Grandmother wrote well received book of stories but main character (girl) has never met grandmother of read book because it appears to be systematically removed from the world. Girl's mother moved them to a new town every time weird things began to happen. Girl notices she is being followed by odd people and then her mother is taken. Girl looks for Mother and discovers (view spoiler)[ that the people following her (and herself) are characters from the world of her grandmother's book. (hide spoiler)]
