Haha, you beat me to this thread, Rachel.
I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of it. And of its sequels too.

Dive in Stacie! What surprised me about the series is that it really isn't about zombies. It is much more about the role of media and human behaviour.

Sumit, you know it ;)
Perhaps it will gears to finally read the last book. :)

Hmmm. Then I may pick it up!

I started it last night, and I've finished 'Book I' AKA the first 5 chapters. It's just the kind of zombie book that I like, focusing on the people and social structure v. a survivalist, paramilitary type perspective.
My thoughts: (view spoiler)

(view spoiler)

Good to know - I'll have to reset my zombie expectations!

Anyway, I tend to like this kind of zombie book. If you like the interpersonal relationship oriented with some zombie fights book more than the soldiers and gore, I can recommend a couple of my faves.

I loved the book and the style totally caught my attention. It is a different type of zombie book. There are a few parts I don't like, (view spoiler)

I like George. It's Shaun that I don't like. I've never been a fan of the people that think they only risk themselves when they do dangerous things. Maybe in the book it's not quite as bad, but IRL the people that have to rescue them are at just as great a risk or more. I resent that, and I'm laying it on Shaun.

I need to read the third book.

I remember trying to read this last year, but I stopped as it didn't seem fast enough for me, hope it's better the 2nd time around !

Rachel, are the rest of the books in the series as good as this one? I was very disappointed with the 2nd book in Carrie Ryan's Forest of Hands and Teeth series. The first was so good, and the next one was so bad I didn't make if halfway through.

Sumit, what do you have to say about the books?

I sooo want to read that! I know my library has it. I may go pick it up today. It looks like something I would love.

I'm struggling a bit with both of them. They both seem a weeee bit too proud of their mission and how outside of the normal they are. And for some reason, I keep picturing Shaun as a 15 year old kid when I know he's older. I think its probably just the way he acts.

Just finished chapter 6

I agree with your spoiler. (view spoiler)

Yes, totally agree with comments above about everything being so staged and having to look like they are the perfect family with the perfect parents. The parents seem to be more interested in their children's "success" - as defined by the parents... Not necessarily what the kids want to do with their lives or, heaven forbid, get to know them!
I can't get a good feel for Georgia & Shaun yet. They are both very focused on their blogs and the politics surrounding ~ and have provided a lot of good zombie info. Shaun is definitely a bit reckless.
As for the Senator, (view spoiler)

Very political. I've never really followed politics, so find it a bit hard to care about the senator and the election stuff. He does sound very perfect, but maybe he just is a really nice guy. I kind of hope so, I've read lots of books lately where the nice guy turns out to be the bad guy, so it would be a change for him to remain the good guy.

I'm in book 3 - Chapter 24, if that helps!

I feel like it's picking up a bit more now too, but I can't put my finger on what it is that seems more interesting. I'm not far behind you.

Book synopsis
The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beaten the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop.
The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED. Now, twenty years after the Rising, bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives - the dark conspiracy behind the infected.
The truth will get out, even if it kills them
