Red Rising

Red Rising movie in the works

1. they dont cut out all the sex, rape, blood, medical surgery, torture, death and gore. In fact i'd even go as close as making it into a horror movie. A horror fantasy story would be something new and exciting.
2. they dont make it kiddy friendly (aka young-adult) because they are afraid to lose tons of money if it's above PG13
3. the actors are good, not some random kiddos who never done a movie in their lives
4. they dont skip half the book and change things because they need to fit into 120min of a movie. Just make it 3h, skip the 3D, and never skip or change anything from the original story. People HATE when the story gets changed, I dont get how Hollywood never gets it.
5. And if anyone in this movie sparkles, like in Twilight, I will freak out. You can do the golden race also without twinkly girly golden makeup (golden eyeshadow on guys is ridiculous).

hey better not edit out smoking like they do in so many other movies. Censorship really pisses me off when they turn book to movie.really the smoking? Honestly I'm not even sure I remember smoking in the book. I'll relisten to my audio book on the flight home

A horror fantasy story would be something new and exciting.I dunno very few of the rapes scenes do i feel are germane to the plot. The surgery will be montaged because of time concerns. That one lady who hated him after his lazarus resurrection will be a minor role because there's no way there will be time to do it properly.

3 hours? no. Freaking Catching Fire was a bloody long movie almost as long as the second Pirates Movie or a Transformers movie.

There are too many vital parts of this book that might get editted out. This will actually crush me. I will have to watch it if they make it. But, I will be disappointed because Hollywood screws up everything and I may have to jump on a table at one of their banquets and shout about how I've been wronged and challenge the director to a fight with razors.

Yes yes a thousand times yes.

I'm curious to see how they will turn this into a movie. I fear they'll make it PG-13 and leave out a lot of the detail about the Institute, turning a brilliant story into a cash cow. Then again, if Pierce Brown is doing the script himself, I fully trust his opinion on what should or shouldn't be in the movie.

As for the burners, yeah... you can't really take those out.
And the gore? Sure a lot of gory things happened, but I don't feel like it was the driving force in the book. Pierce didn't really describe it in detail and put a lot of emphasis on it (at least in my opinion) he was more just like 'eh, this happened' so I doubt it would be a huge deal wether it was emphasized or not in the movie. But lol. A horror movie? How graphic did you guys think this novel was? In my opinion I think that's pushing it a little :P
Anyways, I've got mixed feelings on the movie for this book, but it should be interesting to see how it turns out.

They definitely shouldn't skimp on the blood though, that's needed to contrast the lives of luxury of the pixies with the Iron Golds. Also, I want to see Darrow punch a hole in Julius's chest.

But that would change his whole character development and motivation, the reason he joined the Sons of Ares and why he hates Nero so much. It would need a whole bunch of further changes just to make sense.

Mostly though, I think it's just a really unnecessary change. I don't think there's any reason at all to alter the story like that.

I don't think that with Pierce writing the screenplay that he will change Darrow's backstory. His inspiration for writing Red Rising did not start with Darrow but rather with Eo so I can't see him leaving her out of the movie.

There's no way they're going to make this CG. Firstly, there's no need to, and it would seriously jar with the tone of the story. Secondly, the other YA trilogies have all been successful as live-action, and thirdly, that would probably take longer than live-action and not look as good.

Have you seen the new Halo trailer? I feel that this trilogy differs INCREDIBLY from the other dystopian trilogies in scale, scope, the fact that the actor has to go from 5 foot nothing to seven foot, the people have to be godly beautiful and GOLD and not look like regular humans with makeup on. Not to mention Pax? RAGNAR? C'mon, man. Hollywood actors will just muck it all up and make it not fantastical enough - in my opinion.

The trailer does look really good, but it will take a long time and a lot of money to make a movie with CG that high quality. Frozen cost $150m, which is a higher budget than a lot of action movies, even some Marvel movies, and if you want a CG Red Rising, I'm assuming you want animation better and more realistic than that.
The first Captain America movie did a similar transformation (although hopefully they don't CGI Darrow's head onto a tiny body), so its definitely doable.
To look gold all they need is a wig, come contacts and a bit of make-up. The whole point of Hollywood make-up artists is to make the main characters look beautiful. I suspect the movie will play down the golden skin a bit.
For Ragnar they could use Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson (or some of his body-builder friends) and use some forced perspective shots as well, like they did in Lord of the Rings.
As for the actors, well, that's in the hands of the gods. Hollywood is taking YA trilogies a lot more seriously now, since Hunger Games became so successful. I think that all we can do in regards to the actors is cross our fingers.

Idk bout the movie because to be good it should be rated r but it appeals to a younger audience so im not really sure. But this was such a good book that if it sucks then just cancel the whole movie all together.

So how old can the characters be and still have the movie make sense?

And no way it will be rated R lol it's a YA book. It doesn't need to be either. Yes some of the scenes are violent, but nothing pivotal that couldn't just be toned down.

What? That's the entire premise of the book... That would totally defeat the purpose to make him a true gold.

The fact that movies like Logan and Deadpool (both R rated) did well at the box office kinda gives me hope. Red Rising could totally do well as an R rated film because it would be true to the material that made the book great including the fact that the characters are so young in a harsh environment.

If the movie is within 1,000 miles of Michael Bay be ware it will turn into Darrow transforming into a bloody autobot

I do feel like a TV series similar to Voltron might do this justice because there is just so much depth to the story.

Pierce Brown is now looking at doing more of a long-form storytelling T.V. series, a la Game of Thrones. He didn't mention if he's looking at getting it on HBO or whatnot, but he did say he wanted to explore more of the world and be able to show more than you see in the books. No major character or plot point changes, per say, but wants to really delve further than a movie would allow.

Skilled fighters with super strength in low gravity? I want a blend of Daredevil and Luke Cage, and Netflix is the perfect organisation to do that while still telling a great story.

This would be amazing. I agree with the others, I regard this a good news and think it would actually work better for this universe than a movie would.

I agree! This series needs to be on pay cable TV or Netflix. It could be the next game of thrones if they stay faithful to the books.

Anyway how do you think they will do Darrow's transformation? I think it will be like what they did for Captain America. Anyway I can't wait to see this movie.
