Walter Daniels (FBNGroup) | 52 comments For the next _four_ days, my book (Kindle format) will be half price. It's in recognition that June 26 is the _6th_ birthday of the boy I wrote it for. The title is: The Man Who Was A Santa Claus, by Walter Daniels. It's a Christian Children's/YA book.
The MC is Joe, who has resigned himself to not having any children except the daughters of a friend (the "Daughter's of his heart") and his "adopted" Granddaughter, until he answers a strange phone call. As a result, he meets Charlie, and her mother Tory. That results in Charlie getting her dearest Christmas wish, and *believing* in Santa Claus. As do a number of other children that Joe meets over the next Thirty Years.
When Joe agrees to be a "Santa Claus," he has no idea how many lives will be changed, including his own.
The story was written to help my friend's young son, believe, in site of all the "Santa Claus'" out there.
So he would know that he might, if he's lucky, meet a real one. The Kindle version is on sale through June 28, 2015.
I would prefer to sell them at full price, but they are on sale until 6/28. If you like it please post a review, to help (I hope) sales. 10% of profits go to buy and send free copies to Children's Hospitals in Continental U.S. (About 125 to send 8 free copies.)

James Faro (jamesfaro) | 7 comments The Assiduous Quest of Tobias Hopkins, is the first volume in the Tobias Hopkins series
(4.92 rating on Goodreads!)

The Assiduous Quest of Tobias Hopkins The Complete Novel by James Faro

I would be delighted if anyone would like to review this book. I can send a pdf copy for review.

Brief Synopsis:
It is October in the year 1675. New England trader, Tobias Hopkins, arrives in Jamaica to discover the truth about his missing father. It transpires that, not only has the man been dead for six years, but he has left Toby with a half-brother and the clue to an inheritance which promises to change the course of their lives. However, Toby's inquiries have attracted the attention of others who will stop at nothing to achieve their aims. Will the cryptic message written by his father lead him to a promised fortune, or will it lead him into the hands of those who aim to destroy him?
Haunted by nightmares from his past, Toby continues with his quest. But who can he trust? His faithful associate, John? the astute businesswoman Elizabeth? or Magdalena, mother of his half-brother Eduardo? Some of those around him are not what they seem to be, and it soon becomes clear that Toby and those closest to him are in imminent danger.
His quest leads him to the Island of Nevis where he reaps the fruits of his search. All appears well until he travels to Virginia. It is only at this point that Tobias Hopkins is forced to face the consequence of his actions.

PAUL OTIENO Hello,

Hope your are fine, I have written a book that is a challenging read and I would be thrilled of any readers would volunteer to read it and give me honest (even if its brutal) feedback, I think I need to get a thick skin in the genre I've chosen to write in.

If you keen email me riken.otieno@gmail.com or PM for a free copy PDF, Epub or Mobi. The reader is under no obligation to finish the book and I certainly don't require a detailed posted review, an opinion would be sufficient.

Thank you,
Paul

Book Synopsis:

“Love and Happiness are ideals that can only be actualized if they are redefined as intellectual pursuits"

The book is an honest, thought-provoking examination of the concepts of love and happiness through the exploration of the profound influence self-perception and life-experiences have on the attainment of these beautiful human ideals. The book as its premise and carried wholeheartedly by the plot asserts the construct that love is absolute and it’s the only conduit to true human happiness.

The book openly explores mature themes that define the modern human condition, and expects of the reader an open mind as some of his or her strongly-held personal beliefs may be challenged or called into question, including that most fundamental definition of self; identity.

The book weaves an intricate interplay of relatable characters and life-experiences uncompromisingly aimed at eliciting from the reader self-examination and contemplation of a simple dual-paradigm, who Am I and Am I happy.

Hi William. Here's my opinion.

I think as a writer you're going to have to just let this one go. There's no benefit in pursuing communication with a reader who obviously doesn't care about your book as much as you do. Just know that this is something that's going to happen and there's nothing you can do about it. Everyone has an opinion and a point of view, and a favorite style of writing.

That being said, here's a few things for which you should be thankful (at least when it comes to this review):

It's not really that bad. I mean this person gave you 3 stars, and then actually bothered to tell you why.

(My biggest complaint, when it comes to reviews on Goodreads, is people dumping a 1 star on you and not giving a reason. Was this accidental? Or are you a part of some Big Box Store conspiracy to beat down the little guy.)

I've personally received some pretty bad reviews from people who have ranted on and on about how they didn't like the story or the characters or both. That's their opinion. I might not like it, but there's nothing I could say to them to change their mind. I just concentrate on the next book.

Roll with it. I don't know the exact percentages, so I'm just going to make some up which seem to have observable truth about them:

1% of the people who read your book will hate it enough to give you a one star, another 5% will give it a two, and a further 8% will give it a 3.

Hell Treasure Island, which I consider to be the best book of all time, is only netting a 3.80 on Goodreads at the moment, with 4072 1-star ratings. OUTRAGEOUS!

I hope this helps, and dissipates the bad taste in your mouth. Also see my topic and insights in a different location in this group:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Best of luck in the future.

BMB

message 143: by Ross (new)

Ross Ponderson | 4 comments Greetings everyone,

I'm providing 8 free copies of my debut novel, Child of Privilege, for reviewers.

Be forewarned that this is definitely adult content dealing with an adult subject. It can be uncomfortable for some readers. It's a no-holds-barred story that deals frankly with the heartbreak and family turmoil caused by domestic violence.

It is not for the faint of heart.

Here's the synopsis:

Dana Van Werner is riding a bus bound for nowhere.

In her pockets, she carries a bus ticket, $260, hope, her own wits, and an unbreakable will. In her memories, she carries the nightmares of frequent beatings, growing up in constant fear, physical and verbal abuse, and her father's unfathomable hatred. Dana, a 19-year-old debutante born into wealth, privilege, culture, and social standing, ponders her new world--the "real" world--for which she is laughably ill-prepared.

She doesn't know where she's going, where her next meal is coming from, or where she'll sleep tonight. She does, however, take comfort in two certainties: that the brutal beatings at the hands of her father--a psychotic, powerful attorney--are finally over; and that her decision to run away from the palatial mansion she once called home has probably saved her life.

This lovable, down-to-earth teenager (more "girl next door" than debutante) grows up quickly as she confronts intercity buses, seedy motels, wet t-shirt contests, jail cells, honky-tonks, and predatory night people. All the while, she is relentlessly pursued by private investigators hired by her revenge-obsessed father to bring her back under his control.

You'll cheer the courage, strength, and determination of this endearing heroine as she searches for a new home and a new life, and finds a gentle, caring man--a bachelor deputy sheriff--who truly loves her.

But she has no inkling of the nightmare awaiting her at the end of the road.

A dizzying chain of events is triggered by an accident that claims the life of someone Dana loves. Suspicions surrounding the tragedy--and her own anger--force the teenager to return home. Upon her arrival, a humiliating family secret kept carefully hidden for years is callously revealed. This sets the stage for the inevitable final showdown between father and daughter as long-simmering anger, resentment, and hunger for revenge finally erupt into a terrifying flashpoint.

This emotional rollercoaster will lift you to heartwarming heights, plunge you into tearful depths, and amuse you with moments of wry humor.

Join Dana Van Werner on her desperate journey. Let this Child of Privilege inspire you, uplift you, and touch you in her uniquely personal way. You just may discover a part of yourself in her.

If you're up for reviewing a book that will stay in your thoughts after you've read it, please PM me here at GR. Or, if you prefer, email me at: ross.ponderson@gmail.com

In either case, please pass along your email address so I can provide you with the Amazon gift download (MOBI format).

Could you please post your reviews on Amazon and GR?

Many thanks to everyone!

Christine Baker | 4 comments Hello,

I would appreciate honest reviews of my novel 'Open Ticket' which I self-published through Amazon Createspace last November using my pen name of Rebecca Clements. http://amzn.to/1O4iF5k

Here's a summary of the plot:

‘We’re the same, you and me,’ said Douglas, ‘we’re hard to kill off.’

Eva McKinley is faced with agonizing choices. Can she bear to accept her father-in-law Douglas’ plea for assisted suicide? But time is running out for her too. Diagnosed with a terminal illness, she struggles to decide whether to continue life with an unfaithful husband or break free to take her last chance to discover the truth about her family’s origins in Prague and why they had to flee the 1968 Prague Uprising.

Flung together with her best friend Roz who is escaping from her own complicated life, the women cope in different ways with the unwelcoming atmosphere of a Czech culture undergoing its own transformation. Their relationship comes under pressure when new people enter Eva’s life and she is faced with a tangled web of secrets and half-truths. Who can she trust? Where does she really belong?

I can give away 3 paperback copies or an e-version. Please PM me if you're interested. I'd really appreciate a review within 4 weeks, if possible.

Many thanks
