Mary (marissa_214) | 131 comments Hi everyone,

I read this book perhaps in the early 90's, probably 1993 at the latest. I'm pretty sure I purchased it from one of those discount book stores you find at outlet malls. It was a choose your own adventure style book, but was definitely NOT the "official" CYOA series.

This book concerned a woman who rode horses in cross country events OR possibly show jumping. She had a horse she loved (who is possibly either grey or palomino) and I know one of the choices you make is while you are approaching one of the jumps you have to decide whether to take the jump or not. If you do, one outcome is that both the horse's front legs are broken and he has to be put down. :-( There may be some mystery concerning the quality of the jump, like maybe it was tampered with.

Anyway, this is definitely not Showdown.

I think this was aimed at a YA or adult audience. I don't remember much about the cover but probably has a horse on it, haha.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments There were some spin-off series, and if you're not 100% positive it's not CYOA, check this list:

Hmm, how about _Star Rider_?

Yeah, I'm positive it was not CYOA because I read a lot of those that my brother had, so I know I'd remember if I bought one of my own.

I think Star Rider might be it! I'm impressed...I searched that website myself, but that book did not come up in a keyword search for "horse", "jumping", or "riding". (Should have tried rider!) However, searching for "riding" gets you examples of a genre I did not know existed within the gamebook structure!

I'm ordering a copy to check if this is the one!

I see now that I should have used a google search of that site...a google search of "gamebooks.org horse" brought it up quickly!

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments If you think there's a good chance that this is your book, you can put this request in the "Possibly Solved" folder, by clicking the 'edit' link next to the subject line / title.

If you do find the book you're looking for, come back and tell us (I like to edit my requests to show the title and author at the top of the original post, so it shows up in google results easily). We keep the old requests, so new people who're using a search function can easily find the same book. We move those to one of the "Solved" folders, the same way as above.

If this wasn't your book, or you want more suggestions - you can put this query back into the "Unsolved" folder at any time, and bump it (no more than one a month) to put it back to the head of the queue.

Hope you find what you're looking for :D

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments And heh, for the genre you didn't know about.

Me either, until yesterday :D But, it appears nobody really likes any of the books that I saw in that genre? I wonder why that is?

Mary (marissa_214) | 131 comments Oh, good to know...I knew about editing once it's solved, but did not know about the possibly solved category. I'd better do that since it will take several weeks for the book to arrive.

Thanks again!
