Anlu | 3 comments Edit on Dec 14, 2022: The book is Geno e il sigillo nero di Madame Crikken by Moony Witcher

I read this book around 2008~2009, it was in Chinese translation but I think it originally in Romance or Germanic languages (highly chance to be English or French) . The author is female.

The main character of this book series is a ordinary orphan black boy (according to the book cover) around 13 years old, one day he went to this magic school, the school divide students into three differ level (based on their magic skill?) The boy's classmate (high chance to be a girl) used a spell on themselves, so they "roller skated" into the school. The boy also found his older brother, but his brother then turned into a bird (either a hawk, owl or phenix) by a evil spell.

Thanks a lot to anyone who knows this book series.

I don't think the book said about his race.

Rainbowheart | 28673 comments I was curious because you described him as an "ordinary orphan black boy."

If the boy was white, maybe Wizard's Hall or Midnight for Charlie Bone?
