colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Mudboy was ok, but kinda sad. Backstory to a character in a series I won't read the rest of, so maybe not the best as a standalone story. 2.5 stars

Agreed! It was my favorite before it jumped.

This has been my favorite so far, but I can see how it wouldn't work as well without reading at least the first book.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I've read the first book, but wasn't enamoured of it, food reasons. Brett certainly does like his characters being abused and tragic...

message 55: by Ala (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ala | 469 comments Food reasons?

message 56: by Ala (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ala | 469 comments Unbowed: Predictable but decent. 3 Stars.

In Favour with Their Stars: (view spoiler) 4 Stars because I love that (view spoiler)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Ala wrote: "Food reasons?"

Lol

Should just be "for reasons". Stupid phonr.

Felina Food reasons is now my official response when I don’t want to explain myself.

‘Felina, why haven’t you gone to work in three days?
Food reasons.’

message 59: by Felina (last edited Jan 11, 2020 05:54AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Felina I also hate my Phonr. For food reasons.

I’m having a good time at Colleen’s expense.

message 60: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new) - rated it 2 stars

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Lol.

Fucking hell. I can't type on phones worth shit. *sigh*

Felina Your typos make me happy. So, don’t stop.

Felina I’m half way through Martyr and while I don’t really understand the references because I haven’t read the Carey novels, I’m kind of digging the writing style. I’ll have to check those out.

message 63: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Felina does love those typos.

Felina I do.

And now I don’t know of Chris’s comment is sarcastic so I’ve been pouring over my comments for typos.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Felina wrote: "I do.

Missed one. :P

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Actually two.

Felina Ehh. I’m a hypocrite and a lazy one at that. I gave up quickly.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) LOL

message 69: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I found one of them..

Wasn't being sarcastic. I actually had to hunt for that after Becky said something.

Felina Well Bud Boy was a downer.

Damnit, I'm late. I was gonna make the food reasons jokes. I set it up and everything.

Ala | 469 comments Does anyone else feel like this book is never going to end? I keep forcing myself back to it, like a job, and it's sorta taking the fun out of it.

I only have 5 stories left. But it feels like each one is the size of TWoK.

And I just don't wanna...

Felina Boom! Felina is a joke stealer.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Chris wrote: "I found one of them..

Of is one, and pouring is the other. Should be "poring".

Sincerely,
I'll see myself out.

Yes, "of" was the one I found eventually. I pondered "pouring" but wasn't sure.

Yes! My other two current reads (view spoiler) are 1000% more interesting too, so that is part of it. I'm disappointed with this, as there are a lot of authors I really like but the stories just aren't doing it for me.

Except for Bud Boy.

Yessssssss

And I have way more than 5 stories left...

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Felina wrote: "Well Bud Boy was a downer."

Is there actually a story called Bud Boy, or are we talking Mudboy?

Felina It was renamed bud boy.

Felina And I am officially never proof reading my posts again.

You’re welcome.

Felina Absolutes was interesting though I’m admittedly not in the mood for it.

I’m actually not in the mood for any of these stories but I’m reading this so I can hang out with you fine people.

Felina Big Teeth - Weird. Baseball is boring to watch and now I know it’s boring to read about. (view spoiler)

Felina Keeper of memory I dug. I may have to look into this Todd Lockwood.

message 84: by Ala (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ala | 469 comments Bud Boy sounds like it'd be a more interesting story than Mud Boy was.

Felina Ha ha

message 86: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new) - rated it 2 stars

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Broken Absolutes - i liked the idea if magical music and resonance and stuff, but I felt like the story was never gonna end. Was a bit surprised at the end - kinda liked the musical lesson as metaphor for life thing.

3.5 stars for the idea, but 2 for execution.

Felina I agree. It was a really interesting idea but kinda of wasted.

Keeper of Memory: Dragons, yay. I kinda dug it, I guess? The twist was twisty enough? I wouldn't be averse to an entire novel built around this idea, maybe. But still... kinda meh? 2.5 Stars, I suppose.

Perfect review for this story. Exactly the head scratching reaction I had

message 89: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Heaven in a Wild Flower - I didn't hate it as much as Ala did, but it was messed up. Like (view spoiler)

Felina I thought it was kind of pretty. But yeah, messed up.

Felina Select Mode - I don’t remember this one at all. I’m audioing and I must have been thinking about something.

Michael Stein - I kind of enjoy a cat yarn. Get it.

Strange Rain - while all the characters were unlikable, I was interested in hearing more about this.

message 92: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new) - rated it 2 stars

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Coach with Teeth what in the fuck did I just read? Did that actually happen? Did he get hit in the head? What in the what.

Felina Yeah, weird twist ending.

message 94: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Dogs - that was decent, creepy

message 95: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Chapel Perilous - that was OK. Haven't read any Iron Druid, so not sure if it's something I'd be interested in.

Select Mode - it was short, which is good. And, I've read the Broken Empire trilogy, so got more out of this than most will.

message 96: by Chris , cookie guilt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Michael Stein - another good, short one.

Felina Dogs gave me the creeps. I’m not a big fan of dogs anyway. Oddly, cats are supposed to be the most effective hunter in all of nature and, aside from big cats, they don’t concern me at all.

Ditto. I was invested in the Keepers and the history of this place I knew nothing about, and the twist was pretty cool. I had thought, at one point that (view spoiler)

This is my new fave of the lot, so far, putting Game of Chance second.

That makes some sense, at least. Still not a fan, though.

Also agree with Felina - reading a play-by-play thing about baseball is boring.
