Sara Sneak peak prompt #2! Can you think of any books that share a title with a TV series or movie but that is not connected to it?

Listopia is here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

message 2: by Katy (new)

Katy M | 960 comments That was my suggestion. I feel so important. But, do I have any examples? Not off the top of my head. I think I did when I suggested it, though, so they exist.

Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut is one.

Alexa (ohmygoshhhitslexa) | 17 comments The Nightingale would work for this! 🤗
While checking when the film adaptation would come out a while ago, I saw that there was a 2018 Australian horror/thriller film with the same name.

message 4: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 903 comments This is an interesting twist on the movie/TV adaptation prompt. I went through my TBR and came up with these.

One Way by S.J. Morden / IMDB
The Wild Girl by Kate Forsythe / IMDB
Star-Crossed by Minnie Darke / IMDB
The Last Post by Renee Carlino / IMDB
The Lying Game by Ruth Ware / IMDB
Wild at Heart by KA Tucker / IMDB
Postscript by Cecelia Ahern / IMDB
The Hollow by Agatha Christie / IMDB

I'm not sure what I'll read yet, but I like the idea of watching the show/movie too so it might depend on what is available. The only one I've watched before is Star Crossed.

message 5: by Amy J. (new)

Amy J. | 74 comments Two of my new favorite fall shows are Stumptown and Emergence. Both have multiple books that seem to be unrelated.

message 6: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (zoemmaude) | 31 comments I'm thinking about Teen Titans: Raven (if you consider Teen Titans the series and not the book title) - absolutely nothing to do with the Raven we used to watch on CBBC haha https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/raven

I suppose you could choose any number of books called 'Raven' such as:
The Raven
Raven
Raven

message 7: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments If you're stumped, just search one word titles in imdb and there will probably be an obscure or terrible film with the same name!

This might be a chance for me to read Hostage.

message 8: by Soph ♡ (new)

Soph ♡ | 130 comments The Holiday by T.M. Logan
Shares a title with "The Holiday" starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law & Jack Black. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think these two are related at all?!

message 9: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 65 comments I think I'm going to do The Nanny by Gilly Macmillan, it's on my to-read list.

Oh, excellent idea.

message 11: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Weber | 270 comments I just did a quick IMDB search using some titles from my TBR and found some contenders

The Wedding Date - shares a title with the movie starring Debra Messing
Royals - like the TV show that was (is?) on E!
Tidelands - a TV show on Netflix
Prodigy - several TV shows and movies
Enchantée - if you count titles in different languages then this can match with the movie Enchanted.

No I don't think the two are related, I love that movie! The book sounds really good too.

Bingo! I was a little worried about this one, but The Friend Zone is on my TBR so yay! Thanks Maddy!

OMG I watched The Renegades!! I had completely forgotten about that show! I was so disappointed when it was cancelled (the first of many such tv cancellation disappointments). Patrick Swayze before he was big!!! He looked like a guy I knew irl and had a crush on :-)

Unfortunately, I’ve already read the book.

I like this idea a lot! It’s fun and challenging, but not TOO challenging!

Right now I’ve pencilled in The Good Girl,

with back-up possibles of
The Deep
and
The Devil You Know (thanks for pointing that movie out!!)
and
The Rose Garden

message 19: by Tania (new)

Tania | 678 comments This is a great idea.

This year I read The Third Wife by Lisa Jewell, and found that there was a movie by the same name but not based on the same story.

message 20: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments The Escape Room by Megan Goldin

Movie: Escape Room (2019) directed by Adam Robitel

This works for those not fussy about the article in the book's title.

I like the recommendation above of The Hollow by Agatha Christie.

message 22: by SarahKat (new)

SarahKat | 171 comments From my TBR I found (some of these are obscure):

The Good Girl (Jennifer Aniston movie)
The Immortalists (documentary/drama)
The Wonder (if we are ignoring the word "the"- the movie based on the book Wonder)
Acceptance (tv teen movie)
Alice (1990 Mia Farrow movie)
Our House (2018 Horror movie)
The Farm (2018 Horror movie)
The Changeling (Angelina Jolie movie)
Imaginary Friend (2012 tv movie)
The Secret (documentary)

message 23: by Anabell (new)

Anabell | 355 comments I like this one... it’s going to be fun to find a book that matches. My work is really getting in the way at the moment. I don’t have time to look for any books...

message 24: by Ariel (last edited Nov 12, 2019 04:28PM) (new)

Ariel Lingel | 9 comments I know Invisible Man by H.G. Wells has been done several times in film, however, there is a movie coming out in February by the same name but has nothing to do with the original book.

Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison is also the name of a show that ran on FOX for a few years.

message 25: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 65 comments There's also Those People by Louse Candlish.

message 26: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1301 comments Lots of short titles will work.
Something like "the Ring" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298130/...
has multiple unrelated book titles.
Nightwatch https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119791/... also several unrelated titles

message 33: by Mairéad (new)

Mairéad | 11 comments Bunheads by Sophie Flack // Tv show with Sutton Foster is the only book I own that works. I’ve owned it for ages so don’t know if it’s good...

message 34: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginabyun) | 8 comments I'm going to read Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, which seems unrelated with the 2009 documentary of the same title (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1503769/).

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments I'm not even going to look but I bet there's a lot of books called Lost :D

message 36: by Julie (last edited Nov 12, 2019 10:56AM) (new)

Julie (invisiblejulie) | 22 comments I found two on my TBR:

Year One and IMDB
Also, First: Sandra Day O'Connor and IMDB

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 109 comments Thanks for all those ideas: you're all amazing, being able to think of them so quickly! I read the prompt and couldn't think of anything, but I've already found two books from my TBR pile on the Listopia, and several others which sound interesting. I'm starting to plan now as then I can add books to my Christmas and birthday (2nd January) wish lists.

message 38: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 734 comments This is an interesting riff on the move/tv show prompt. I love that it's still doable and fun for someone like me who doesn't actually watch that many shows. I probably have hundreds of options that I'm not even aware of yet!

message 39: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Meltzer | 40 comments Sister, Sister has several options i've noticed.

message 40: by Drakeryn (new)

Drakeryn | 708 comments Today I learned that there are a lot of books (and a movie) titled The Devil You Know. I have the K.J. Parker book on my TBR but obviously any would work.

I am going to find a book I want to read and then hop on IMDB and see if there is a show with the same name that isn't related!

That makes sense - good idea!

message 44: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) I love the creativity of this prompt, but initially struggled with what options I had. Going through your suggestions I've already found a bunch on my shelf and TBR (Zero Sum Game was just added to my Christmas wish list after meeting the author at a book event and I know I have The Lying Game and The Third Wife already on my shelves)!

I just checked Amazon, and there's going to be a brand new James Patterson novel called Lost coming out in January.

message 46: by Gina ⏃ (new)

Gina ⏃ (hrmosillo) | 8 comments Liar, Liar (Jim Carrey) has several options:
Liar Liar
Liar, Liar
Liar, Liar

message 47: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments This one seems both super easy and very difficult at the same time. There are millions of TV shows and movies out there, so I'm bound to have at least one book on my TBR list that would work, but it also seems a bit weird to pick a movie/TV title that I'd never heard of before. It's easy to just go to imdb and enter in the names of books I want to read and see what comes up, but also somehow feels like cheating.

I'm glad it's a creative twist on a movie prompt though. I was really hoping not to see another straightforward book-to-movie prompt.

message 48: by Amy J. (new)
