Jen Ev Eve | 105 comments I did not actually read this book. It was ebook format so I skimmed the beginning or flipped through to see hero and heroine's first encounter. Or if not first encounter, then one of the first few. Oh and I probably read it between 2015-2018. I don't remember names or the plot summary.

The hero and heroine know or know of each other. I don't know how exactly. Maybe he's a friend of her brother. Or they know of each other because they move in the same social circles. The hero comes upon the heroine who is waiting in an alleyway. He might have had his mistress or a prostitute with him. I'm not sure about that though. And when saw the heroine he was definitely concerned/mad about the heroine waiting in the alley. Concerned for her safety I mean and that something could have happened to her.
~Either the location has nothing to do with the hero. And she's there to spy on someone or wait for someone else.
~Or the heroine is there because she knows he'll be there. And she's waiting to speak to him. Because she's desperate for help with something.

My gut is telling me the latter one is the more likely scenario. But if anyone remembers books with scenes that follow the former scenario, please share.

If the mistress or prostitute was in the scene, she was sent away. At this point the heroine tells him why she's waiting there and shares what's troubling her. And he agrees to help or says that he will consider her plea for help. He becomes flirtatious and teasing. And the scene ends with a kiss or an almost kiss. This is why I have doubts about the mistress being there because I'd hope the heroine was self-respecting and wouldn't immediately jump into his arms. But HRland is full of disappointing heroines in that respect.

I know that's not much to go on but I heard this group is amazing so I'm trying my luck

Highland Angel by Hannah Howell?

Book opens with her approaching him in an alley when he is on his way to visit his mistress.

Jen Ev Eve | 105 comments Didn't get the sense my book was a highland romance. And I just read a preview of the first chapter of Highland Angel and it's definitely not it.
Thanks for trying.

JennyJ | 30 comments Luck Be a Lady? Heroine is spying on her brother and hero comes upon her on the street. They met in a previous book and he's attracted to her. Don't think the scene involved a mistress or prostitute. Don't remember if they kissed at this point

Jen Ev Eve | 105 comments I don't think it was The Nobody.
I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Luck Be a Lady. The google books preview didn't help me much

Midniteillusion | 103 comments Sarah MacLean's Rules For Scoundrels series has a scene like this but I can't remember which books it was.

I've read the first book in that series, but it'll take me some time to look into the others

Daphne | 247 comments Something like this happens in The Last Hellion by Loretta Chase. I think it's closer to the first scenario (she's there to talk to someone else, the hero has nothing to do with it).
