I read Where The Crawdads Sing be Delia Owens. It takes place in rural North Carolina. It was a quick read.
News of the Worldwe read this in my local book club and i heard Tom Hanks has made it into a film to be released in Dec this year also.
I read Call of the Wild for this prompt. The Call of the Wild
I also read The Great Alone, Simon the Fiddler, Light Changes Everything, and Little House In the Big Woods which would count.
I love (!!!) coming-of-age stories set in small towns, and I was really hoping to find a good one for this task. After a couple of false starts (Sadie -- too dark, Boy's Life -- is there a central plot???!), I ended up with a classic, Rocket Boys. It was everything I'd hoped for! I listened to it on audio, and the writing was so amazing that the narrator even chokes up at the final scene (as I did). Highly recommend, if you've not yet read it!
I just finished Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and wonder if it count as a set in a rural setting? It starts in Mexico city but then the protagonist takes a train to a little town and spends most of her time in a house near the little town. The town sounds mostly walk able and there is one doctor for anything more substantial you had to go to the nearest city.

For this challenge I read The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm Super enjoyable book makes me want to go live on a farm!

Ironweed by William Kennedy is a book that has been on my shelves for 20+ years, but I won't read it for this. It's set in Albany, NY. Some people would say it's not much of a city, but it is a city.
I'm hoping to read some Richard Russo like Mohawk or Nobody's Fool. These are set in a place like Russo's native Johnstown, NY. I started Empire Falls, but it's set in ME.
