My Villain Is More of A Hero Than I Am- read a book where a bad guy does something unexpectedly noble, where a bad guy shames a good guy into acting, or with a bad guy dying on the cover.

*it's not easy to google and get options

After some looking around, here are some suggestions for kicking Sportsmaster's butt...
Last year for a cloning attribute, I read a dystopian, Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang, and really enjoyed it. There is a GR List called "Clones etc" that has interesting ideas. Brave New World was pretty good, imo. Never Let Me Go was good but too sad for me. For this round, I think I may try The Minority Report as I generally like PKD.

For the second one, Huntress, I found GR lists "Tiger Shifters in Romance" with a few books that look good. Any PNR or UF books with shifters in it will have characters with claws. I think I'll try Tiger's Curse since I already own it.

For the third one, I'm going with a Harry Potter book for now but will watch out to see what others go with. :)

Tawallah | 197 comments For those looking with sci-fi with clones here is a website that gives a few options.
https://best-sci-fi-books.com/19-best...

For shifter with claws there is the Martha Wells series- The Raksura. I can vouch for The Cloud Roads.

message 57: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 607 comments For clones I really recommend House of Suns if you like SF.

message 58: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Yawn (southernstardust) | 419 comments For the second task, a book which has a character with claws will satisfy. Dragons have claws and there are several series with sentient dragons. Anne McCaffery, Naomi Novik, or Robin Hobb are examples of authors with such series.

message 59: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Yawn (southernstardust) | 419 comments For the last task, I stumbled across a list on Goodreads titled "Rooting for the Bad Guy" and was able to find several that would probably fit.

I'm thinking Sandman Slim will work as a bad guy gone good. I own it, so I'll start this June 1 and see if it works. :)

For clones, there's also Firstborn; you'll have to check the length to make sure it's long enough. Locke Lamora would probably work for a villain doing something good.

Tiger's Curse is pretty decent; I was kind of bored by The Cloud Roads. I don't think it HAS to be a shifter, but that works for getting a clawed character. Maybe any book with a cat or dog?

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 3530 comments Mod
I also liked Six Wakes and Ghost Brigades, for clones.

message 68: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 550 comments Just noticed the wording for Fire, Weird Resume, "read a story where a major character was a showgirl, or a spy". Does this mean the character has to have been a spy but isn't anymore or can we use a book where a character is still a spy?

Still a spy is fine. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Yes the extra 5 days will continue for the foreseeable future. I'll do some kind of announcement if things ever get back to "normal" enough to make me think that's fair.

Vinca Russell (vinxlady) | 1561 comments Can anyone help out with suggestions for the JSA 4th July bonus? I've got something for the second task (the reporter one) but am struggling with tasks 1 and 3:

1. Molecular Moxie- read a book with transmutation or alchemy in it, or with something being turned into something else on the cover.

3. Project M- read a book with a secret government project as part of the story or with a monster of some kind on the cover.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Any suggestions for "pointless death" that isn't too long?

And for "cemetery on the cover," does it have to be a whole cemetery, or is a gravestone enough?

Vinca Russell (vinxlady) | 1561 comments Johanne wrote: "The headquarter bonuses run through the year right? For some reason I had missed them in the updates."

Yep. You can't use a book you read before the bonus was announced but anything from that date until the end of the year is good.

message 89: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 793 comments So, for "pointless death" an almost philosophical, existential question has arisen: Do we consider zombies dead? I'm reading a book in which zombies are making other people zombies in a pretty pointless fashion, so just wondering if I can use it there.

message 90: by Shawnie (new)
