Hmmmm I just read and re read that thread trying to bring up any memories and It MIGHT be the same book, all the details they bring up (the rats and names) are very specific and memory of the book is more vague. So maybe, the only thing that sound familiar is the way the user describes the trees. I didn't mention this in my post because I'm not sure if it's true or something I've made up in the years since, but the book might also have a "learn to count" trait. Dont hold me to that though it is a very thin guess. Keep in mind it is very much so for kids.

I’m glad I could help. Happy reading and happy holidays!
I don't know how old i was when i read it, as i was very young, but it could be anywhere from (2005-2010)
I remember very vaguely a picture book i read, it had this scientist looking character that you kind of traveled with through history, it was a "similar to earth" type of deal with animals that looked close to our own just renamed. I remember it had a distinctive message about pollution/human impact. Every page had different animals and i think the idea was that the pictures started out with tons of animals and nature and then slowly turned into huge cities with no animals to be seen. It had a very strange impact on me as a child for some reason.
I remember on one page the humans lived in buildings that almost resembled water towers, very skinny base with a bloated top.
On another i remember animals that looked almost identical to gazelles, i think they were blue and ran in herds.
I think on the last page the last "bit of nature" was a plant that the scientist character had.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
