I'm looking for a children's book that I'm pretty sure is called The Green Forest. Believe me when I say that this doesn't narrow the field down at all. The book was written in the mid-twentieth century from about 1950 - 1980. It's about a group of sick orphans who are in a charity hospital basically waiting to die, until one of the kids discovers that he can teleport himself and their group to a strange green forest just by thinking about it, and that in this forest none of them are sick anymore. One of the kids was called, "Charlie Pill". I believe that the nurse chose to go with them, but none of this is spoilers because it occurs pretty early on in the book. I want to find this quite badly; if anyone has a clue, please let me know who the author is and what the title happens to be. Thank you.

The Magic Meadow by Alexander Key.It's available to read in The Internet Archive. You need to be a member to "take out" books, but membership is free; you only need to give them an email address.
