Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments Managed to get a few chapters done in Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasha Ngan today, thank goodness. I’ve got a long work day tomorrow, but besides that I’d like to focus on getting more of this book read.

I finished Siddharta and Red Dragon. Red Dragon got me all freaked out and I had to just finish it. No way could I have gone to bed. Lol. This was in spite of me knowing how it ends.

I now have only House of Leaves and a few graphic novels left. I may actually complete this by 12/31.

I adore the cover art! How are you liking this so far?

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I finished The Silver Chair by C.S. Lewis and got 20 pages of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman read.

message 157: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I finished Tinfoil Butterfly just now. It was really good too! A scary story about a woman stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

I started reading Dragons of the Dwarven Depths by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. So far I'm on page 23. It's great to be visiting Krynn again. 😁🐲

So now I have finished all of my New books which is good as they are due on Thursday! Tinfoil Butterfly was the last one.

I don't have the second book in the trilogy but I have the third here so I'll have to order it from the library system. The library I went to only had the first and the third ones on the shelf.

Sarah B | 391 comments I hope you enjoy reading The Graveyard Book, Stacie! It's a great adventure story! ⚰👻⚰

Sarah B | 391 comments I finished Dragons of the Dwarven Depths. I had great fun reading this long superb story that fits in between the books of the DragonLance Chronicles.

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments I read through the rest of An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena today. Now I really gotta focus on Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasha Ngan but it’s been hard because I keep wanting to play Sims.

I’m liking it so far. I really like the world and I like the characters, but it seems too early to judge more than that yet.

Sarah B | 391 comments I started reading Christmas Caramel Murder by Joanne Fluke.

message 163: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments Well I finished the Christmas Caramel Murder and found it pretty disappointing as a murder mystery.

message 164: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I'm going to start Ararat by Christopher Golden.

At the moment I'm at 191 books. I'd like to make it to 200 by the end of the year. That would be double my reading challenge of 100 books. I joined the site in March I think so I did not have a full year here yet.

message 165: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments Made it to page 152 in Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasha Ngan . I doubt I’m going to read the sequel right after. The subject matter is heavy so I can’t read it for long periods, and I don’t want to put pressure on myself to rush through this and the sequel by the end of the year, though I’d still like to finish this one before 2020. I might pick an audiobook or something yet in between.

message 166: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments Decided to set Girls of Paper and Fire aside for now. I’m not in the right mood for it, but maybe some other time.

I’ve technically reached my goal of reading 70 books this year regardless, but maybe I’ll figure out what else I could pick up to close out the year.

Hope everyone who celebrates had a safe and happy Christmas! I've been busy busy! And will still be busy for the next week!
But I did finish listening to The Rise of Magicks (Chronicles of The One, #3) by Nora Roberts this morning.
I finished reading New Corpse In Town (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries, #1) by Lucy Quinn and started reading The Vanishing Throne (The Falconer, #2) by Elizabeth May .
I'm halfway through China Rich Girlfriend (Crazy Rich Asians, #2) by Kevin Kwan .

message 170: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments I think I’m gonna wrap things up with Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang

message 171: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman . I started it in audio (read by the author- I love his narration and the mandolin intro to the chapters!) but I hadn't charged my headphones all the way so I finished it in print when they died.

message 172: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I'm reading:

Medical Mysteries Six Deadly Cases by Diane Dincin Buchman

And

Thunder of Time by James F. David

Over the past couple of days, I finished Dream Country, American Gods, Volume 1: Shadows, Watchmen and a book not on this month's list I received for Christmas, Snow & Rose.

At this point, I have only House of Leaves left. If I get this read quickly, I might try to fulfill my last casual goal of reading more books in German. I need three more for this to complete all my concrete and loose reading goals for 2019.

message 175: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I have finished:

Medical Mysteries

And I have read 156 (of 363 pages) of:

Hark! The Herald Angels Scream .... edited by Christopher Golden. This will probably be the last Christmas book I read.

Arrival was such a crazy movie. I hope the story has more explanation. lol.

Karina | 1069 comments I finished Here's to Us by Elin Hilderbrand last night (it took me a day to read just about, I can always count on her books to be a quick read)
Just started Watchmen Watchmen by Alan Moore last night, need to finish one of my library books, this seems like a quick read and then I will move onto on more TBR book which will complete my TBR goal for 2019. I don't think I'll be able to get to the other 2 books I was hoping to read by the end of the year, but I will try!

My Overdrive hold came in early on High Achiever The Incredible True Story of One Addict's Double Life by Tiffany Jenkins and I have just enough time to listen to it this year! Started it yesterday.
I'm about 10% through The Vanishing Throne (The Falconer, #2) by Elizabeth May and I still need to read The Fallen Kingdom (The Falconer, #3) by Elizabeth May .
I read about 70 pages of China Rich Girlfriend (Crazy Rich Asians, #2) by Kevin Kwan last night so I'm on page 292 or 65% through and I still need to read Rich People Problems (Crazy Rich Asians, #3) by Kevin Kwan .

I have some NetGalley comics and a cookbook I would really love to get to this year as well. No work Sat or Sun, work Mon then 2 of my nephews are sleeping over Mon to Tues, no NYE party, then NY get-together at my parent's house on the 1st. So not a whole lot of time to read 4 books + comics. lol. But I'll try!! I've met my Goodreads goal and completed my Alphabet Challenges and my Read Your Shelves Challenge. Mainly just want to complete those 2 series in 2019! Anything else is gravy.

I ended up starting a German fantasy series. I just finished book 1, Aurafeuer.

message 182: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Read The Collectors (His Dark Materials, #0.6) by Philip Pullman . Super tiny but I haven't had time for anything else. I wasn't impressed with it so I'm glad it was from the library.

message 183: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I'm almost done with Hark! The Herald Angels Scream. I'm on page 326 or 88 percent done. I'd finish it now but I'm falling asleep. I had a very busy day and did lots of walking too. I'll finish it tomorrow morning.

Finished book 2 in this German Urban Fantasy series, Essenzstab. So far, the series is entertaining but nothing special. Mindless fun. :)

message 185: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I finished two books...

Hark! The Herald Angels Scream

And

The Hidden Beast by Christopher Pike

Plus I got to page 88 on Thunder of Time by James F David. I got sidetracked by watching a musical otherwise I would have have read more...

message 186: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments Made it to 26% in Stories of Your Life and Others. Hopefully I can finish tomorrow.

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Listened to two hours of The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis and 45 minutes of The 30 Greatest Orchestral Works by Robert Greenberg . I was gifted a bunch of Sims content for Christmas so I've fallen down that particular rabbit hole (I've got everything available now!) - and loving every minute :)

Looks like I'm on a roll. Just finished book #3, Wechselbalg. Each book in this German series is fairly short ~150 pages but I got sucked in. They all end on cliffhangers, ugh ....

I also read 70 or so pages of House of Leaves. I really want to finish that one but it's slow going. There is so much to digest on each page.

Goal-wise, I'm done with everything (including my goal to read more German books) except House of Leaves, which I had pledged to read in 2019. I also wanted to read one book out loud (must be more than a children's book). Last year I read a poetry anthology to my dogs and they loved it ;) ... I didn't get around to that yet but I did read Twas the Night Before Christmas to them and my husband on Christmas Eve. That sort of counts toward my goal ;) though it is short like a children's book.

I blazed through and finished China Rich Girlfriend (Crazy Rich Asians, #2) by Kevin Kwan yesterday and started reading Rich People Problems (Crazy Rich Asians, #3) by Kevin Kwan this morning.
I'll probably finish listening to High Achiever The Incredible True Story of One Addict's Double Life by Tiffany Jenkins today (75% through) as I've got some errands to run and work I brought home in anticipation of the storm coming tomorrow. I might be able to squeeze in one more short audiobook as well.
I'm about 50% through The Vanishing Throne (The Falconer, #2) by Elizabeth May and can't put it down!

House of Leaves is a biggun and takes time to digest! Or so I've heard. lol. I haven't read it yet but I picked it up at a book sale this year!

Sarah B | 391 comments This morning I read and finished:

Tales of the Great White by Jocelyn Heaney

And I just started reading:

God Save the Queen by Kate Locke

I'm still reading Thunder of Time too... I'm hoping to finish the Queen book today as it's short and fat.

message 192: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments I finished The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis . I've had the audio set forever, but had only listened to the first three (my favorite books in the series). I was a bit disappointed in Kenneth Branagh- I love him as an actor and director, but he was lackluster as a narrator, at least in this book.

message 193: by Shelby (new)

Shelby Suderman | 2181 comments Finished Stories of Your Life and Others and just barely watched the movie, so I think that wraps up my reading for this year.

"Snow day" today, it's a really awful icy, sleety mix so I'm working from home. And that means we won't have my nephews sleep over until Friday instead of tonight. So this afternoon and tomorrow are free to read!! Woohoo! I have to finish reading The Vanishing Throne (The Falconer, #2) by Elizabeth May and read The Fallen Kingdom (The Falconer, #3) by Elizabeth May and finish reading Rich People Problems (Crazy Rich Asians, #3) by Kevin Kwan . TOTALLY doable. lol.
I finished listening to High Achiever The Incredible True Story of One Addict's Double Life by Tiffany Jenkins this morning and am listening to The House with a Clock in Its Walls (Lewis Barnavelt, #1) by John Bellairs while working. It's only 4.5 hours long so I'll probably listen to another short audiobook as well.

Finished listening to The House with a Clock in Its Walls (Lewis Barnavelt, #1) by John Bellairs . Cute series. I'll probably continue it at some point. And see the movie.
I started listening to Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple . A little daunting to start a 9-hour audiobook with a day and a half left in the year but I have more work to do so we'll see where I get!

message 197: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I'm starting The Queen is Dead by Kate Locke. This is the second book in the trilogy. Oh the trilogy is called The Immortal Empire.

message 198: by Karina (new)

Karina | 1069 comments Just finished Watchmen Watchmen by Alan Moore all I need is to read my last TBR book, Vacationland by John Hodgman which I am hoping I will finish and if not, I will read The Little Prince and reach my Read Your Shelves goal.

message 199: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I just finished:

The Queen is Dead

and I'm going to start on the last book of the trilogy, Long Live the Queen..

I hope to reach 200 books by the end of the year. I'm almost there. I just need to read 2 more. So probably this last book in the trilogy plus a short book, maybe a novella at around 100 pages or so. So I'm feel good I'm going to make it to 200 books, which is double my Goodreads goal.

message 200: by Sarah (new)

Sarah B | 391 comments I just read:

Marvel Monsters Unleashed The Gruesome Gorgilla!

This book was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, especially since I really don't like superheroes too much..
