Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Voting is CLOSED
VOTE HERE / Live results in spreadsheet

For the past few years we've gone through a process of voting for and scheduling past reads from the group bookshelf and reading them as a side group. This is intended to work in conjunction with the group Read All the Books! challenge. It is not necessary to join the challenge to participate in this process.

We'll be voting and scheduling for three months at a time. We'll be scheduling two reads per month based on member votes.

1. Voting will take place in
-> November for January-March
-> February for April-June
-> May for July-September
-> August for October-December
2. Schedule will be posted by the end of the voting month
3. Books that have been read by the group (main or reread) in the 24 months prior to the scheduled period will not be eligible, and will not be listed on the form

The only thing you'll need is a gmail login. You'll be able to change and update your votes at any point during the voting process. Books will be listed as title, author, page count.

For all books on the group shelf, see the links at the bottom of Current Events.

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Welcome to another year of rereads!

message 4: by Bobby (new)

Bobby | 869 comments I just want to get email updates so I'm posting here. To make it relevant I'll just say that I'm planning to read The Goblin Emperor in January, as I got it on sale a while back.

Ethelinda Webb (ethelindawebb) | 20 comments Looking forward to Nine Princes in Amber!

message 6: by Gabi (last edited Dec 26, 2019 05:50AM) (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments I bought an omnibus of the Nine Princes in Amber series for this re-read - only to now find out that I already owned part of the books @#$%! No more new buys for me till I get a decent overview what's on my shelves ... ^^'

message 7: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) Me too, I have even started the 'Sqwandyr' challenge on Habitica which is setting up a limit on book buying budget because I really need to stop getting new books. Last year it was a draw for me, I read as many book as I bought, but this year I really have to step up on this and buy as little new books as possible. Only exception here will be when books I want to buy are reduced to less than 3 euro.

message 8: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Haha! People after my own heart! I run a guild on Habitica called Read Your Books and we do challenges designed to get you to read the books you already own. Last year I read 48 books that I’d owned longer than a year. Some many many years (one 20 years!). Come join us Leticia!

Gabi | 3441 comments Ha! Just saw that I can't get The Goblin Emperor on audible ... that's the second time I planned my book month under the assumption that everything is on audible ... time to look before I plan.

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I don't think Goblin Emperor would work very well on audio? There are so many similar names!

Gabi | 3441 comments Anna wrote: "I don't think Goblin Emperor would work very well on audio? There are so many similar names!"

Ah, then it's a good thing.

message 13: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments If I remember correctly, there is a glossary at the back, and it'll come in handy! :D

message 14: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments The Goblin Emperor has a names index online. I linked to it in First Impressions thread.

Lost Planet Airman | 766 comments Anna wrote: "I don't think Goblin Emperor would work very well on audio? There are so many similar names!"

See if your library system has hoopla? I just listened to TGE on audio. I found that the author gave enough context that, although I could not have said if Diazapam was Sildenifil's cousin or aunt, I could keep up with the story.

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments It's time to vote for April-June rereads! You have until February 25th.

Live results in spreadsheet. I'll post the list here, too, as always, but I'll start that in February, after the newletter has gone out and more people start to vote.

Put me down for a big SAME.

message 20: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments I join you in that sentiment 😊. It seems to satisfy a deeply instinctive craving (same goes for ticking off challenges)

message 21: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Yup. Same here. Except ticking off challenges doesn’t seem to be my forte.

lol! But then you wouldn't have had the tactile joy of clicking things! We're all about tactile joy! Book pages and clicky things and soft socks!

Dawn, what song? I now have In Your Eyes stuck in my head and can't think of any other things. Help please?

message 27: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6113 comments Pet Sematary by the Ramones - it's good ear candy

I don't want to be buried in a pet cemetery
I don't want to live my life again

Anna or I continue to break it :) But we also highly recommend telling folks what you want (besides Peter Gabriel's sledgehammer, which I assure you is not how I generally break ties!) so that accommodating buddy readers can help prioritize what we hope to read soonish.

message 34: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments This would make for a leisurely re-read time, since I've read all of them but one ^^'

message 35: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments Yeah, same, I’ve read three, dnf’ed one, and don’t want to read another, so that just leaves one for those three months ^_^

message 36: by DivaDiane (last edited Jan 31, 2020 06:41AM) (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments That is astonishing. Suddenly everyone decides they need to read UKL, huh? Well, I may reread one of them, but not all. The City and the City is on my shelf and TBR so, im happy about that one.

message 37: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
I've only read The Bear and The Nightingale of those six and own all but The Color of Magic, so I'd be happy with those being the final six.

A shame none of the longer books are in contention.

message 38: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Don't worry, things will get properly shaken up once the newsletter goes out and lots more people vote!

Which one did you DNF, Dawn?

Allison Hurd | 14221 comments Mod
Ryan (and anyone else) you should say which books you wanted most to read. Many folks will help out if they know there's an active buddy...or a really good sales pitch. :)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 2791 comments The Word for World is Forest is my only vote so far. 😳

message 42: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments Could we please keep The City & the City in the top 6? It's the only book up there that I haven't read.

message 43: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I am in favor of The City and the City staying up there too. It’s the only one Mum planning on reading that is in contention.

message 44: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments Of the books at or near the top, I am rooting for The Dispossessed and Cloud Atlas.

message 45: by CBRetriever (new)

CBRetriever | 6113 comments I want City of Bones because it's in my TBR pile but so is The Bear and the Nightingale which I have a hard time approaching for some reason (maybe because I've read some bad adaptations of Russian fairy tales?)

I want to read those two as well. City of Bones was soooo close in the last round of voting, only slipping out of the top 6 towards the end.

message 47: by Brick (new)

Brick Marlin Voted. I noticed The Left Hand of Darkness is number one in the running. If that one is chosen I'm really eager to dig into it! I've never read anything written by Ursula K. Le Guin.

message 48: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments ^^' meanwhile the first 8 books are ones I've already read.

Some folks for City & City, pretty please!

Voted for TC&tC, City of Bones and Cloud Atlas (although I'd already voted for Cloud Atlas so I'm afraid I wasn't much help!) :-)

SAAAAME XD

I've recently read all the others and don't want to re-read any of them XD
