30.3 - Cat's task: Eight Tiny Reindeer!

My nephews LOVE Christmas (no really!) with the elder being able to recite vast swathes of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" (which was a regular bedtime read the whole year round, to his family's disgust!) and the younger having to recite the various events that have to happen before The Big Man will come.

So, let's think of them whilst reading for this one!

Pick a reindeer pairing and read two books, the author initials (first and last names) can be found in each of the names.

i.e. author 1 must be found in one reindeer, author 2 in the paired deer.

As the bedtime book was illustrated, one book with MPG Graphic Novel etc is allowed

I'm using the classic "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem, and modern spellings.

Pairs:
Dasher & Dancer
Prancer & Vixen
Comet & Cupid
Donner & Blitzen

For books with multiple authors only one name needs to work. The same author may be used for both books if the author's initials are found in both reindeer names.

Examples:
DASHER: Helen Dunmore
DANCER: David Eddings

won't work: Carl Sagan as the C & S are in different reindeer names

Required: State the reindeer pairing when you post.

This is covered under the Default Rules & FAQs of the Challenge:
1. If a task calls for author’s initials, what name do I use for the last initial?
While there are great variations in names, we work with the general rule that the author’s last name is the final word in the name that is preceded by a space. Spaces determine names. We realize that this may not be technically accurate in every case, but this is the default rule. Relational suffixes, such as Jr., III, etc. do not count as part of the name for SRC purposes.

Teri-K If the author has a middle initial, can that be disregarded?

Thanks!

Yes

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments I'm not sure if I can use this and need some input. I couldn't find anything specific in the rules. The book is The Amateur Astronomer by Scientific American. Obviously, the author name is a catch-all that gives credit to a group of people working for the magazine, but since they are listed as the author can it be used for DASHER?

As that's what's listed as the author of record, it will work for the initials SA.
