Tabitha This series is absolutely amazing. They have a little bit of everything so when you read the synopsis it doesn't sound like romance but trust me there is. I noticed someone else recommended Lara Adrian Midnight Breed, a few others I would recommend in this style is Maggie Shayne Wings in the Night series (there are 17 I believe, maybe 18 books) and Jennifer Lyon Wing Slayer Hunter, not vampire but still really good. HOPE you ENJOY the BDB series as much as I did, I get them and finish most of them in 1 day two at the most!

Katherine Parker I'm onto book 9 and am absolutely hooked each book tells the story of one of the brothers and they are brill I've read true blood series and twilight but these books are much much better !!!! happy reading

Hi Jen! I just started the Sookie Stackhouse novels, I am only on book 2 and I am also reading the Vampire Academy (on book #5)... I absolutely loved Twilight (my fav.) but I still have yet to read the BDB series... I have books 1-8 but I just haven't read them yet... let me know how you like them!!

Michelle [Helen Geek] I haven't read Twilight and my apprehension is the YA audience. I know ...
I've read the others Sookie and BDB - I don't think it fair to compare. Very different. Sookie is good, but very light compared. Toward her later books they read like a TV episode. I like BDB, but am a little concerned about the creativity. Her angel series is very good. I also like Karen Marie Moning - Fae series.
Happy Reading!

I've read both Twilight and the Sookie books, and loved them both. I'm on the fourth book and am ejoying this series just as much. It's completely different than either of those series, a bit more violent and adult. Definitely worth checking out. Hope you enjoy them.

V Dixon To paraphrase Rhage " 'Scuse me,' Is anyone else as in love with them as I am?"

message 107: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly Thanks for the Rage mention, V .
I appreciate anything Rage said.
Where exactly is that in the book?
It reminded me of another? comment Rage made in the epilogue... Rage was saluting Beth,Wrath's shellon for her utter devotion to the Warriors.
"Scuse me, Is everyone else here in love with her?"
Taken from page 391, the epilogue of Dark Lover.
I am a huge fan of Rage.

Carly <3 the brothers! im having brother withdrawals atm! the first novel isn't the best in the series but stick with it and you will be hooked!! :)

message 112: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly I disagree! I loved Dark Lover. I loved Wrath the best of all the brothers and read it over and over.
I was sad the next book wasnt just more Beth and Wrath.
But I love the rest of them too...They all stole my heart.
I wish I could go back and read them the first time all over again. JRWard is the Queen of fantasy romance!

Michelle [Helen Geek] Holly - I agree with you. I liked 1, 2, & 3, not so 4 ... liked 5 & 8. The others were okay, but not the absolute best. Tries to appeal to many, but... to give her credit, I read them back to back. Sometimes not the most fair. May start seeing the similarities too easily.

message 114: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly Thanks for the comment,Michelle!
I find it interesting that sometimes when you are reading 1 author, you get a narrow perspective.
Then when you branch out a bit, you are able to compare author styles/plots/characterization and it changes your perspective. Widens it.
Reading a series in isolation can be limiting.
I discovered that I appreciated JR Ward's novels more after moving on to other fantasy authors who just werent as good. It gave me something to compare to.
Just my thoughts on perspective while reading 1 author.

I am lovng this series..I am gettng warm fuzzies all over from all the brothers so far I am totally ion love with Rhage (of course I am only to his book nw #2) I have been told they get better and Zsadist is the best...he is the next one in line for me to read....READ and ENJOY!!!!

I am a bit jealous, that I cant read them all over again for the first time...
Such deliciousness...

Tiffany So cheesy. Read a chapter before you commit to purchasing.

Holly Hmmm.
If you are not a fan of JR Ward, well, this thread is for fans of her books. Why dont you find a thread where you like the book?
Different strokes for different folks and all that Jazz.

Jessica Said by Sylvia "Sylvia Ryan This is a great book, a good series. There was one in there that I didn't like as much as the others...I think it was Lover Enshrined."

I'm in total agreeance. I hated Phury- he just didn't do it for me at all; perhaps my impatience for his drug problem and self pity.

Butch was my favorite of the brothers. I was recommended the series by a friend and at first was taken aback by JR Ward's style of writing but eventually flourished with it! I find them so compelling although her most recent books have disappointed me a bit. More in the plot line (in which she doesn't always give you that ending you want) than anything else.

Liz Barrons-Kattalakis-Quiakides-Tehrror My fave "brother" is JM !!!! Then Z and then V. BDB forever!!!!

I did not care for Phury's book either...it was really depressing!!!!! The rest I loved!!!!!

I totally agree I cried reading Rhages book and I have just given this series to a friend...cant wait to see her reaction!

message 124: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly Hey Marcie,
Have fun reading and be sure to post your reactions!
Its like we all get to share vicariously through the excitment a newbie feels the first time.
I always recommend these to my friends. But I choose my friends carefully, because you have to appreciate JRWard's style of humor. (and her dark themes arnt for everyone--I cant do torture scenes, for example and I read holding my fingers over my eyes)
It is a little quirky at first, but she definately grows on you. Many of the paranormal books I read, though very good, kind of make me feel as if I am biding my time until the next BDB book comes out.

Charlene Ah I am on Lover Unbound and can't seem to finish it. Is Vishous book any good and dose it get better. I seemed to have lost my interest in the the series. I have to say though I loved Wraith espesially Zhadist and Rhage's books. Butch not so much. I will try to read it again but the series seems to be going down on MY expectations. Just want to know if it will get better.

I did find Vishous's book a little tough. I loved him, but the whole ghost thing was a bit much. I didn't like 6 & 7 too much, but I loved #8. Thought 9 a dud too. Different strokes though. You have to appreciate the imagination.

message 127: by Rjsmommy (last edited Sep 28, 2011 06:37PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rjsmommy I agree that Butch's book is weak...probably more due to the pairing...can't stand Marissa or her brother Havers. She's too weak and annoying and Havers is too much of an over-protective jerk almost bordering on controlling and abusive. As I've said before the most interesting part in Butch's book is V's conflicted feelings and the interaction within the next generation coming up (John/ Qhuinn/ Blay/Lash). Muddle through it and get to V's book which I loved. Then unfortunately you get to Phury's book which is pretty much panned as the worst in the series. I would say skip that one but there is too much background info in the subplots to miss. But after that the books are sooo amazing. It is my ultimate favorite series.

I would give yourself a break and then come back to it. One thing I found I did quite a bit was to skim the parts with the Lessers. These got very repetitious to me. Up to you. There are good parts, but some of it is a stretch. I read them and am glad I did and wouldn't consider myself a patient reader - I want it NOW. Really up to you.

Holly I second that, RJsmommy! Butch's story was kind of weak, mostly due to the hard to stomach characters Marrissa and her bro Havers. I liked Butch, however he is human, and it made a difference. He is not the hot, scortching Alpha-male like the other brothers we love. I actually skipped over it at first, and then went back and read, since I noticed stuff missing. The plots are so interwoven, you miss stuff if you skip. I would say to anyone who is wondering, as RJsmommy says, just muddle through. It picks up again. I liked Phury....I know his book was not quite as intense, but still, he did a good thing. Phury is a hero in my book! Although my favs are still Wrath, Viscious,Rage, and Zadist. Although, I have to say I loved John Matthews too...hard not to.
these guys just grow on you.

message 132: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly Supporting Michelle's comment:
Take a break and skim the Lesser parts.
I read the first 2 books all through, but when I got to the third, I found that the Lesser stuff just wasnt as critical to the main story. So I did what Michelle did, I skimmed those. I am a greedy and impatient reader as well! I found that I got the main jist of the story by doing that, and it moved faster. Plus, I am kind of a wuss. I dont do torture scenes or stuff that is too dark or grisly. I think I am a bit squeemish...
I am so bad, I will read the last page of a novel to see if it has a HEA. If not, I dont read.!!
All of JR Ward's novels do, so I could read with confidence. However, I have found that they all have a weird twist at the end. I almost threw Rage and Mary's book across the room I was so mad at one point.
But it all worked out in the end, so I kept reading the series. Like, OK, I get it now,whew...

Spgmt *Paula* I thoroughly enjoyed this series, infact I loved it,I had serious withdrawal problems when I finished the last book. I have also read the twilight series and plenty of other series but this one got me hooked. I would say definately worth a read.

message 134: by Arlene (new) - rated it 5 stars

Arlene Hi Jen.
This is a great series, and you definitely want to start with Dark Lover.

Another series that's absolutely amazing is Larissa Ione's Demonica series.

I also really enjoy Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. They are sci-fi, not romance, so they're a lot more tame, but the story lines are fantastic and it's fun to watch the main character grow in confidence as the books progress. Start with Dead Witch Walking with this one.

It could be you have read too many without a break. Sometimes the mind will want a variety even with fiction. I am that way when I try to watch several weeks of a show that I have recorded. Too much of one thing and my attention span wanders.

 * Kazzy * -aka Stryker- I agree, I've read this series twice, and am gonna read them all again when the new book comes out, as it was such a while ago I read them I need to refresh my memory on all the details! They were absolutely fab thou, I love all the brothers, although Phury is a bit whiney sometimes lol!

Christina I feel in love with this series i got hooked from the first book.. each book is about a diffrent brother and they are amazing .. they keep ya on your toes its a mix of action, romance, and has a lil comedy .. i have to give it 2 thumps up.. caint wait till the next one comes out..
if any body want to just check out the first book you can read the whole thing free on www.onread.com and if you like it than buy the series like i did if not than yoy just wasted a lil time no $ ... but like i said before i give it a A++

Hi jen! I have read the Twilight & Sookie series as well as The Black Dagger Brotherhood series and the BDB by far is my FAV. series! The romance/sex is HOT and the fights are BAD AS*

Spgmt *Paula* Totally agree with TJ !! The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series was amazing I loved it and just could not put them down. I also totally enjoyed Lords Of The Underworld Series by Gena Showalter, I bought the bundle and did not regret it, they are worth checking out. Enjoy x

Spgmt *Paula* Oh I have heard of the Dark Hunter Series but have not read any of them will check them out.

Rjsmommy Yep, the Lords are an excellent and BDB is an awesome series. If you love these two, Dark Hunters will become another favorite. The characters are written similarly; tough, lethal, angst filled, gorgeous men who need to find their soul mates but don't realize it and most of the time try to reject what's best for them! Just finished the latest Lords..Defeat's book...wasn't one of the strongest entries but still loved it.

I'm going to try Lords next... looking forward to them :)

I agree...Retribution was just plain awful! It shouldn't even be called Dark Hunters. Her next novel coming out in November "The Guardian", a Dream Hunter novel, at least seems to be back on track. I previewed the first four chapters at "Heroes and Heartbreakers" and it looks good. But I have to agree, I want my old Dark Hunters back! I want more of the DH mytholkgy not Native American mythology that has nothing to do with anything previously addressed. Give me Ash , Kyrian and Nick...please!!!!

Aestas Book Blog i agree about Retribution but I think it was a fluke. the native american stuff means alot to kenyon as she has stated in interviews so i think she might have just needed to get it out of her system and the rest of the books will be back on track. the epilogue with Ash and tory was awesome. I have high hopes for Guardian :)
