) Discuss style, eg Words used and you may want to give some quotations to show how this book is written.

NOW

Since we guys are talking about THE MAZE RUNNER, can you help me gather some Informations of what you think about the Maze Runner and what i can use for my book review.

I trust you guys, Please, Need help.

shay Okay... I was like you too. I didn't really want to spend money on The Maze Runner because I was scared it was gonna suck. So, I borrowed it in the library and I finished, and I think you should read it. The book made me feel confused and wanted to learn more about the backstory, which made it a real page-turner for me.

But, I thought the first book was great, but I am not going near The Scorch Trials or The Death Cure because people die and we meet new characters, but I was just really comfortable with ONLY the orginal characters (Gladers). But, if you liked The Maze Runner, then go ahead and give it a shot. I won't stop ya.

Wait. You don't want to read the other books in the trilogy, because you don't want to meet new characters and don't want people to die? What?!? Why wouldn't you want to? That's like saying you only watch the first half of a movie, because you don't want to see how it ends. You haven't even read The Scorch Trials or The Death Cure. You might even like it better than The Maze Runner!

shay I did read HALF of The Scorch Trials and I thought that Brenda was really clingy to Thomas at first. But, I still love The Maze Runner series to death. I'm serious. But, I just can't stand reading one of my most favorite characters die because when I read books (only the interesting books), it feels like it comes to life for me. And I don't want my strong imagination to imagine you-know-who die.

I still agree though, Kelly. Maybe I should give The Scorch Trials a shot.

Give it a shot. There are two possibilities as to who this character is you don't want to see die... Idk if this is going to be a spoiler but it's either T or N. Which ever one, when I think of the Maze Runner I always think of N as still being alive. Like Mockingjay, whenever I read/watch the hunger games, it's like Finnick, Cinna and Prim aren't dead until I get up to that bit. Especially Finnick. He's still alive to me, same as N. Who was one of my favorite characters in this series. But the sad reality is that they ARE dead, and you're just going to have to accept that. Although I'll admit, I am still not over N's death. I will never get over it.

I read this book after seeing the movie, because I thought the book would have some more information about what was going on with WICKED's weird experiments. I was left with questions after the movie ended..

I've read The Maze Runner and Scorch Trials so far, and I would say: If you're looking for clear answers, then no - don't read the books; they won't give you clear answers. But if you have the possibility to read the book then why not try it out and see what you think. Part 3 wont' have any clear answers either (I've seen some reviews and am not going to waste my time reading part 3).

And - I don't really enjoy the narration style (3rd person, past-tense; it's all 'he said, she said' -style which can get boring to read at times). I'm not feeling any sorrow about the characters because I didn't really experience them as colourful personalities or even that multidimensional. Maybe this sounds mean to all Maze Runner fans, it's just my opinion ;)
