Phury's book was one of my least favorites. I just wanted to slap him...his indecision went on way too long! I kinda liked seeing a lot of V and Jane. To me their relationship was a little unfinished and it was cool to see them finally cement everything.

I agree that it was good to read about V and Jane in the latest book, as their story did seem like it had loose ends. I think some of the reason folks dont like Vicious is because he is relentless and over the top about his possessive nature with his female.
The reason I think I love that about him is that for all of the darkness inside the guy, he can still pull great depths of love and tenderness for his beloved. And there is always a HEA. No matter how dark the stories get, the light always wins in the end. JRWard has infused her tough guy warriors with amazing capability to love, to change, and to overcome evil. And somehow, she weaves in humor.
I have reread her books, and there is so much there, I never get tired of them.

I know! I'm always amazed at her ability to use controversial characters and allow them to be "not perfect". Like with V, his story was complicated and even after the addendum in Payne's story he's still complicated. Or like when Wrath and Beth were having problems. Ward's happily ever afters don't stay in this perfect bubble forever. But I like it because you get to watch the couples grow. The only thing I haven't read yet was the companion book the "Insider's Guide". I did the teaser of Z and Bella's story that happened at the end of one of the other novels. Feel like I should pick it up for more info. Hate that now I have to wait for more...loved that I could just plow right through them!

Keep with it, it picks up again, Phurys book was my slowest one to read but I got there on book 8 now :-)

You gotta read Butch's book, you need to keep in with the story. Butch's book was one of my favourites :-)

BEST SERIES EVER!!!! I Love the Brothers! I hope you have read them. These books make Twilight look like kids play! Another FANTASTIC Series is the Night huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. I read all 7 of those in a week.

I got thru book 5....and after that it took me FOREVER to get thru Phury's book...but once I did I was right back on track. My Fave is #7 about Rhev....8 and 9 are really good as well. Don't let the hic cup of #5 ruin this series for you! Ward actually redeems the storyline of #5 within the sotry line of #9.

Do not skip Lover Revealed (Butch's book)!
I mean, if you really love this series. I actually tried that. I was thinking, "Butch is just a human, not so hot, etc." Then I found some gaps in my understanding of the next book (Lover Unbound). Lover Unbound, is a fav of mine as I love Vishous.
JR Ward has this ability to weave little threads of all her characters in a chronilogical order. She gives you pieces of what each character is doing all along. If you skip books, when she moves to a certain character, you will be a little lost. Is like real life...keeping in touch with all of the characters that live in a household. It makes it seem more real.
I am sad I have to wait until her next book.
I will probably just go back and read them all again!

Try Patricia Briggs, or one of my favorites is Karen Marie Moning. Good luck.

But dark comedy is my absolute favorite, and I have developed a fondness for her hot Vampire warriors.
If you dont love the characters, if they dont seem real to you, I could understand why her novels might seem hard to read.
I am a fan of Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series.!!!I have them all.(Her Fae series was too dark for me and lacking in the kind of romance I love.)
Still, JR Ward continues to be my favorite fantasy author, until someone better comes along.

But the Twilight universe has changed how I think about what I read. I think the explanation is complicated...This Fantasy/erotica genre isnt for everyone. I think we should be careful to judge folks by the literature they read. Or write. I think JRWard is highly intelligent, and senseable. Everyone reads for a different reason, and sometimes it is just a season in their lives. I may drop Fantasy erotica stuff after all of the Twilight movies are over, and I have gotten it out of my system. I think its safe to say I am a moody reader. Plus, I like some dark, and gritty with humor thrown in, which is totally JRWard. I have discovered that if there is something in a novel I find offensive, I just skim over it! I have to say I do find it a little shocking that I can relate to or at least sympathesize with JR WArds Warriors...Maybe its just her fine writing skills. They seem so real to me. Writing in third person makes the author and the reader get inside the male character's heads. Realistically, being inside a male vampire's head might offend some females. Its understandable. Its safer to read stories that are all human, and do not explore the dark and sexual minds of males. Not to say that females minds cant be dark and sexy...

But you are right not smart to judge other's reading styles or choices. And I really try not to. Just I think the thing that gets me is when I talk to female friends away from here or other book groups. They are all "ew a guy masturbating disgusting" or "someone cheating is such a pig." blah, blah, blah, but then get over to hearing about what women are reading and they are flipping attitudes and not minding that sort of thing at all. So that definitely boggled my mind too. And yea Ward is intelligent and sensible. Never meant to say she wasn't. Or really expected her to be a wall flower either. Just it seems like the reality of what I was hearing from one group of women and what I was reading from another set was what set things a part for me in a different way.

I was also hoping that the second book would have more of Wrath and Beth. I loved them! I would still like more. But, now that I know what to expect, how she is choosing to play out her story formulas, plots, characterization, and such, I found I developed my own style of reading them. The first time through I always read the complete book. I discovered that if I read a second time, I get more out of the book and especially if I choose to skim over some of the Lesser stuff.
I think JRWard's really skilled writing somehow gets people past the "ew" thing. But maybe that is just me. I live in a house with young guys, and so I am around the stuff they(and their friends) talk about all the time. You wouldnt believe some of the stuff I hear come out of my son's mouths when they think no one is listening! These are not the topics you would hear women typically discuss. "Please, son, I am trying to eat my dinner and I dont want to hear about the most disgusting food on the planet and how he ate that."
Also, I thought I'd mention that I dont know if you have discovered that prior to JRWard's Vampire books, she wrote some very good and sweet all human romance novels under the name Jessica Bird. Just google Jessica Bird, and you will find a website with all of her titles. I love them all. You might too!
I wish she would write more of these, but I think there was a problem with the publisher....
Of course, everyone sees things in their own way.
I am reading stuff now that I never thought in a million years I am reading. I discovereed that I like this genre and it is kind of a shock to me.
I must confess that I dont discuss the fact that I am reading fantasy/erotica to everyone I know! My sons think it is disgusting that I read Twilight fanfiction!

I really like how each book introduces a new character. Im currently reading #4 and cant wait to start #5... they're potato chip books, you cant have just one,you want them ALL!! This series definately sucks you in and has the perfect amount of action, erotica, romance and drama that most females would enjoy in a book. My favorite thus far is #3-Zhadist! Mmmmmmm yummy...:)

Side note I've been with paranormal and urban fantasy/fantasy type of books all my life. I doubt I could read too many human stories without falling asleep these days, lol.

I highly recommend these books for any who like paranormal/vampire romance books.

This is the best book series I've ever read. You must must must read them All!!!! I read them all non stop for a few months and never got tired of reading them at all. My favorite was book 8...Lover Mine. It wasn't actually the best book but it was the ultimate story we all waited for. The story lines in this series intermix with so many sub plots throughout the whole series and then eventually they lead to a main plot in subsequent books. I love the mix of vampire war and relationship. It is so well thought out!!!! I tried reading other books after this and I read them regardless but they are never as good. Pretty much have to rate on a curve after this series. I had withdrawals for awhile so is started reading it all again. I'm half way through the series again and it is every bit as good this time as the first!!!! ---Cheers, Po-Po!

I never get tired of them...
For those of you who love Zadist, have you read the short novella, "Father Mine"? It is featured inside JR Ward's book,An Insiders Guide, or you can get it on Amazon, for Kindle.
It is very, very good. A must read. I loved Zadist before, but this made him love him even more.

I agree. He was so bad. But when you find out why...
So awful. I think seeing the badness change slowly into something else is kind of amazing. By the time Bella comes into the picture, he wants to be better, but he dosent believe its possible. I think the progress he makes once Bella comes into his life is just endearing. Its slow and painful, as any healing would be...I found it believeable. In a fantasy sort of way.

My fav couple in this series is a tie between Wrath and Beth and Viscious and Jane. Although I really liked the sweet and sad romance between Rhage and Mary. I guess Wrath and Beth's story was my favorite. It pulled me into this series completely.
If you've read all of JR Ward's BDB books and you feel like your jonesing for some hot vampires, read Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. Not quite as good as JR Ward, but still very good!

Samantha I TOTALLY agree with you, I love both of these series...you should try Lara Wright's "Eternal" series (or maybe you already have).
