Jen Hi..

I'm just finishing my way through the Sookie Stackhouse novels, have already read Twilight and am looking for something along the same line to start up next.

I found these on Amazon but reviews were mixed and unhelpful. And the plot synopsis sounded weird and not romance at all!

Can anyone who has enjoyed both Sookie & Twilight recommend these at all?

Thanks!

Alexandra I haven't read the Sookie series but have watched season 1 and 2 of true blood and have read twilight, i can recommend the series of the black dagger brotherhood. Im onto book 4 and so far they have been quite good but completely different to twilight obviously being an adult series. There is some romance in this book but also plenty of other things to keep you interested including different characters pov and lots of action . This book was good to read, not too long and continually held my attention. : )

Jen I think i'm going to have to give it a go... reviews on here seem pretty positive!
Thanks very much!

Elayne this series is one of the most enjoyable I have ever read, loads of passion, emotion, action and very sexy guys (vampires)

Krista This series is AMAZING!
I love all the brothers;)
This series is a must read!!!!!!! lol

Kimberlyn Awesome series. Don't wait, start reading now. I am about to start the most current publication in the series so far. What can I say, if you love vampires, you will love BDB.

Krista Yea Ive been having some bad brother withdrawls lol!
I finished Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward 3 days after it came out lol!!

I cant wait for the next one im dying!!

Lindsay I also went back and forth on whether or not to read the series and I finally decided to pick it up last summer. I was instantly hooked and obsessed with getting my hands on all of the books. It is definitely a series to read.

Sylvia Ryan This is a great book, a good series. There was one in there that I didn't like as much as the others...I think it was Lover Enshrined.

Krista my Faves are Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward and Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward I love Vishous and Zsadist:)

Sylvia Ryan OMG, Lover awakened was my favorite. I would love to get my hands on Zsadist, scar or no scar!

Krista yup my thoughts exactly lol

Susie Love Z the best, also. And then Rhev and V.

Krista Vishous and Zsadist are both my number 1 I cant choose lol

message 15: by Lea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lea The only problem with reading this series is that J.R.Ward has ruined all other vampire reading by creating a world so realistic, emotional full and brilliant(and yummy), that I now have a standard to hold all other series to!
I also begun reading this series last summer and read the latest publication days after its release, book 1 Dark lover is known to me as my migraine book, I just couldn't put it down and so read for 12 hours straight and made myself ill..... really worth it though!

Caleb Excellent series! I am partial to Vishous, but all of the brothers are wonderful. It's worth the read and the lessers are really wretched, just like the bad guys should be. Happy reading!

message 17: by Jess (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jess The first 3 books are the AMAZING !!
Book 4 is pretty good to
Book 5 sucks - you will want to throw it at a wall
Book 6 sucks worse then book 5 (which didnt seem possible)
Book 7 better but no where near as good as first 4
Book 8 pretty lame in some parts but better then 5 & 6

I was a die hard fan (I travelled from Australia to USA to go to a book conference she was at)

I know that some might think me overly harsh but this is my opinion and I think there is alot like me that feel let down especially with Vs and Phurys books.

My best bet is to read the series. But be prepared to either like or hate her later books :O)

Krista OMG Vishous book was my favorite! I cant believe you felt left down! Phury's wasnt my favorite tho!

message 19: by Jess (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jess I cannot understand or even like what she did with Jane...then to make matters worse in the next book the scribe virgin basically throws in her towel and gives up - telling Phury that they can start ruling their own fates etc

My question is why couldnt the SV have thrown the towel in one book earlier ??? She put her son through so much by leaving him with bloodletter - I think the SV could of come up with a better idea (I believe JRW should have been more imaginative)

JRW has said that she had alot of trouble writing V and I can so tell. I actually liked V in paines book but I felt like it was an issue that could of been dealt way back in book 5.

Katherine Parker my friend Elayne introduced me to this series and i cant thank her enough i just wish i could read faster and have more hours in the day to be able to read woo hoo

your welcome Kathy, I love to pass on news about great reads!! ps..hope you got the other goodies that were being sent x

Sarah I also started out with Twilight and Sookie. And I agree with Lea above that the Black Dagger Brotherhood will create a new standard for the Vamp Lit genre. This is a great series. If you are specifically interested in vampires and paranormal romance, check out vampirebookclub.net. There you will find TONS of recommendations for new and exciting series. Enjoy!!

Melitsa The BDB Series is one of the most addictive of the Vamp Romance genre that I've come across so far. It's hot, it has depth and the dialogue is great. I started my vamp fascination with Anne Rice, moved on to the sookieverse and the like but this series is by far the best.

Susan The BDB series is great. There is romance, danger and suspense waiting to be discovered in each of J R Ward's BDB series.

Trust me, Twilight and the Sookie Stackhouse series don't even compare to this series. This series is hands down one of (if not THE) best paranormal romance series out there. I highly recommend it.

Charanya Lea wrote: "The only problem with reading this series is that J.R.Ward has ruined all other vampire reading by creating a world so realistic, emotional full and brilliant(and yummy), that I now have a standard..."

totally agree with you, the author has spoiled me for other paranormal books. My favorite is book 2. book 6 & 7 is not that good. But its totally worth reading this book.

Kimberlyn @ Jess. I agree, I didn't really like what she did with Jane either. I wanted her to save her but not the way she did.

I loved the BDB books. All the brothers are hot.... Some books are better than others but they are not even remotely like Sookie or Twilight.

Rhage, Zsadist and Rhevenge were my favorites.

Buffy Dhristi wrote: "Lea wrote: "The only problem with reading this series is that J.R.Ward has ruined all other vampire reading by creating a world so realistic, emotional full and brilliant(and yummy), that I now hav..."

I had a problem with Book 6, since Phury is my least favourite brother and I have always found him sort of boring. And yes, I'm not particularly happy with what was done to Jane, not for Jane, but for Vishous. I feel that he's already gone through enough. However, it all works out fine in the end. You have to remember that Jane was a human. A healthy human. She couldn't do with her what she did with Mary, so something had to be done so they could be together.

I still highly recommend this series.

Autumn I cannot recommend it more highly!! It's smart, dark and sexy... I still want to be the filling in a Wrath/Zsadist sandwich. ;)

Elayne Don't be greedy! haha I'd be happy with one of them! ;P

message 32: by C.D. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.D. Hussey This is one of my favorites series too. I haven't been as into the last several books as I was the first four (Zsadist is, by far, my favorite brother and my fav book), but it's definitely a must read series.

Elayne I'm waiting to read Father Mine (think thats right), also about Zsadist!!

I really loved the Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine. Another great series is the Cin Craven series by Jenna Maclaine, and lastly but not least, the Dark Days series by Jocelynn Drake is absolutely fantastic.

I totally agree with you! Zsadist was my favorite book and he is my favorite brother.

I like Payne and Manny, but I felt like their book focused a lot on Vishous and Jane, and I wanted more of Payne and Manny. Vishous gets on my nerves. Same with Phury.

I felt like Payne and Manny got the short end, too. There was a lot that could have been done with their romance, but I feel like V & Jane upstaged them.

Phury's not my fav either. If he'd manned up and accepted the (word removed: spoiler) duties, I think I'd like him more.

Bridget Brooks Love, love, love this series of books...my all time favorite reads!!! The other author I absolutely love is the argeneau series by lyndsay sands. If you read either of these series you will be totally hooked!!! Fun characters, good plot and story line, and just an all around great read!!

Alice I'm not a Twilight fan but Sookie is a top 5 fave.
So although I really like the Brothers, I would recommend The Lords of the Underworld. The Lords just frikkin ROCK!

Haniccol Jess wrote: "The first 3 books are the AMAZING !!

I agree completely with this comment. Except I couldn't get past book 5. I saw them going downhill in the fourth one and then I wanted to throw book 5 at the wall. I didn't quite go that far, but I did put it back on my shelf and have been unable to pick it back up without cringing so I put it back.

Good vampire series: Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Bones is so sexy I don't even know what to do with him sometimes.

Kimberly J.R. Ward's BDB series is what got me hooked on paranormal romances! It is an amazing series, each book good and different in its own right. One thing I love about J.R. in this series is that she treats each one of her characters as if they are real for her! And it makes each book more personal and you really get that when reading them. I love the series, ALL of them. Some are better stories than others but they all are different and wonderful and each story fits the characters! I would definitely recommend reading this series!

Oh yes, Cat & Bones..Once you go dead no one's better in bed!

Johnna Absolutely love this series! Even if a particular book isnt my fave, its still part of the series and i love it! read them all as soon as they get released. Some other good ones are the night huntress series, dark days, lords of the underworld, i cld go on forever.

Jennifer Drew oh heck yeah I would recommend this series! It's EPIC beyond proportion! Vishous is my all time favorite brother :) my Black cats name is Vishous :) I have an EM Cat named Payne

Teresa I loved this book, it was recommeded to me by friends and I am just about finished book 3 so that will be the 3 of them in a fortnight so it must be good if I can blast through them that quick :-)

Christina hi,
i have read all of the black dagger brotherhood book out so far and i love them. i also read the lords of the underworld series you might want to also check them out there also very good

Jennifer Drew Kresley Cole - the Immortals after dark series is awesome as well

Holly If you love reading dark fantasy romance, this is by far the best I've read. Beats out Twilight and Sookie...There is no comparison.
JR WArd's Black Dagger Brothers are so compelling, and they seem very real. Its best to read allthe books in order, since she weaves plot and characterization around from book to book. I tried to skip one, and found I missed out on stuff when I did that. Its true, I think that some are better than others, but overall, they are just amazing. She has a way with blending mild horror with erotic romance that is unique. She also has a dark humor I love.
Her latest, Lover Unleashed pulled me in so hard, I read it in about 2 days. Vicious is my fav.

But they are all so good, you will want one of these guys for your own.

Thanks to JR Ward for her Black Dagger Universe.

Aestas Book Blog I agree - the first 4 books were amazing!!!!!!!! the very best of dark paranormal romance. and i also did enjoy the rest a lot but the series has become more paranormal urban fantasy with romance undertones as opposed to straight up romance. i have to say that i did love the first 4 books the best although i will continue to read this series for as long as Ward is willing to write them. Hot bedroom scenes, endearing characters, all her men are alpha males and the heroines are all strong, great humour - so much great interactions between the brothers... there is almost no way to love this series. oh and each book has a HEA ending which is the main reason i love them so much. i hate nothing more than an 'almost' ending.

i also have to second the Night Huntress series recommendation (author: Frost). As hot as the BDB Brothers are, Frost's Bones and his devotion to Cat will still always steal my heart forever

Lauren I have read all of the BDB books and I can tell you you will not be dissapointed! They are wonderful even the back stories are good.

Enjoy!

Hi Jen. I absolutely love this series. My first introduction to paranormal reading was Twilight. While I do like that series, the Brotherhood actually began my addiction to paranormal. Twilight is rated for teens and rightly so. But the Brothers...I must say I was not disappointed. They are worth reading more than once! The Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian is great too. Hope you enjoy them as well.
