I 've started the first chapter ( not finished yet) and yikes! What a way to start off.
Linda are you able to start today? Stacey how much did you want to read today?

I left off at Helena Oct 31, 2008- March 14, 2009

I think Barry's character would be interesting narrated.
I think I left off with the possibility of Barry having false memory syndrome.
I agree Stacey, the book so far reminded me a little of Dark Matter. Have either of you read anything else by Crouch?

I've only read Dark Matter by Crouch before this. Depending on how I like this, I may need to read more.

I almost can't stop reading, I love how this is written!!! I haven't read anything by Crouch before but I know a lot of people are raving about Dark Matter so I may have to check that out!

I really liked Dark Matter up until the very end. It got a bit strange for me. Didn't help that everyone was raving about it and saying it was better than All Our Wrong Todays when I was reading. There are similarities, but both very different. I am hoping for better with Recursion.

I actually love this. Dark Matter is moving up my list. I find the writing very intriguing even though as a non-english-native it was hard to get into the scientific lingo (Helenas first few chapters). But still I did not mind... I like the pacing!

Yes! I'll come back when I 'm finished book 1. I will say this book is very weird but definitely interesting.
How scary would it be to be Helena and realize you are a prisoner in the middle of the ocean with no help? Slade is one power hungry guy. I thought the scene with the addict was very sad.

While I liked that I had answers I am now wondering how the book is going to develop and whats going to happen??? As of right now there arent a lot of (my personal) questions left so I am guessing its building up towards something bigger.
and YES stacey I'm also sooo confused and I dont know if I should think more about it or just...... roll with it and maybe it makes sense later. its such a mind-boggling experience!!! it explains everything for it to make sense but at the same time time-traveling (or anything involving time alternating storylines) is super confusing to me if I think about it too much. Did anyone watch the Tv-Show DARK? I felt the same way.

Curious to see what happens next with Helena.

*** Side note don't read my spoilers until you are almost finished book 5***
I am enjoying it ; its a fast read though complicated in theme and plot. I have no idea how its going to end. There were some surprises for me along the way. (view spoiler)
So far my favorite part in the book is when(view spoiler)

I've been liking it less and less. Its an easy read though, so I don't mind. I think its just because I don't necessarily enjoy Science Fiction as much. The risk of it taking a turn that I just don't enjoy is always high in Sci-Fi :P But I am not done yet, and I know there has to be another BANG or something so lets see how this one ends...

What did you think of the ending Linda?
Stacey did you get further?

It has been fun but I am not sure how much more of the cycle I can take. Hoping things settle down, or at least take a turn, soon.

I agree with you Laura, (view spoiler)
This book made me think about time a lot. I still don't know that I believe some of the premise but interesting.

Synopsis
That’s what New York City cop Barry Sutton is learning as he investigates the devastating phenomenon the media has dubbed False Memory Syndrome—a mysterious affliction that drives its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived.
That's what neuroscientist Helena Smith believes. It’s why she’s dedicated her life to creating a technology that will let us preserve our most precious memories. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.
As Barry searches for the truth, he comes face-to-face with an opponent more terrifying than any disease—a force that attacks not just our minds but the very fabric of the past. And as its effects begin to unmake the world as we know it, only he and Helena, working together, will stand a chance at defeating it.
But how can they make a stand when reality itself is shifting and crumbling all around them?
